Greg Gianforte (MT GOP candidate)

Totally, totally disagree. Of course there are always a few outliers. But your use of such a broad brush to paint "the left wants to limit free speech and the right wants to limit free press" is as ignorant as "black people can't get ID or understand how to access the internet" in the video linked above in this thread.

The leftist "outliers" have been rioting whenever a conservative speaker has been scheduled to speak, and on the flip side the "outliers" on the right has been trying to demonized the media.

From my perspective different aspects of the first amendment have been under attack from both sides. How am I wrong?

This particular incident is causing mass liberal outrage and will cause Dems all over to go to the polls? No one will remember this by next election.

Is the reason no one will be talking about this is because they'll still be too busy talking about how Putin is still balls deep into Trump?

B'cuz I'm not sure that's a net win. :p

Oh, whether or not that's true that'll be the narrative the left will bring. That's for sure.

A man in power just assaulted another man and nothing happened. He didn't even lose the election because of it. He can use his power to keep from being prosecuted. That's why people are upset.

Yes something happened....He was charged w/a misdemeanor assault and if Gianforte is found guilty he faces a $500 fine & up to 6 months in jail.

Gianforte must appear in court by June 7th. So there is no happy ending to this matter yet.

If The investigations are still going on in 2018 with nobody being charged and no evidence presented the Dems will be in trouble. People will have tuned them out by then.

I think most people already have, they have already over played their hand

Nobody being charged?

Someone is going down harder than Jenna Jameson. It may not be trump, but someone...

Don't for a second think that the dems are going to not ride this for four years. Trump can't disprove it and the wheels have gained traction. The bus might not get far but the seed of doubt is growing roots.

The GOP lawmakers are slowly starting to distance themselves from a guy they probably thought was a bozo to begin with.

On the flip side of that, if the investigations are still going on with no charges and no evidence AND the Rs haven't gotten a tax plan or health plan passed, they are in deep trouble.

We'll see, hopefully.

Benghazi is hardly a "story" bled strictly for partisan gain.

You're kidding, right? You can't possibly be this myopic. Look, I'm not saying it wasn't smart politically (especially since it works and the dems did it too.) But you're out of touch with reality if you don't think the GOP milked and exploited those deaths for partisan gain.

Apparently you can't comprehend.

But I already knew that.

I think it's great they're trolling these twerps. Their sense of self importance is already out of whack, now they think they're headed into a combat zone every time they cover a city council meeting.

I think a 24 hour news cycle is mostly to blame for some feeling like this, but that statement is also painting with a really broad paintbrush. I think most of them want to do their job to the best of their ability, at least the handful of people I know in news media do. And it's important that they ask questions like, what is your stance on the AHCA after the CBO's report? The public needs to know that from persons they're voting for. It's not their fault that the general public is 1 part, conservative, 1 part liberal, 100 parts apathetic. It's their job to get that answer to the public. Whether you or I like that answer is irrelevant, it's their job to provide that answer for us. FAR too often voters go to the booth and simply vote R or D, with zero knowledge about the candidate, I'm not pointing fingers, I'm guilty of it as well. It's why we've had Duncan here forever. Welp...his daddy was a good man...he's got that R by his name...he's got my vote. MakeTNGreatAgain has talked numerous times about how worthless that guy is, spending waaaaay more time at home in Knoxville instead of working, for us, in DC.

The media is not the enemy. Certain members can be.
The 24 hour news cycle certainly may be. But a free and independent news media is very, very important to a truly free society.

I agree.

There are a lot of media, liberal and conservative, who are antagonistic and annoying. But that would not authorize what this guy did.

Moreover, the attitude of both the candidate and many on this board is that itvwas acceptable BECAUSE OF the perception that the reporter us "liberal."

Think about that for a second. It's ok to physically assault the reporter based on the reporter's politics.

That's simply indefensible.

I think you're extrapolating anti-liberal sentiment out of the event.

I think the Gianforte should be in jail. He laid hands, forcefully, on an agressive journalist. I don't know if he had any idea what the politics of the reporter was. I haven't read everything about this event. It does not matter. Gianforte wasn't attacked. He got violent over stupid shiest. He's not acceptable for public service.

That said, I think there are some reporters (the "you guys" OF ANY POLITICAL PERSUASION), who think they have a right to bust in on any public candidate at any time, forcing themselves ahead of other reporters to get answers to their "burning question" the answer "enquiring minds want to hear".

They force a stop to whatever the candidate was doing. They interrupt whomever he was engaged with. They shove a mic into his/her face. They demand an answer to their "burning" question before anything can proceed. What pricks!

Had he politely waited his turn or asked for some of the candidate's time when he was through, I have to believe he would have gotten his answers.

But again, Gianforte's violent reaction was and is utterly indefensable. He should have refused to engage, told the reporter "later".

He won because he ran against a fake Brokeback Mountain nudist cowboy.

Kicking, screaming and name calling because you didn't get your way..... blah blah blah blah blah blah

A word of advice. I've seen a couple of your posts now and thought I'd let you know that the forum is already at capacity with people whos only 'gift' is to point at the scoreboard.

If you think that this type of low brow mockery is going to even remotely faze the people in this forum, you're in for severe disappointment.

Keep it if you must, just prepare to be marginalized like the other Rob Schneider's of the PF's.

Good luck and enjoy your stay.

Blaming and using the "media" for this guys bad behavior is a cop out. A state's electorate just shrugged their shoulders at the violence on a reporter, at least in part because he was doing what reporters have done for well...ever.

This is a slippery slope, if politicians can strong arm and assault the media with impunity - our ability to enjoy the comforts of having a 1st Amendment are in peril.

Something tells me this guy will have his wrist slapped.

Did you wake up this morning in the mood to argue?

I already said I agreed with your post. I did add that the media doesn't do themselves any favors by being persistent and annoying...which is their job, however, a job some perform far too zealously. Politicians are people after all (contrary to those who want to promote their chosen candidate to God-King or Queen status) and do have breaking points. In the end, nothing justifies the use of force or threatening to toss a reporter off a balcony or grabbing a college student by the wrist and holding them in place. But some people's threshold for physical actions are lower than mine. It's like the old zoo analogy, you keep poking that tiger in the cage and giggling about it since it can't do anything. But eventually if that tiger finds it's way out, it will eat your ass up.

Some reporters are poking the tiger that's not in a cage and giggling about it.
