Grider and Gruden

On his resignation:

"I'm a planner and I knew two years ago that this would be my last year," Grider told our media partners at the Chattanooga Times Free Press. "Basically I just knew it's time. I know I'll miss it because it's not easy to just give up something you've been around your whole life, but I'm also tired of the non-stop grind that comes with this job."

- Vic Grider

Not sure he wants to work with Gruden.

You guys have lost it if you think a high school coach says he's tired of coaching. Yes maybe high school. Where he busted his rump to get a contract with Adidas and develop mad skills as a coach. That article also states that his offenses were very multiple. From the "I", "Power I", "Wing T", to even the "spread". The guy has spent 16 years coaching and dominating and said that he knew this was coming two years ago? Think on that. 2 years ago was after dooleys first year. I'm sorry but I love me a good conspiracy theory and if people don't have enough common sense to piece the puzzle then it's your loss. "Wherever" Gruden ends up, grider will be a coach on his staff. Not just a recruiter.

Grider said he knew this was the year 2 years ago. He's either lying or psychic I guess.

Sure, he will end up of his staff. But his important first unofficial job will be dead period prospect analyst. JG will have a shortened recruiting period. What if JG already had a list of top prospects that would come just on his name, ones that a little visit would take care of, ones that would take some serious convincing and the ones that were just not coming no matter what. How much time could that save a guy. We know that JG is very organized and efficient. He would want to spend his time wisely and this is just a masterful way to do so. He also gets to be in these kids ear when all the other coaches will not since Grider is not on a staff that doesn't exist, yet.

What a sad 24 hours for vol fans.....get snubbed by acouple coaches who werent homerun hires to begin with...now clinging to the hopes of a high school coach who stepped down from his program...and has minimal ties to JG....its time to put the coaching search on hold...wait until the dead period and bowl games are over. Everyone involved...board members, AD, cheek....need to get together, get on the same page...regroup and get their guy in January........a high school coach? come on guys

I will confirm that Grider was a source of Hargis. Got it from from a very very very reliable source. If you recall, hargis said that ONE of his sources was someone who was to be on Grudens Staff. Well, there ya go. I do beleive that Gruden will employ these local coaches in some sort of liaison postion with the High Schools, in a recruiting blitz.

What about this comment at the end of the article though: “This is a really special place to coach. Aside from the family history we have you have kids who care about football and being successful. My next plan is to be assistant principal, athletic director, coach softball and pull for the Pirates next year.”"

What do you expect the man to say? "Hell yes I'm quitting to go work with the savior Jon Gruden at UT, you heard it here first" ????

Ok rumor speculation squashed once again back to square 1

Which rumor was that... Strong Gundy Fedora... Which rumor has been squashed...TN gonna make a bigger offer to Strong.. which rumor? Every single one the Knox press has put up. Except Gruden.

Grider said at the So Pitt football banquet that he decided this "2 years ago' and he was tired of "the grind" that being a HS coach demanded. How would he ever hold up to the grind of college football?

I hope it's true that he is part of a staff with Gruden @ UT, but I don't see it happening using Grider's own words.

The more I hear the more I think about Occams Razor
"when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better."

See, heres why I believe this is connected with Gruden.

South Pittsburg is truly a powerhouse. I grew up in that area, my high school is their huge rival, and the longest standing in Tennessee.

Vic Grider has possibly one of the easiest jobs. From pee-wee up, they groom their players to understand Grider's terminology and schemes. Therefore, when they get to him, they're already used to what he does.

South Pittsburg is an EASY job for him. He doesn't have to recruit. The talent just lines right up, and he is there to take advantage of it.

So when he says he wants to get out of the grind of coaching, I just don't buy it. I realize, yes, it is a lot of work. But Grider has an easier road to winning than most HS coaches out there.

I really believe there is something to this. Plus....who goes out when their school is loaded year after year? I just don't see it at this point in time in his career.

Something is up. You don't just walk away from what you built, unless you got something REALLY good leaving for.

Actually he would be a great recruiter during the down period. He currently isn't a coach or on anyone's staff. He could just casually go around and contact players for JG to let them know he will be at TN.

I'm certain if anybody went around spreading rumors like that noone would hear of it....right? Why doesn't somebody just go find this guy Grider and ask him why he quit.

In a radio interview today, Grider said he is "burned out" and wants to spend some time with his family. When asked when he last spoke to Gruden he said it had been at the least over a year.

Dude, once again, posting a link of a roster proves nothing. Again, I'm not saying you're a liar. You could be very well telling the truth, but you seriously need to come up with a better way to back up your info. BTW, since we're posting football rosters, I had posted a few times that I played fullback for a D2 school so....here is my proof. #49

The Official Site of Seton Hill Griffins Athletics - 2011-12 Football Roster

Dude, he said his username is his last name. Therefore, if that last name is on the roster then it's more than likely him, meaning he would more than likely know his own teammates, who obvioulsy played for Grider, if they did in fact play at South Pitt.

You really think a poster is going to go through the trouble to pick out a username of a random player on the Bethel football roster of all places?

I think his proof of who he is and who these guys are is as good as any on here. How many people willingly give out their last name on message boards?

Ok, so what im getting is JOn Gruden is coming to Tennessee and a member of his high paid staff is a class a high school football coach. Sounds good to me

Gus Malzahn was coaching High School Football not too terribly long ago. Also, Art Briles was a pretty distinguished High School coach. I'm sure there are others. Stranger things have happened.

Per poster on VQ. (Long)
Hart said in his Presser that everything would play out in December. I think everything is going along his plan, and in the end he will come out of this looking like a genius.

In the movie The Sting, Paul Newman and Robert Redford played confidence men who burned the Mafia Guy played by Robert Shaw. The key to the sting was that they had to do it without the target ever knowing he was being made. I think Hart is doing just that.

If we got a splash hire, The biggest impediment to the Success of the Football program would be the academic side. Hart answers to Cheek, who in turn answers to the Faculty Senate. They hold the keys to the kingdom. I suspect Hart is orchestrating panic in the coaching search to manipulate the academics side of the campus. He knows if the turbo-donors are stressing with the hiring, they will ask what seems to be the problem!. Hart and Cheek can point their fingers at the academic powers that be. The donors will root out the problems.

The Senate has been squeezing the goose that lays the golden eggs so long they have begun to take football money for granted. Hart can point to lousy revenue streams from the Troy and Ky games as a harbinger of things to come. Hart can use the financials to show the Senate their controls over the football program are cutting into their future income.

My theory is that Hargis at the times free press has been leaked info by the Turbo-donors. They want Gruden and they tried to advance his hire, but Hart didn't want to do so until he had pressured the admin side a lot more to get them moving towards changes. I think Hargis's source was Grider. They both live in South Pittsburgh and Hargis has covered Grider for years. Grider is best friends with Gruden, they vacation together. Their wives are tight. I think he was provided documentary evidence from Grider to advance the Gruden hire.

Gruden is making well north of $400k per week on Monday Night Football. He likes the gig. He has two more shows to do. There is no reason to give that up. The recruiters have been on the trail saying, something big is on the way, keeping commits, and even prospects' interests high. I think Hart has the Gruden deal in his hip pocket and has for some time, but he can't reveal his "sting"or he has lost his leverage on the Senate. He needs for people to panic.

When Mike Grundy said no to a lateral move, followed by Strong, our fans started to pucker. The alarm was palpable.

"Oh No! We lost Gruden! "

Then it's, "Oh No! fisher is not interested!"

Then it's, "Oh No! We lost Gundy!"

Then it's,, Oh No! We lost Strong!"

Fans had thought the hard fighting Hart had lost over and over and over.

My theory is Hart wants the pretext that The solid coaching prospects don't want to come here because of the academic stuff. Hart needs the fans and boosters to be angry.

"How can all the other SEC schools get a coach and we can't? Hart wants you to think that. He wants leverage on the academic side.

Gruden is enjoying the attention. He keeps getting the attention. delay is to his advantage. The current UT staff is keeping in touch with recruits. He can come in in two weeks and be the hero to rescue the team from the smouldering ashes. Once the NFL season is over part of his staff will immediately be available. Hart will be able to get a little more money from the boosters to pay Gruden's all star assistants that he is assembling. Grider will be on staff with his buddy. Gruden's kids will be at Webb. The fans will be ecstatic. Hart's job is secure, Cheek will be out from under so much control from the Senate . And the senate will be thankful their goose is back in the golden egg business.

Flame away. This theory ties all the conflicting ends together.
