You guys are making jokes but there are idiots on this board that believe that crap. One jackass once wondered why Tennessee doesn't just hire Bill Belichik. Yes, they're that stupid.
Gruden has way to big of an ego, he feels he can do no wrong and that he has arrived as a football guru. I am sure there are formal players of his teams that have a favorable opinion on his coaching style and beliefs but I have never read them if they exist.
Saban can back his mouth up, Gruden has a coaching record of 95-81 .540 winning percentage. Saban has a 146-56-1 .722 winning percentage and has had to rebuild every team he has taken over.
He was also the only HC in the modern era to rebuild the Raiders from the ground up to be a Superbowl caliber team.
Gruden's biggest problem was QB's. He mistakenly thought he could turn average, backup level QB's into Pro Bowlers. Never happened in Tampa. Had they drafted them an Andrew Luck or RG3, he'd still be the HC for Tampa.
That was a tough division to win, with Chris Simms or Garcia as your QB. Good backups, maybe...but not starters.
Gruden started the 2002 season as the Bucs HC, after 4 years he went 4-12 so don't hand me they traded first round draft picks to get him and that was the reason he couldn't get a QB. I do not consider a record of 57-55 to be that successful when you consider his first year they went 12-4. The draft excuse is nothing more than an excuse, he had plenty of drafts to address the issue over his 7 year tenure with the Bucs.
You must be outraged at 28-34.
It doesn't sit well with me but I have reserved judging him the first 2 years because IMO he has not had a roster to compete with at this level until this season. This season will be the measuring stick and I will have no problem saying if he has shown what it takes to succeed in this conference.
