Take a look at the past 14 years of cfb coaches, nfl coaches that won NC and number of times
. Just looking at the past 14 years because that is how many years the BCS has been around standardizing who is the only nc, like the nfl

College

Nick Saban 3
Urban Meyer 2
Bobby Bowden 1
Butch Davis 1
Gene Chizik 1
Jim Tressel 1
Larry Coker 1
Les Miles 1
Mack Brown 1
Pete Carroll 1
Phillip Fulmer 1

NFL

Bill Belichick 3
Tom Coughlin 2
Bill Cowher 1
Brian Billick 1
Dick Vermeil 1
Jon Gruden 1
Mike McCarthy 1
Mike Shanahan 1
Mike Tomlin 1
Sean Payton 1
Tony Dungy 1

Same number of coaches with 3 NCs, same with 2, and same with 1.

Like you pointed out, the nfl only has 32 teams. CFB has 124. Take half of that away being non BCS schools and its still double the amount of teams in the running to win.

Sure looks like you're right G

First of all, replace Butch Davis with Bob Stoops.

Second, it sure doesn't help your point that there are multiple guys on the list of college coaches that tried to win in the NFL and failed miserably, and that includes the guy on top of the list.

When Bama gets up on a team the defense pins their ears back and get after an offense even harder which typically for Bama results in more 3 and outs which means a Leach style offense would score even more points. Saban runs a ball control offense because that is what he feels comfortable with in calling a game. If Saban had a high power offense the way he wants his team to play defense they would be more dominant because Bama don't lose games once their up 14 to 21 points.

Defense wins championships but a strong offense can sometimes make a defense even stronger.

Gotta score more points to win games. Winning games get you into championships. All comes down to scoring and that's what an offense does.

Still waiting for you to tell us just one recruit that Gruden groomed. Or even one recruit.

Just one.

Right. It's impossible for someone who wasn't a head coach in college to be a good recruiter. It really killed Pete Carroll.

theres where you again fail. I asked for a player he recruited, not was the head coach.

In 1988 Gruden was the QB coach at Southest Missouri State.

In 1989, he was the WR coach at Pacific

In 1991 he was the WR coach at Univ of Pittsburgh

There's three years in the collegiate ranks. Just name one player he recruited and coached. Just one. That's all. Preferrably someone we know.

So far you cant. Come on, prove us wrong.

Are you saying you remember guys recruited by assistant coaches at programs of that caliber in the 80's? In that case, can you give us examples of some guys Carroll recruited when he was a college assistant in the 80's?

i think gruden would entertain the idea given the roster changes, new facilities and new AD. its def not out of the picture but unlikely.

so you cant that's what you're saying? Heck, I did the leg work for you finding the years and schools he coached.

This is the guy you feel confident can bring us back into glory. I want to feel this confident so I'd like to see an example of just one player who he recruited and groomed so I too can say 'look at what he did. He can do this for UT'.

:eek:lol:

Do you realize how absurd your comments are. You remember the guys Carroll recruited at his early stops in the 80's, the guys Bob Stoops specifically recruited at Florida, and all the other guys every successful coach recruited when he was an assistant?

Well we have a guy who nobody had ever heard of prior to about 3 years ago and he's recruiting top 15 classes despite everyone knows he's nothing more than a short term hire that's unlikely to work out. I'm pretty sure someone who has actually shown an ability to win (and with far more name recognition) will be able to recruit.

But then again, since I can't name Southeast Missouri State's recruits in the 80's, I guess that means that Gruden would be unable to sign anyone. He'll probably just throw up on recruits in their living rooms due to the sheer difficulty of recruiting to Tennessee.

But the state of Tennessee doesn't have any talent!

Agreed. Recruiting kids to a school with top notch facilities, an almost unlimited recruiting budget, a 100 tradition of winning in the best conference in the land and a 100,000 seat stadium is damn near impossible.

This 32,000th edition "John Gruden for UT Coach Thread" is gaining momentum. I 'm super-stoked!!

An offense that doesn't let his defense rest and puts them back on the field 3 minutes after they came off isn't going to make it any stronger.

I'll take Rich Gannon's resurgence or Brad Johnson leading a Super Bowl winning offense over a wide receiver at Pacific or Pitt.

That's just me.

nothing against gruden he couldve been coach at UT instead of kiffen he declined but all you Dooley haters are worse than espn I believe he is going to prove you both wrong GO VOLS
