In a nation of 400M guns. With 20M more sold annually.

Selling 10M more annually is going to result in “more safe”?
I wonder what percentage of crimes committed with a firearm and firearms that are illegally acquired?

What makes anyone think that additional laws on the law abiding citizens are going to change anything
 
Little known fact. In the case that gave us the NFA the United States government argued in front of SCOTUS that the NFA did not violate the 2A because the 2A only applies to military weapons and SBRs are not used by the military.

This will be and has been a major hurdle going forward to any gun control law that goes before SCOTUS. The 2A protects the citizens rights to own military equipment and weapons as defined by SCOTUS and has been established law for 80+years.
