Gun control debate (merged)

Here you go:

Drawing from federal and state law definitions, the term assault weapon refers primarily to semi-automatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns that are able to accept detachable magazines and possess one or more other features. Some jurisdictions define revolving-cylinder shotguns as assault weapons.
wow only a complete dum bass would believe something that stupid.

The G I Joe complex is much stronger than I imagined.

I'm now curious if that is common.

I’ve never played GI Joe with republicans, I grew up playing soilders., cowboys and Indians , going to church , and shooting every firearm we could get our hands on ( the bigger the boom the better ) with nothing but Blue blood democrats , while making fun of people from California. The most homophobia and racists people I’ve ever know throughout my life have been democrats ( most are very quiet about it but still are , even when I lived in California) Odd isn’t it ? It’s not a Trump thing

Dumbasses on various courts playing politics.

What? Do you think federal judges are infallible?
Of course not. But I think repeated rulings over 100+ years pretty much establishes how the constitution is being interpreted.

Nobody grows up playing Navy or AirForce.

You grew up when and where?

I only ask because I'm guessing that wherever you grew up is now 80% red

West Tennessee , Northeast Mississippi. 70,80s , left to explore the country , came back worked in Mississippi with 400 of of the most blue blood , I wouldn’t pee on a Republican if they were on fire people you’ve ever met . That’s was fun the 90-2000s so the big switch you are about to bring up doesn’t work . Also all those tree hugging liberals in California are racist AF in private . They pretty much ignore the gay communities

As far as I know , I’m the only one in my family that doesn’t vote blue no-matter who . I can’t say about the others I worked with , I’d guess the same ( union workers with the local being over 60 years old )

You have to understand the term "assault weapon" is something cooked up entirely for political purposes which is why the definition can be almost anything. To put a face on it one of the people most famous for weaponzing the term is Josh Sugarmann who had this to say all the way back in '88:

"the weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons."

We all know the insidious nature of controlling language and this is a naked use of the tactic.

so an assault rifle is just a regular rifle? with an iddy biddy 22ish caliber round (it is round, right? not a magazine or 3000 clicks per second thingy?) what about color of the rifle, does a certain color scare certain people that don't like guns?

My favorite is there’s no place in society for “ weapons of war “ . If you are trying to hurt me or my family , you have declared war on us , I will do everything in my power to make sure anything I can get my hands on becomes a weapon of war and the bigger the better . Some words are scarier than others. “ Assault rifle sound way more terrifying than a 30 cal or 30-06 “ unless you were on the wrong end of the -06 in WW2

The short answer is anything they can throw against a wall and make stick to move the needle to their benefit. They don't even need the slightest understanding of what that entails either. When you get a minute look up when the NY Dem Carolyn McCarthy cited "shoulder thing that goes up".
