Hail to the Washington Commanders

I have heard a lot of news about who Washington is looking for.

I've heard rumors of Gruden and Bruce Allen.

EDIT: Just confirmed that Allen has been hired as either VP or GM for the 'Skins. That's a good move.

I've heard Gruden is very happy as an analyst. He even just signed an extension. I'd be more than happy with Shanahan. If a hire like Shanahan is made and with the acquisition of George's little boy to be the GM, I'm optimistic that Snyder will finally keep his nose out of the operations of football side of the Redskins.

Hail to the Redskins,
Hail Victory!
Braves on the Warpath,
Fight for old DC!

Jury's out on Shanahan. He was less than impressive after Elway and Davis left. Huge upgrade over the Zorn, though.

Shanny is fine. It was his best-friend and DC Bob Slowik that was terrible. In 2006, prior to his appointment, the Broncos were 8th in Points and 14th in Yards.

2007
Points: 28
Yards: 19

2008
Points: 30
Yards: 29

Now that he's out, in 2009, the Broncos (with pretty much the same personnel) are 6th in Points and 3rd in Yards.

interesting. even prior to that though, shanahan didn't do a tremendous amount after elway left. I think he'll probably turn things around in dc, just not 100% sure. I am, however, sure that it will be better than what's in place there now.

Commentators are having a blast with this game. This entire thing has been crazy.

Calling only Haynesworth on that PF is ridiculous. Jacobs throws first punch on DeAngelo Hall and gets nothing and Haynesworth sticks up for his CB and gets called. Stupid, but a respectable penalty.

Well, the 'Skins better draft Okung. If they pick up Bradford... he might as well sign his Last Will and Testament.

I would love for the 'Skins to be in position to draft Okung. And then in the second round, draft another O-lineman. Even when Samuels and everyone else was healthy, the O-line still sucked.

Jason Campbell looks awful so often, but I can't fault him when he can't even take a three step drop without getting crushed. I'm also not sure about any of our receivers. Moss is good, but he's not #1 receiver good. I think the D is fine if given an offense and a coach that could motivate them.

What pissed me off more than anything during the melee last night was that Zorn didn't do anything about the no call for the Gmen. He should have been at midfield yelling at any ref that would listen. The game was out of reach, who would have cared that you would've got more penalties? Show your players you care. I can't wait for him to be fired. I was hoping Allen would have done it at halftime.

Mortenson just reported on Mike and Mike that the Bruce Allen hire was something that Shanahan wanted before he would agree to coach the 'Skins and that it's essentially a done deal. Please bring Shanahan to DC Santa! I've been really good this year!

Haynesworth sent home after arguing with DC Blanche

washingtonpost.com

Frustrated with losing and what he says is the unwillingness of defensive coordinator Greg Blache to embrace change, Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth could not "survive another season in this system if it stays the way it is," Haynesworth said late Friday afternoon.

In a lengthy phone interview shortly after he was sent home from practice by Coach Jim Zorn for disciplinary reasons, Haynesworth for the first time discussed his poor relationship with Blache and provided his most detailed explanation yet about the flaws, in his opinion, of Blache's disciplined scheme, which has helped the Redskins rank ninth overall in defense. Haynesworth expressed fear that owner Daniel Snyder's major investment in him -- the Redskins guaranteed Haynesworth $41 million in signing him this past February -- would be wasted unless he again is given freedom to "create havoc" as he did in his first seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans

Bigger trainwreck: the skins or the raiders?

Raiders. Without a doubt.

Snyder arguably only got Allen there by promising to step back and let a football man run the organization. Snyder looks to be just a financial boost at this point. He's smart enough to realize that the combo of him and Cerrato did not work. Allen should be a very good fit for the Skins... especially with his history with the club. If Shanny comes in, and brings his son (OC for the Texans) they'll look to have a good staff in place. As long as Shanny doesn't bring in his DC from Denver. Ugh.

It's ironic, though, that both teams have surprisingly good defenses. Both have something to build on... but the Skins are less down the hole than the Raiders are. You have 2 worthless players (Heyward-Bey and Russell) on the Raiders that are guaranteed something like $65,000,000. Russell has to be the worst pick in this decade and probably one of the worst in the history of the NFL. McFadden isn't durable and not worth the money. Heyward-Bey has been passed by Crabtree even though he had a 5 game head-start. Terrible 1st Round drafting at Oakland.

At least Orakpo looks to be able to pan out and pay off for the Skins. The jury is out on Landry. If Berry does go to the Skins (and look for him to if Okung isn't on the board) the Skins will have a disgusting backfield if Landry goes to his natural SS.
