I thought about and could not really remember anything he said, then I realized that "actions speak louder than words" is what I have taken from him. He lives it every day in how he works, plays, and in raising his family; and he never once had to tell me.

My dad has always modeled humility and helping others. Above all, he's honest and genuine. He's always told me, "Son, you're only as good as your word." I've tried to maintain that.

"We all like to play but always get your work done before you play." or said a different way "Work before pleasure".

Simple words but words of wisdom I have tried to live by.

Gramps! You're back! Or have you been back?

Hope things are going well.

"Character is who you are when nobody is watching."

-Quote in the old weight room in the indoor at UT

"Either you view yourself as a grasshopper or a giant. Which is it, son? Are you what people say you are or are you what He made you to be?"

-My dad (referencing the 12 spies story from the Old Testament)

Don't argue with your mom

"If you aren't going to leave it all on the field - don't get on the bus".

This applied to everything from digging a ditch to playing a sport to marriage. Give it your all or don't do it at all.

*applies

Lead by example . Don't ask someone to do something in a way you wouldn't do it yourself. I teach my kids this every day. Do things the right way, to the best of your ability .

Told my grandmother once that we were going to a club in Nashville. She told me "remember son, if you sit in a pile of crap, you will get up with some on you."
