Handicapping next year's schedule

We lose our offensive and defensive lines. I look for 2014 to be another long year with posdible 4 -5 wins. Chattanooga is the only easy win. ARK ST scsres me. Utah St could be a tough game. I think it is 2015 before CBJ has the personnel in place to run his system.

I hope I am wrong, we shall see.

I know we all dream of National Championships but let's try not to go through this win-loss prediction thing again this year. Last year the Auburn game was a sure win and we know how that turned out. Maybe UT will be the Auburn of 2014 but think about it this way, if we take 35 new players, that is 41 percent of your 85 scholly players that are either freshmen or JUCO transfers. They haven't been in our S&C program or been thru a Butch practice, run out on the field in front of 102,000 fans (think they won't be nervous at first?) and some may even be homesick and not do well, it has happened. So instead of predicting the schedule let's enjoy watching the development of these fine new players into SEC players who we hope will have great success.

When did this TN team do something to make one believe there is such a thing as an easy win for them in any game ?

same thing every year..

then when UT loses to them, excuses are made.

When UT beats them, they are solid teams that prove how strong UT is.

When someone else beats them, it suddenly is pointed out how weak they are.

While what you typed is entirely true...THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

I know. Just dreaming. Anyway we would run out of things to argue about.

Wait, run out of things to argue about! Geez, I forgot where I was for an instant.

If the coaches, players and the majority of the Tennessee fans have your attitude, I would not renew my season tickets which have been in the family since 1933. Fortunately, none of them do and we look forward to the new season. Attitude is the most important aspect of success for people, teams ,businesses, and Nations, Success is rarely achieved with negative attitudes. I wish you a happy and properest 2014.

There is a difference in negative and realistic. I am on the Butch wagon would love nothing more than to see UT start winning a lot of games again. But, If these players and coaches come in with the attitude of sure fire wins then we may see more games like the South Alabama game. There is no way to handicap the "118" team because nobody has seen 35 of the players that will have an impact on this team next season. Be patient and quit creating pressure on this young team to win a certain # of games to be considered a success.

Great points.

Bowl games are tough. There was no way Bama was pumped to be in that game knowing Auburn was playing for the NC. Similar to UF last year.

If OU and Bama played in Oct. it would have been a blow-out for Bama. Circumstances dictate the outcome in a lot of games.

Why does everybody make excuses for bama every time they lose in a bowl game? I watched that game they showed up and tried to win that game. You could see that from the first tackle on the kick off. Maybe they just got outplayed by OU?

USCjr and UGA. You can look at the positives or negatives. The reality is if we would have replaced that Oregon game with something winnable we would have been 6-6 going to a bowl and you would be claiming we are on the way back.

unless that team had the firepower of Vandy, then 5-7 would still be the record.

OU played well. I'm just saying that bowl games are tough to predict when the game is a "letdown" when the team had higher expectations.

There's is too many variables to consider with our team....not to mention all the QB's leaving @ Bama, USCe, Georgia and the rebuilding many teams will be doing.
Team 118's wins/loses can't be predicted....That is encouraging and refreshing for a change.

I agree with this. But nobody can honestly say bama didn't prepare for OU like they did for everybody else on their schedule. With the exception that bama had a month to prepare for them. OU just had "that game" like we had against USC.

wow beat usc 2013 but dont think we can with a better teaam. things that make you go hmmmmmm.

What on earth leads you to believe that a team replacing both lines will be better?

I have hope that maybe the new OLine will work harder than the most underachieving, overrated OLine in Vols history...but it's gonna take time.

Because both lines have players who have started 2 or more games. Isn't like 2011 with all freshman starting.

Then some on here would say that OU was "lucky."
