Handicapping next year's schedule

USCjr and UGA. You can look at the positives or negatives. The reality is if we would have replaced that Oregon game with something winnable we would have been 6-6 going to a bowl and you would be claiming we are on the way back.

So, you're saying that last years VOLS performance against UGA and USC equals sure fired wins against future opponents. Brilliant just brilliant.

VN, if nothing else is quality entertainment.

For the record, 6-6 would not have and will never have me claiming anything except mediocrity.

There is a difference in negative and realistic. I am on the Butch wagon would love nothing more than to see UT start winning a lot of games again. But, If these players and coaches come in with the attitude of sure fire wins then we may see more games like the South Alabama game. There is no way to handicap the "118" team because nobody has seen 35 of the players that will have an impact on this team next season. Be patient and quit creating pressure on this young team to win a certain # of games to be considered a success.

There is also a difference in attitude, and attitude plus bigger, faster, better athletics give me and many others reasons to be optimistic. If you don't want ride that train, have at it. I think my summer will much happier abd the people around me will slso be happier. If we have another 5-7 season, then I may not be as happy as you. We will see by the end of November.

Going into the season OK, GA, FL, AL, MS, SC, MZ, and maybe UT St and Vandy will be ranked. Preseason we will be expected to go 5-7 at best. No "easy wins" on the schedule either. Even UTC, if they continue their ascendancy, will bring their best team in decades. Have to beat FL at home or get two tough SEC road wins to make a bowl... and that's only IF we avoid being upset by Utah St or worse. (See 1958.)

Because both lines have players who have started 2 or more games. Isn't like 2011 with all freshman starting.

I agree completely. Vereen was a much better end than Smith and he was a true freshman. Miller had like 4 and a half sacks, a record, in the last game, but had one or two the rest of the season. At tackle, McCullers and Hood did very little.

We will have a whole lot more depth next season, and I would put money down that a line of Hendrix, Williams, Saulsberry and Vereen is better than this year's team.

I won't even go into the o line, but we have Jackson returning, Blair is a more than capable AA JUCO.....

Sometimes turnover is the best thing, especially when it means less of the losing Dools influence.

As crazy as it may seem...10-2/9-3 is not totally ridiculous and out of the question if you think about it. We've got some big time talent coming in that could make a huge impact right away.

Ark State, Chatt, UK, and Vandy (with Franklin now gone) should all be in the bag. So that's 4 wins.

Utah State is a scary team. But I think our talent and home field advantage will be enough to give us that win.

Oklahoma will be really good next year. And the game is in Norman. So that makes matters even worse.

Georgia will be losing their star QB of the last four years and some key talent. And we seem to always play them close for the most part.

Florida is coming off their worst season in decades and that game is at home. Honestly, I don't see a reason why we should lose that one. The time is now to take advantage and get our revenge.

Ole Miss will have high expectations this year. They are returning a ton of talent and the game is in Oxford. But, Ole Miss is a team that can be beat. They seem to fold in previous games of pressure.

Bama. This is one of the games where we could win solely on emotion alone. Kiffin will be returning to Knoxville after deserting us four years ago for the ex-girlfriend. It's on our home field and Neyland will be packed. Bama is also losing a ton of talent.

South Carolina will also be losing a lot of talent. They won't be as strong as they have been in the past.

Mizzou will be coming into Neyland with a lot of key players missing from last year's 12-2 team and may even be missing their star receiver. This game is definitely a toss up in my opinion.

In all honesty, I see us finishing 7-5 and heading to the Music City Bowl. But it isn't totally out of the norm to sneak a couple of wins from teams who have lost a lot of their star talent and to take advantage of home field advantage.

Definite wins: Ark St, Chatt, UK, Vandy.

Should-be wins: Utah St, Florida.

Toss-ups: Georgia, Ole Miss, SC, Mizzou.

Miracle upset: Bama.

Posi-Vol, Sunshine Pumper, Butch Supporter out.

If the coaches, players and the majority of the Tennessee fans have your attitude, I would not renew my season tickets which have been in the family since 1933. Fortunately, none of them do and we look forward to the new season. Attitude is the most important aspect of success for people, teams ,businesses, and Nations, Success is rarely achieved with negative attitudes. I wish you a happy and properest 2014.

4 guaranteed wins. 6-6 if we are lucky. Our defense won't be any better. Offense will a little better this year. Don't get your hopes up. Vandy still not an automatic win.

Seriously?

Yeah, he got busted for something else than having 5 ounces in him.

Edit: Misread the tweet, He's released from jail.

They found a pound of weed in the car. How will he not face charges? That has intent to sale all over it.

I didn't post that there was or wasn't either way, I'm simply asking those pinning down easy wins how on earth they came to that conclusion.

Because if you think we are losing to Chattanooga, you clearly are still taking the short bus to grammer school.

Does that help? :)

Did you seriously actually type that?

Is there a person somewhere that thinks 6-6 is NOT mediocre? :lolabove:

Isn't a 0.500 record the very definition of mediocre? Can you BE more mediocre than that?

But thanks for the insight. :eek:lol::good!::clapping:

UTC is top tier Southern Conference now, which means top tier Division I. Of course, we have them outmanned, but they do have the athletes to create some mismatches here and there. If South Alabama could stay within a touchdown this year, UTC is capable of giving us a game next. Wasn't that long ago that Appy St beat Michigan.

No "easy wins."

Vandy lost all their talent and their coach. Major league beeotch slapping as we regain "our second home in Nashville"!!!

We can beat Utah State but they are much tougher than WKY or KY was to us this year.

I see between 5-7 and 10-3 record as the upper and lower limits but it will probably end up being 7-6 or 8-5 counting bowl win.

I'm starting to feel real good about our defense. We just need a couple of greenhorn recruits and Vereen to step it up on the line.

On offense, our O-line will be fine but the first 3-4 games will be a concern. Blair, Jackson, Kerbyson, Wiesman, and a few others that slip my mind are ready for the task at hand.

QB is a concern but someone will rise above the others. A lot of improvements are made between the first and second year and by the early camp for EEs as well.

When did this TN team do something to make one believe there is such a thing as an easy win for them in any game ?

If this TN team can't chalk Chatt up as an easy win then the AD needs to go ahead and start the paperwork to transfer the program to FCS status now.
