Btw, Mizzou fan here.

We researched and posted this on our board earlier.

Tennessee currently has 41 former 4 & 5 star recruits on roster.

Mizzou has 11

Your recruiting and talent is not the problem. It's your player development and attitude.

This is a load of bull****.

You literally just added up the number of 4*s on our Rivals list over the last four years, without any regard whatsoever for the massive attrition that has taken place.

Here are the 4*s who actually played for the Vols for 2013:

LB Marlon Walls (2009)
OL JaWuan James (2010)
DL Corey Miller (2010)
RB Rajion Neal (2010)
DL Jacques Smith (2010)
OL James Stone (2010)

DB Justin Coleman (2011)
LB AJ Johnson (2011)
RB Marlin Lane (2011)
DB Byron Moore (2011)
OL Antonio Richardson (2011)

WR Jason Croom (2012)
WR Pig Howard (2012)
DL Daniel McCullers (2012)
DB LaDarrell McNeil (2012)
DL Danny O'Brien (2012)
QB Nathan Peterman (2012)

WR Paul Harris (2013)
WR Marquez North (2013)
LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (2013)

Not counting Maurice Couch since he didn't play against any of the meaningful opponents on UT's schedule.

So that's a total of 20 players from the 2013 Vols who were 4* recruits, not the 41 you pulled out of your butt in such a dishonest manner. Way to go.

Who just got arrested for a major felony, and will probably not be on the team next year

Not sure that's the case anymore.

The reports following all that seemed recently to be more of the "he needs to find new friends/people to hang out with"

Charges have not yet been filed against Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, who was arrested early this morning in Springfield, Mo., for “felony distribution, delivery, manufacture or production of a controlled substance.”

It’s unknown if Green-Beckham will face charges regarding the incident.

Green-Beckham was released from Greene County Jail early Saturday morning.

“(The release) probably means he wasn’t involved with what they thought he was involved in,” a jail spokesman told The Maneater, Missouri’s student newspaper.

Plus, from twitter
@Dave_Matter
Sounds like Green-Beckham might have been riding with wrong crowd. Could avoid criminal charges. Stay tuned. Unsure if answer comes today.

That could still easily change in the next few months though

All that 4* material and we end up at 5-7 again.

name Missouri's last 4 star recruit...

Maty Mauk

Mauk was a 3 star on rivals

But it looks like, according to Rivals:

they have 2 this year though.

They had 1 with their 2013 class.

Boehm (OL we tried to get) in 2012. (plus I guess Green-Beckham, but he was a 5 star)

1 (Sheldon Richardson; he was drafted by the Jets in the first round of last year's draft) in 2011.

And they had 7 in 2010. (One of which was their QB Franklin)

The problem is massive attrition.... And it's hard to develop players when they have to learn a new system every year.

Explain all of the other offers these players have had from other top schools. Stop with this "no talent" bs, it's the oldest excuse on VN.

Offer lists means absolutely nothing. Just because a player has all kinds of offers or high star rating doesn't mean they are gonna pan out. We are getting talent. It's not an excuse it's just reality for most of us fans. Ones like you just need to find negatives about the team to justify your piss poor attitude.

Also Mizz. had a lot of 5th year sr.s which happens if your majority recruits are 2 or 3 stars and they graduated a lot of players this year...look for them to go 6-6 this year. We in turn had a lot of 4 star problem childs that left for various reason and some stayed but were cancers with talent.

If our 41 4 and 5 stars aren't enough to give us a talent advantage over Vanderbilt and Missouri, then I wonder why everyone is banking on a new crop of 4 stars doing so.

Talent + Development = Skill on the field

5* Talent + 0 Development = 5

3* Talent + 5* Development = 8

8>5

Talent is ONLY a starting point. NOTHING more.

That actually explains a lot about the coaching staff last season.

subpar talent with continued subpar development.

We don't know do we? There is certainly a challenge upon Coach Jones to develop players out of raw talent at a rate fast enough to "keep the hounds at bay." We fans are an impatient sort and that is what put us in this predicament in the first place.

It's not that complicated really. All new coaches should simply get 3 years to earn a 4th, and then go from there. Dooley didn't have to win an SEC championship in his 3rd year but damn if he didn't at least need to get us to a bowl game.

It's not the fans who are that impatient. If you look on the boards here, most posters seem to want to give Butch Jones 4-5 years to do anything. There are no other programs coming off 4 straight losing seasons who get 90,000+ to come to their games. If winning football programs were determined by the patience of their fans, then UT would be at the top every year because our fans are considerably more patient than the fans of any other major program I know of.

Unfortunately, the game itself is rather impatient. If you look at the SEC in the past couple of decades, you'll see its quite clear that coaches who don't win big in their first couple of years don't win championships in the long run. Only 2 of the last 23 SEC Championships were won by coaches who had a losing record in their first year at their school. I can't think of anyone in the last two decades who has spent several years at a major school with mediocre results and then won championships at that school. But most posters on here seem to think that's the norm and that's what we should expect from our coaches. That attitude is so "patient" it's practically insane.

I see many posts that would seem to indicate that anything less than a 12 win season is "mediocre." That could simply be an incorrect perception on my part. We will see how patient our fan base is going forward as this relatively stellar recruiting class develops into players over the next couple of years. If the fans and the AD are indeed patient then I think the program is well on its way to a successful run. If not then we reboot and start over.
