Hardnosed political discussion . . .

If real aliens showed up, the Democrats would claim they were an oppressed minority and create an entitlement for them and the Republicans would try to create a tax incentive for extraterrestrial aircraft operators.

They play the same game.

finally GAVOL a political issue that we are close to seeing eye to eye on. never thought i would say that.

Well....I agree that this is a rule of law issue, but I think the idea of mass deportation is a complete pipe dream.

Here's my solution:
1) Close the borders, tight. If we gave amnesty to all 13-17 million illegal aliens already in the country now, in 10 years they would be replaced by a similar group demanding citizenship.
2) Any felons or future felons in the group already here would be immediately kicked out.
3) Create a pathway whereby the pre-existing group can become citizens in the future, say 7-10 years. This would be contingent on a)learning the English language B) having a job and paying taxes and c) not bringing all of their dependants to be welfare burdens of the school and healthcare systems. Lastly, any young hispanic of military age, male or female, that volunteered and served in the military would be granted citizenship after 3 years. (The Romans did this but required 25 years which few survived this long in a Roman Legion).
4) Repeal the provision that if a baby is born to an alien in the United States he/she immediately becomes a citizen. Same thing with this mail order bride thing, where they become an American citizen by marrying an American.

I may mail above suggestions to all the members of congress, though I'm sure if Heath Shuler is elected he would want me to write it on a wristband to help him remember it. (just kidding) :biggrin2:

Or, at least, if not any of us, Tom Cruise can.
P.S. Speaking of Tom Cruise, did you know that the CIA determined that the Osama Bin Laden tape last week was recent and OBL is not dead because OBL mentioned Tom Cruise's baby on the tape! :birgits_giggle:

OK . . . We'll try this again.

The rules are: 1) As always, no namecalling or personal attacks. 2) Don't say something stupid and expect not to get nailed for it . . . .

How to be a Good Bush Republican....
What You Need To Believe To Be A Good Bush loving Republican

1. Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred
of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

2. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed
him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, but ultimately he's the worlds worst tyrant when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

3. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the
country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of "international harmony"...

4. The United States should get out of the
United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

5. A woman can't be trusted with decisions
about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

6. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops with quality speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and
combat pay.

7. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

8. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

9. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

10. Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

11. A president lying about an extramarital affair is a impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

12. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

13. The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

14. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

15. Supporting "Executive Privilege" for every Republican ever born, who will be born or who might be born (in perpetuity.)

16. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

17. Support for hunters who shoot their friends and blame them for wearing orange vests similar to those worn by the quail.

Well, I would think it be May Day and all that we could talk about the protesters.

I mean what is there not to like about protesters protesting the United States when they want to become a United States citizens?

Why don’t we call them undocumented workers...................?

Viva U.S.A.!

Oh yeah, we get to bash each other again......how about trying this website UTGradnNC...

Laugh at Liberals

Make sure to check out the pictures.........

For the sake of responding, here is my list....

Ever since Michael Dukakis suffered a terrible drubbing at the polls for flashing his ACLU card in public and for identifying himself as a liberal without embarrassment, the dreaded “L” word has fallen into wide disfavor, even disrepute. Some liberal politicians, like Bill Clinton, don’t like to use it all. Nevertheless, it’s still possible to know who’s a liberal and who is not.

You might be a liberal if . . .

You think that consenting adults can engage freely in every activity except capitalism.

You named your children Moonglow and Arizona.

You think the really alarming violence takes place outside the abortion clinic.

You’ve ever referred to the “root cause” of something.

You pray to “The Woman Upstairs.”

You think we never gave peace a chance.

You had to be told that “Manhattan,” “menopause” and “boycott” were not sexist words

You begin sentences with the words “I feel.”

Your driver’s license has a hyphen because for you one last name just isn’t enough.

You don’t think “All in the Family” is a very funny program, but watch it anyway because Meathead makes a lot of sense.

You think OJ is out looking for the real killers.

You think Julia Sugarbaker is an astute social commentator.

You think it takes a village.

You think that the words “to promote the general welfare” in the Constitution mean to promote welfare generally.

You think that, even though more people voted against him than for him in both the 1992 and the 1996 presidential elections, Bill Clinton had a mandate.

You think that conservatives, like preservatives, ought to be federally regulated.

You ever wore earth shoes.

You have ever wondered out loud, “Why can’t we all just get along?”

You think the New York Times prints all the news that’s fit.

You think that Rush Limbaugh is just an entertainer.

You spent Columbus Day reading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.

You reach the limits of your talent and then complain that you ran into a glass ceiling.

You wear more ribbons on your lapel than in your hair.

You think that the really dangerous McCarthy was Joe, not Eugene.

You blame the Unabomber’s parents.

You fail to see the connection between Lenin and Lennon.

You have ever agreed with Martin Sheen or Barbra Streisand.

Alright GA you have set up an untenable set of rules here. No namecalling but if you say something STUPID expect to get nailed for it. Does that mean that if I nail someone for something they said it is ok if I only leave unsaid that they are STUPID? I just need a little clarification.

Or maybe in the response to someone we could just say, "See Rule #2, here's your sign."

Perfect example of where Rule #3 would have come in handy. Also, I believe this post to be in violation of Rule #2...

here was america's chance to deport a good amount of illegals and we did nothing. they had a chance, to quell all these protests and it would have been the last we would have heard of it. this is whats wrong with america today, our government cares more about illegals than they do about their own citizens. as i have said before what a joke we have become.
