Harris may go pro?

I love it when people put forward the idea that a guy will improve more going to class, being coached by the Tony Jones of the world, and practicing and playing against college kids than focusing on basketball 24-7, working with the best player development guys in the world, and competing against NBA guys every day. It's ridiculous.

Good point.

I can only imagine how much better Josh Smith would have been after a few years of Mike Davis coaching.

Or Louis Williams under the guidance of Dennis Felton.

I see. Misunderstood your point.

1. Completely different players. Hopson is simply a better NBA prospect than Meeks, IMO.

2. Doesn't matter why a guy goes in the first round, only that he does.

3. Jodie Meeks is making millions of dollars, so I don't understand what your point is anyway.

actually he makes the next two years,
Meeks
$762,195
$884,293

Club option second year:)

Agree! No way staying in school helps your game more than going to the NBA! I want Scotty and Harris to stay to help UT BB not cause I think it will help their game!!

I'll go with the easy guess.

If Pearl is fired, Hopson and Harris go pro.

If Pearl isn't fired, Hopson and Harris stay.

Harris has already matched Tennessee's season record for double doubles as a freshman and the season isn't even over. If he's already on par with Chism as a senior, there is no reason to stick around for a new coach.

I expect Hopson to leave regardless of what happens to Pearl.

Harris is not EVEN ready for the NBA! :loco:

i don't think he's ready to be a starter or 6th man or even an 8th man in the league. although this depends heavily on that team the draft's him. he will probably sit while he develops a bit more. harris would "shock the world (lol)" if he started anywhere in the league next year.

here's what i'd like about harris as an nba GM. he has GREAT bball skills for a guy 6-8. he can handle to ball very well at 6-8, has some post moves, seems to have a high bball IQ, the potential to develop a consistent long range shot (he has good shooting form) and a GREAT work ethic.

my biggest concern about harris is his lack of athleticism and explosiveness. this could be a serious problem for him once he gets to the league... especially as a defensive liability.

Who cares how "ready" you are? If you're a first-round pick, you go. Priority one is to get that contract. Why pass up millions of dollars now for some theoretical chance at moving up a few spots next year?

This. There is no reason for anyone to.stay a second longer than necessary if they are a 1st rounder.

I think you may need to look at the percentage of busts because its not nearly as high as the successes.

Are you saying there are more success stories of people jumping straight to NBA or leaving after 1 year?

There are a little over 400 NBA jobs available. 10-15% of them are taken by international players. The average career length is 5 years.

With very, very few exceptions, if a person has the opportunity to get into the league, he should take it as early as possible.

I'm not saying they shouldn't take the chance. I agreed with the statement by hat about learning more at the NBA level. However, most 18 or 19 year olds are not mature enough. When you could jump straight to the NBA there were several kids every year that were drafted in 2nd round or undrafted that never made it. Maybe college wasn't an option because of grades. Again not saying they shouldn't take the chance(I wouldn't pass up millions), just saying some are not mature enough for the NBA life.

Ofcourse riding around holding people up at pilot and acting like thugs really doesnt do anything for your maturity either.
