Whoever it is, we need a QB that can throw the ball well…period. At a school with a big program like Tennessee, we don’t need a rec league approach with a QB that mostly runs and can’t throw well.

When we finally get a good passer, Tennessee can finally go in the right direction. It has been a long time since we had a great passer.

My only debate to what you said is that through Heupels own admission he has never had a true duel threat QB and the announcers last week even said it. If that is the criteria he is looking for that’s a new one for him and he might want to reevaluate that idea. Success is the passing game will open up the run game, leading to a lesser need to have a running QB.
Exactly right.
Other than it’s typical volnation, I have no idea why people keep pushing the notion that Heupels offense revolves around a mobile QB

HB helped TN score 86 points in 6 games...we have already score 72 in 2 games..HB 3 yard check downs, sacks and fumbles dont produce points...he is a 90s style West Coast QB....needs a line to give h time

May develop. But not having a future all pro player in Gilbert to throw the ball up to makes a huge difference

I can't believe I have to continue to post the same thing over and over again for you HB cultists. Do you ever stop and think before you write? Think about what you are alleging when you post this nonsense.

For the 100x, Heupel is not playing our 2 worst QBs and making his job harder on himself. There is no grand conspiracy. If he thought HB gave him the best shot to win, he would play him. Period.

Two different coaching staffs have thought HB is NOT the answer at QB. And truth be told, we saw a lot of that last year. He threw nothing but check down passes and the offense was simplified. Vandy played with like 40 guys and could have canceled because of COVID. He got destroyed in every other game we played.

The HB cultists think he is the deus ex machina quarterback who will swoop in and save the day and tidy up all the loose ends. Nope. He'll play meaningful snaps for us in 2022 or later.

Two different coaching staffs decided he wasn't the answer. Heupel went out and recruited two more QBs once he saw Bailey in practice. If we're ever down to our third QB we'll be happy to have him, but nothing he's shown to either coaching staff has shown that he's starting material.

Which two would that be? Hooker isn't one of them by the way.

Uhhh Heupel got stuffed 4th and 1 and we got a 250 RB sitting on the bench!!! Also we ran out of the shotgun!!! So coaching is not a plus.

The knock on Hooker is his ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I watched today with a VT grad. While Hooker was playing well he kept saying “wait for it” as the INT happened he said “there it is”.

it’s possible that we still don’t have an SEC QB on the roster.

So Milton and Bailey suck. Hooker sucks a little less. Why we can’t find a good QB is astounding.

Let Hooker take 1st team reps this week and from now on...and I think he might start to shine more than you think. He has a floating way about his running that reminds me of a certain aerospace engineer.

You are CLUELESS!!!

As far as coaching quarterbacks, you are correct. I am clueless, couldn't tell you the first thing to teach. You know who isn't though? Our coaching staff...and every coaching staff at a D1 school. So why don't you trust them to do their job. Are you a quarterbacks coach? HC or OC at an SEC school? In the NFL? If not, all you are doing is whining and showing us that you too are clueless.

HB does not suck. He did well for a true Frosh last year and looked great in the spring. JH is making the mistake of falling for the eye test. Size and speed have very little to do with playing QB if you cannot make the throws.
The look like Tarzan play like Jane?

I could honestly see how HB is not at the "Starter" level as Milton or Hooker right now. Bailey did everything he possibly could to give himself a great opportunity to succeed as UT's QB. Unfortunately for him, COVID denied him the chance to learn and develop as he wanted. Throw in CJP and his band that couldn't develop a QB if their lives depended on it. Milton and Hooker both have big time experience. Milton and Hooker have had better coaching than HB up until this point in their college careers. I don't see it as a knock on HB in the least bit. He has already given us a great example of dedication. Guys like that learn quickly. I think it is very realistic that when we do see him, he will be successful.

A 250 pounder also gets tackled for a loss by those two guys crashing in from either side. The problem was the play call more than the personnel.
I think Hooker misread the play. With the two guys crashing, he could have pulled it and run to one corner or the other. Anxious to watch again and see.

Play call was fine. Our OL sucked. Look at the left side on that play

Both sides sucked. The left tackle as well as the tight end and blocking back on the other side all block the interior and the two outside rushers converged on Wright, totally unaccounted for. So bad.

And the first staff you alluded to was absolute dog sh@t… the second??? I’m not holding out any hopes

Disagree. After two games (and one loss) making the switch does not make coach looks stupid. Making a change halfway through where the season is lost would.
Making a change at any point wouldn’t make him look stupid. Plus I doubt he cares. If HB gets better throughout the course of the season to where they feel he’s earned it then why would they then feel stupid?

People seem to act like he’s the next Trevor Lawrence…news flash! He’s not. He’s still essentially a Freshman because he had virtually no camp last year and was buried on the depth chart and therefore didn’t get many reps in practice. He needs to develop still

Im of the belief that college coaches value leadership and vocal skills more than who can actually play QB. HB is the most skilled passer and its not even close. I'm sure in Huepel's offense he would flourish. My biggest critique of HB was that he seemed non-chalant and didn't play with urgency. But in Huepel's offense, you have no choice. You have to be quick and high tempo. If HB could adjust to such a system he would be great. Force him to make quick reads and throws. Force him to take off every now and then. Force him to play with urgency. No doubt HB would grow into a good QB, but because he doesnt have leadership qualities he is sitting.
