You won’t get much sympathy here. No matter who starts for Florida against UT, they always have a career day.

Florida's staff should promote that to any QB ... "Hey do you wanna make an early run to Heisman prominence? ... We play TN early and youll have 600yds passing and 5TDs, as the backup with a broken foot and 2 felony charges working thru the courts".
AR-15 nearly pulled it off in Neyland last year!

Let this be an object lesson on hyping a player before they even step onto campus.

I started a thread back in 2019 saying we needed to lower our expectations and got absolutely roasted and told it was a bad analysis:

"Just a heads up, but I feel we need to slow down with our expectations for Bailey coming on to campus and being QB1 on day one. The kid throws an elite ball, no question, but he also holds onto the ball for a long time and takes sacks and he is prone to throw interceptions.

No doubt that can all be corrected, but I'm telling you, he is a work in progress as I've seen him play multiple times. You can't simply look at stats because 1. That's not a true indicator of how a player's game translates to the next level and 2. a LOT of his throws were either perimeter throws to exceptional athletes or short passes to a generational talent in Gilbert."

An acquaintance of mine who is a huge UT fan and follows recruiting pretty closely said the exact same thing like 2 days after he committed. Said he was a decent prospect, but people were way too excited about him based on what he'd shown in HS.

Said he might end up being a great player, but most of his HS production was from throwing balls to Arik Gilbert who 1) was wide open by 10 yards, 2) made an incredible catch on a not well-particularly placed ball or 3) caught a short pass and made guys miss for a long gain.

Of course, ironically enough, Gilbert has also shown nothing in college and is on his third different school. His issues seem to be off-the-field and mental, but still.
