Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

just got back from the premiere and it was excellent as expected. definitely the best film in the series so far. 4.5/5

Very good for the parts they actually put in. I liked it a lot, but they still left out too many scenes such as the Gaunt house and many other memories. They seem to focus too much on the funny side/love stories. Then they try to get back into serious mode. No battle in Hogwarts at the end? Come on. They didn't do anything with Greyback, who I expected to be an awesome character. And what was up with the attack on the Burrow? Weird. The Weasley house is just burned to the ground, but then they never talk about it again. Like where are the Weasley's living?

Oh well, still a very good movie for the scenes they created. Very funny

A quick question for those of you who are amoung this cult following of Sci-fi/ fantasy film making. Do yall make as much fun of the folks that dress up like characters and wait in line at midnight for the first viewing as the rest of us do? Cause thats just funny.

from what i read, there is a battle at the end. it just doesnt involve as many people as it does in the book. mostly harry and the d.a. i still think not putting the funeral in this movie was the biggest mistake so far in movie making history.

im ready.

After seeing the movie, it isn't that big of a deal. They do a good job of Dumbledore's closure without a funeral.

there were actually a few of those at the premiere i went to last night.....and yeah, it is pretty ridiculous. as much as a fan i am of harry potter, star wars, etc...you couldn't pay me to do that. there's a certain line i don't cross.

Plotting and methodical.!?

Much more so than any of the other installments. As good as this movie was I beleive it was focusing more on whats to come than what was unfolding on the screen.Even more than all the revelations being presented. The whole movie was like one of the "Memory Sequences" in reverse.

I'm going to have to see it again just to reconcile my own opinion of this movie, with myself! I don't think I've never had this type of reaction to a movie and for that, thank you "Harry Potter and The half blood prince"!

I also wasn't particularly sad about the no battle at the end.

People are always mad because it doesn't exactly follow the book. " There were more than three memories in the book" but to put that much in the movie it would be 4 hours long so instead of Harry having learn about Voldemort's past, he was learning how to defeat him.

Although, it was never explained what the other horcruxes were thought to be so I don't know how they are going to have Harry learn about them...

that shouldn't be a reason to deduct points from it IMO. one of the things that the half blood prince novel did was set up the 7th book perfectly.....so it would only make sense that the movie would sort of go the same route.

I just got back. I thought it was pretty good. I don't know if it was the best Potter movie yet, though, like so many have been saying. I still think the 2nd movie is my favorite.

**(DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE OR READ THE BOOKS...SPOILER ALERT FOR THE 6TH AND 7TH MOVIES/BOOKS!!!)**

The one thing I really liked:

I liked the way they muffled the word "horcrux" during the tampered Slughorn memory scene. Not even Dumbledore knew what Slughorn was hiding. I thought that was an interesting way to do it. That's not the way it was done in the book.

Things that I was disappointed with:

The bridge scene at the beginning was unnecessary, so was the burning of the Weasley house.

Harry flirting with the waitress...just a time waster.

Cutting out the Gaunts. This was important, it helped us learn how Voldemort killed his dad and how he got the ring.

Cutting out the new minister of magic. I love the scene in the book when Harry tells him off.

Too many teenage love scenes. That one scene with Hermione crying on the stairs should've been cut. It's just unnecessary.

No character development of Greyback. That made me the most upset. I think he's the scariest character in the whole series. They could've replaced the burning Weasley house scene with Lupin discussing him with Harry and it would've been much better.

They didn't explain the significance of the 7 part soul. In the movie, I don't think Dumbledore even explained to Harry how many horcruxes Voldemort made. If he did, it was extremely brief and I missed it.

They didn't explain that the snake and items from the Hogwarts founders were horcruxes.

No explanation about the inferi.

Snape needed more scenes. He came in WAY too far under the radar.

Possible foreshadowing:

When Harry touched the ring and twitched, Dumbledore gave him a quizzical look. Could it have been, in the movie version of course, right at that moment when Dumbledore realized Harry was a horcrux?

Overall, I thought it was good. However, my sister, who has not read the books, said that she didn't fully understand what was going on. I think they left out a bit too much and placed too much focus on teenage hormones.

Taking my daughter to see this tomorrow. I've enjoyed the movies up to now without reading the books.

In the book it does explain that those are Horcruxes, I haven't seen the movie yet, but none of the movies have been exactly like the books, I'm planning on going next week when some of the new wears off so it won't be as crowded and you don't have people all over the theater talking lol

Some of the stuff they didn't explain very well though, IMO will all be explained in the Deathly Hallows movies because they are breaking that book down into 2 movies...Out of the books that one was my favorite, as far as the movies go, my favorite was The Goblet Fire was my favorite

i've read the book and thought the ending was good for the most part. however......

SPOILERS......

i didn't really care for the movie's version of the closing scene where hermione and ron tell harry that they will follow him where ever he goes to hunt down the horcruxes. the book handled it beautifully.........but the film had hermione saying everything while ron mostly just sat there away from them. don't get me wrong, i still thought the film was brilliant......but they could have done that sequence much better.

Just saw it again... ***SPOILERS*** kind of

Man i just love Bellatrix's character at the end of the movie. The way she is just so gleeful and happy during her destructive rant captures her character perfectly. One of the best castings in this movie...

@duckman- yeah i agree with you on that one. Ron never really said anything and it looked liked he wasn't really on with the idea of hunting horcruxes. Maybe it is the director's way of entering the dissension between Ron and Harry/Hermione that happens later in the 7th book, and essentially leaves them in...
