Does anyone know off the top how many football players actually live in Gibbs compared to off campus? Do Freshman have to live in Gibbs or is it optional even for them?

Sounds like the university is headed for another recession and FEMA is going to provide temporary housing. Too much money being paid in buyouts for worthless past coaches

I think it's fair to ask why Hamilton overlooked the need for new dorms while spending millions to upgrade TBA (an incredible improvement) and more millions to renovate half the concourses at Neyland and take out somewhere between 5k and 10k seats.

I don't think it's that easy with the athlete/student thing that has to exist in Gibbs. I would assume it would need to be done in conjunction with Univ money.

Put another way, I'm rich *****!

everyone's rich on the internet

Anyone come across an artist rendering of the new dorm? Also, how did Hammy let this go on?

It will house 700 undergraduate men and women in two-person suites and four-person super suites.

yeah, this is the ammunition you want other coaches out there to have with less than a month before signing day

The fact of the matter is Mike Hamilton was a bad bad man that did bad bad things to this University, and there is no way to sugarcoat that.

Peyton was donating 1million to the football locker room so the money wasnt needed there. Who knows where the money was going, maybe it was paying off the 40 coaches we still have to pay off from previous years!! haha

That or Cheek funneled it through to one of his failed projects. It's amazing in a supposed not for profit ran university that so much money has so little transparency.

I survived Hess Hall, kids need to toughen up...

I survived Hess as well, and so did my oldest son (if that tells you anything), at least for a year. I will agree that the dorms at UT are old, but most of them have actually been renovated in recent years. If you want to see old dorms, go to Auburn. Both of my sons are now at AU (my apologies folks, but out of state tuition was killing me) and I was shocked at how few dorm rooms they have on campus. They recently built a new complex that's pretty nice, but the cost to live there is almost double that of any other dorm. Of course, my boys are living off campus in a mobile home. That's all you need to know about Auburn. The first thing you see when you drive on campus is a farm with cows. Add to that the fact more students live off campus in trailer parks than live on campus in dorms. Talk about a cow college.

As for the discussion on Gibbs, I seem to recall several years ago that "athletic" dorms were banned. As such, athletes were dispersed throughout campus and general population students were allowed to move into Gibbs. Is that not still the case?

It went to Neyland to upgrade the fan experience. Hamilton never once thought about the athletes and that's where he messed up while other programs were upgrading. As much as people dislike Hart he does understand where the priorities lie.

I survived Greve Hall for 3 yrs with no AC and the last year living at the end when they were renovating the library. Kids thinks its tough now they should have been there with no AC nor cable tv

As for the athletes dispersed into the general student population, I thought that was at a time when they were renovating Gibbs.

Hate to say it, but this stuff might not be Hammy or Dooleys fault. There was likely a money shortfall several years ago, possibly under Fulmer toward the end and athletic money was used to make ends meet. Robbing Peter to pay Paul just doesnt work because it only moves the shortfall. Athletics is where they expected the easiest time replacing the money, but then comes some down years for the football program and the hole only deepens. Glad Hart is trying to fill it the right way...by paying for it. Funny how the guy cleaning up the mess is always blamed for making it...GBO!
