If that's the route we want to take, then we probably don't need to be upset when we don't recruit high level kids out of HS. The kids like Sanders will stop coming if we are constantly swiping kids from the portal. Not saying whether it's a smart approach or not but I do think over the course of time, it will hurt us with HS kids at certain positions.

If we don't hit the portal as hard on the OL this off-season, we'll get a good look at what Elarbee has developed next year because there will be several new faces that he actually recruited playing next year on the OL.

I don’t care if the entire OL comes from the portal if the team is winning.

True, but quality portal linemen are rare, highly sought after, and extremely expensive. Our lack of previous high school recruiting and development is forcing us to commit more NIL money to that position group than we would probably like to. VQ and various other team sites have alluded to us consistently outbidding other teams (in high school and portal recruiting) for quality OL due to our situation.

Seems like a sure way for Satterwhite our projected starting center to transfer for a one year fix. We need to stop chasing the shiny objects and develop what we have if they are showing promise and growth. Surviving on the transfer portal is a recipe for failure in my opinion. The portal is for filling NEEDS that we haven't filled with our recruiting, I do not believe center fits that description.

If what we have is good enough, he won’t be concerned with the shiny objects

Are you guys old enough to remember when Dooley didn't recruit any OL one year? It set us back an entire cycle of recruiting and that's hard to overcome. The portal is a vital part of recruiting now and you take advantage of every opportunity.

His brother’s post and the big need we have for offensive linemen. We lose a very experienced Cooper Mays at center and this kid fits the need we have.

Recruited is one thing. My point was that our evals are off or our development is suspect or both. None of them seem to be difference makers. Would any of them start at UGA, Oregon, Ohio State or Texas? Even our portal gets don't seem to be all that special. What have Brazzell and Thornton given us? Heard is a work in progress. Just seems that we aren't so great at identifying talent or we don't get the best out of them.

It's hard for guys to develop past a point without playing time, practice is not a game. They need to be out there with real bullets flying. The last point I would make is we aren't getting highly rated portal guys without concessions being made for playing or starting. The guys rated highly aren't going to waste their last year without KNOWING they will be starting, would you?
Hell no you wouldn't and I definitely think it will affect recruiting if we always pass over guys that have worked and earned their shot for a proven portal guy. Yes we all want the best but you can't tell me as a recruit this type of thing wouldn't affect your decision. Save the macho "I'm a badass and can take the position" ******** for someone else. These kids and their parents aren't going to take that kind of chance when they have 45 other options that they don't have to worry about. If our OL drops off without this guy then CJH has to rethink the coaching they are getting. Nothing changes for the good if we keep backfilling with portal for every starting position, only bad can come from thins type of thinking .
