I've had the misfortune of dealing with, or having to listen to, Fulmer at more Caravan and VASF meetings than I care to count. So I don't have to rely on newspapers to form an opinion of the man. While I commend him for taking the time to talk to PJs mother, by the way, glad to hear she's doing better, I still think he's a sanctimonious jerk. I've dealt with him enough, I'm entitled to that opinion. I disdained him when we were winning, so this past season's record doesn't matter to me on the issue of my personal feelings toward the head coach.

Been to many events like you stated hate and I got a total different opinion. I find him to be very open to fans at these events by taking questions signing anything you have and taking photos till all are done. So I don't get it. He is not a loud person, never has and never will. He is a former O lineman and acts like one. Those who played ball know what I mean. Most are very much like CPF in their demeanor.

My opinion is that your self proclaimed "venom" towards him taints your opinion BIG TIME!

I would agree that my personal antipathy does color my comments about the man. However, most former offensive lineman I know are very slow to throw their colleagues under the bus. Fulmer, dating back to the infamous '95 Florida game "I don't teach them to fumble" comment, has shown himself to have a propensity for doing so. Also, most former O-Line types tend to mind their own house, instead of worrying about others. Fulmer's Captain Ahab- like mission against Alabama, by his own admission, took his focus off the business at hand. Had he spent more time working and less time time playing Columbo, he might not have had the total breakdown in discipline we've seen recently.

Give me a break! Spurrier turned bammer in not CPF. Carr, Nutt and other coaches (whose names escape me now) said the same things CPF did and they all went after bammer. Bammer focused on us because they hate us. The media did the same for drama reasons. As far as throwing players under the bus? ALL coaches will make similar comments after a game with a bunch of turnovers. You quoted Parcells earlier. I remember him calling his Cowboys team (paraphrase)"a horrible team that can't catch, hold onto the ball or tackle and they arent tough enough to win big games yet". Was the Tuna throwing his guys under the bus? No. He was pointing our deficiencies in his team like all coaches do.
When CBP says that we aren't boxing out good enough and we need to get tougher in the paint and fight ahrder for boards is he throwing his players under the bus? NO!

First, professional sports are a whole different animal. Ripping millionares in the press doesn't bother me. Criticism is part of the job. Parcells always eventually comes back to himself and takes the blame for bringing in guys who don't produce. Next, I don't remember Spurrier or anyone else setting up meetings between Tom Culpepper and the NCAA. There's a huge difference in telling the NCAA there's a problem and becoming an active part of the investigation. If Pearl begins to consistently cover himself by talking about how the players need to do this and that, without ever really taking himself to task, I'll be first in line to criticize him. After the Arkansas game, Pearl took the blame for not resting guys. That's a far cry from "We don't teach them to fumble" and 'We may have overestimated our talent."

Like I said. Your "venom" clouds your judgement on CPF. Spurrier made the call. CPF was asked to assist in the investigation as were other coaches. CPF was brought to light because of a law suit. As far as the fumble comment goes? A frustrated coach will make comments. It is kinda funny that when he steps up and takes blame and says it starts with him and goes so far as to send out a letter he is faking. But he is aggrivated about fumbles that cost us a game and he is throwing players under a bus. CBP is applauded on here for "calling his players out" in the media and CPF is throwing them under the bus. I know, you hate the guy. Fine. You stick with BB and let the rest of us handle football. That way you can save your "venom" for when it matters.

Not a bad idea. When we finish with a 7-5 regular season, I should have a fair amount of venom built up.

what if we finish 9-3?
I'll congratulate the coach for exceeding my expectations and getting things headed back in the right direction.

I'll be more than glad to live up to my end of this. It's encumbent on the football coach to make it happen.

I think he will bro. I really do. I try to look at things in a realistic manner. We did underachieve this past year. No excuses. I think CPF took longer than most of us wanted in making changes. But as I see it, he has earned the right to make management decisions he deems necessary. I stand behind him and the team until proven that I should not. If we have more seasons like this past season then changes need to be made. But I wouldn't be putting to much money on it. I think we will be the turn around team of the year in 06.

Hope you're right.

That is the most positive post I remember you posting about UT football. Now be honest. It didn't hurt did it?
I defy anyone to find a single post where I root for the football team to fail. Anytime I hypothesize that we are on a downhill slide, I hope I'm proven wrong.

I know Mr. Positive.

"Last year's offensive team was capable of much more than what we produced, and starting with me, none of us did a very good job.
-Phillip Fulmer

Another exhibit in the case against the "Fulmer never takes any blame" argument.

Miles was in the SEC Championship game in his first year. How many years did it take Fulmer to get there?

Where is Miles National Title?

Or SEC Title?

If he wins either in the next four years, he'll be ahead of your husband. Vicky, you should stick to ferrying your daughters to swim meets and leave the sports discussions to those who have some knowledge.
