He's a pious phony. I don't mind if a guy is playing on the edges of the rules. However, if you do, don't try to pass yourself as The Last Honest Man In College Basketball.

The same ones. I've been telling people since Pearl got here that he's a phony who's no more concerned about complying with 'AA rules than the next guy. The sheep and the apologists just chose not to believe the truth.

Do you deny the fact that UT basketball is on a completely different level than before he got here? What about his coaching ability?

Is he better than Jerry Green and Buzz Peterson? Yes. Is he one of the 20 best coaches in America? Not even close.

I see your point, but it's not like Pearl is a one hit wonder. He has taken us to the tournament every year, a first round win in 2006, two sweet sixteens, and an elite 8 (I'll not mention the 2009 Okie St. heart breaker).

That's pretty consistent. Plus the SEC was much tougher his first two to three years.

I didn't say Pearl has only had one good season here. My point is that he's not at that elite level as a coach.

I know but that resume is pretty decent. What would he need to do to be considered a top 20 coach, in your mind?

I understand if you don't like the guy based on purely personal reasons. But to say he's not a good coach I can't agree with.

Did I say he's not a good coach? There are 340 or so teams in D-I. Not being in the top 20 doesn't mean you are competent.

Before I consider Pearl an elite coach I'll have to see sustained competence in the halfcourt defensively and something that at least remotely resembles a halfcourt offensive plan.

By good I was referring to being an elite, top 20 coach. Shoulda been more clear I guess.

I thought we were much improved in the half court on both sides this season - even if it was due to depth and legal issues.

At least you have reasons for disliking the guy. I may not agree with them but you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

I agree, since I have been logging on at this site I don't
recall ever reading a positive post by hatvol. Hat, were you the one that ratted out the vols? You do seem to be anti Vol.
