HatVol hits the Big Time...

I find it humorous that the true fan police call out Hat when he is a guru on a Volunteer message board.

I don't agree with all of Hat's opinions but simply because he doesn't support one of our coaches (who certainly isn't Coach K like some simpletons on this board seem to believe) doesn't mean he's not a fan.

Same goes to every other poster who has an opinion different from yours. Get a grip, people.

I am not the biggest fan of some of hatvol's posts, but everyone has their own opinion.

The Avon Barksdale reference did earn cool points though. I loved The Wire.

Is he better than Jerry Green and Buzz Peterson? Yes. Is he one of the 20 best coaches in America? Not even close.

I know one season doesn't dictate a coaches career success, but what does that say about the other coaches that allowed him to take UW-Milwaukee to the Sweet 16? It's a little sad that a coach not even close to the top 20 could compete with the powerhouse that is UWM.

Kansas and Ohio State should just go ahead and fire Bill Self and Thad Matta.

Stan Heath made the Elite Eight at Kent. Bill Self made the Elite Eight at Tulsa. Thad Matta made the Elite Eight at X. Need I go on? Gary Waters had Cleveland State in the Sweet 16 two years ago. Steve Donahue had Cornell in the Sweet 16 in '10. Not like what Pearl did at Milwaukee is that big a deal.

Hat, you'll just have to agree with the Pearl lovers. No one else could have accomplished what he has done in coaching, especially considering he refuses to break NCAA rules and would rather die than lie.

No mention of the inspirational final 4 run from an unlikely source a couple years ago? Did the coach at George Mason end up getting signed on at a big time school after that run? I haven't heard schlitz about him since that tourney ended

I don't think it is feasable to say that no other coach could do what Bruce has done here, but on the same token, what other coach in the last 25 years has done what Bruce did here? I can see both sides of the fence on this one, so I am gonna perch up here on this fencepost til someone says something that makes me jump

Look at who ran the show in the period you reference. Don DeVoe was never able to adjust to the shot clock and the 3 point basket. Wade Houston was one of the two or three worst hires in the history of major college basketball. Kevin O'Neill couldn't get along with Doug Dickey and didn't stay to cash in on his recruiting. Jerry Green's post UT employment speaks voumes about his coaching acumen. Buzz Peterson was Michael Jordan's roommate. How does it exalt Pearl to have outperformed that group?

I think that we should simply be satisfied with Pearl, as he's our only option. And Hamilton. And Dooley.

If Pearl ultimately gets canned, is there a coach out there that would satisfy you? I've seen in other discussions where you've made it seem like Tennessee has other options at this point, that being said, who would meet your qualifications and potentially come to UT?

Obviously the last part is speculation but in your mind who might have some interest in coming to TN?

who you gonna git?

It's been well-established that the candidates for the head coaching gig at Tennessee are:

1. Bruce Pearl
2. Kevin O'Neil
3. Wade Houston
4. Jerry Green
5. Buzz Peterson
6. Vacant, and we end the basketball program

I'd start with Gregg Marshall and work from there.
