Have none of yall ever negotiated a pay raise?

They sure do. They donate millions to Universities because of their Athletic Programs and have educational buildings and school programs named after them.
C'mon...surely you realize that those individuals with that kind of wealth donate to universities in spite of the athletic department record, not because of it. Do you really think Jimmy Haslam donated millions of dollars over the last 15 years because the football team was doing so well? Yeah, all those 5 win seasons were great! Jimmy Haslam gave the university millions to put his name on a building because he cares about 1 thing.....Jimmy Haslams ego.

Not every portal entry ends in success for the player. The media does no favors skewing the stories that are upside only. Lots of players enter and the national coaching community takes a pass.

The Fortune 500 companies for the most part have taken annual pay raise decisions away from the employees and their immediate managers years ago. It’s pretty much data and results driven these days and with AI coming that will make it even further removed. The way it works the board decides the budget for compensation. Executives then decide how they will divide it. Middle managers are given their compensation budgets and then decide how the money is doled out based on commitments and results meeting with frontline supervisors. More and more managers and executives are strongly encouraged by their bosses to dish out compensation in a way that looks like the old bell shaped curve. Roughly 10% are high performers, 80% are mid range, and 10% are low as compared to their peers. It’s a lousy way to do it because a low performer in a high performing group gets little to no increase yet gets hit in the wallet as compared to a mid range performer in a low performing group. But the old sitting down with the boss and negotiating your pay raises are over unless you work as a small business employee.

You get a pay raise by showing your value and then getting market comps to justify your worth.

Some of yall need to realize Portal players can come back.

I don’t blame any kids getting a raise or renegotiating.

A great early lesson in how pure capitalism works
I agree to a small extent. However, team sports are also a wonderful opportunity to learn valuable lessons in loyalty, cohesiveness, and a sense of team before self. These were once considered honorable traits and were hugely rewarding. My fondest memories are of times when I was part of such a team. It's sad to me that those concepts are now actually being discouraged.
