Have you ever seen anything like this?

he made his error of not calling a timeout worse by calling it too late. Guys hit desperation shots all the time because there is no time to think and they just launch.

The irony is, that this is the most educational response you can come back with, funny stuff

The irony is you saying that you aren't defending him. You've fluffed Martin's ass more than any poster on here. It's pathetic, but has been mildly entertaining as hell the last 3 years. When he gets his ass canned, you'll be bawling your eyes out while everyone else is rejoicing.

Until Pearl isn't rehired, then the suicide rate in East Tennessee will sky rocket.

I would venture to guess, that with <3 seconds left, 35+ footers go in a lot less often than 2 footers, just a guess tho.

CM seems to be in way over his head some kid will sit for weeks then all of a sudden he is his new star off the bench. He still has 4 to 6 guys on scholarship who never see the light of day its on him he or that very weak staff recruited them

Not a bad T.O., just poor timing...we can all second guess. But damn Cuonzo and his timeouts this year lol!!

It's as if Divine Intervention was trying it's best for us to win the game but Martin still figures out how to lose a close game. If I was Barton, I am giving Martin the silent treatment for a while. Poor guy has been in the slumps for the second half of the season and he finally nails a game winning 3 that he would have remembered forever if it were not for one incredibly unorganized and dysfunctional coach.

lol! Barton should just be happy to be where he is. It's not like he has Kobe leverage. You know, it's not just about bad coaching on this team. There's nary a player but one or two that has anything to say at all and shouldn't open their mouth. The 6 player down really needs to just blend and be happy. That's all I'll say about that.

It does matter. Martin called an excellent play, it was executed to perfection, got the wonderful foul, and Stokes didn't finish it off. He makes that, you wouldn't be on here complaining.

Was that the secondary play drawn up or was it gut reaction once the first 3-4 seconds worth of looking didn't work out as planned? We may never know. The original plan was not to go to Stokes it may have been the bailout though. We almost got a 5 sec call for the 2nd time in the last few moments. Luckily we had a TO the first time and got it in the 2nd time.

That was the play, Martin said as much.

Said that play has a couple different options, but given the time and score they wanted it to go where it did.

Congrats for being clueless...A timeout is the right thing to do in that scenario. Maybe Martin should give Barton the silent treatment for going mia for several games.

Right thing to do in that scenario? I'll give you that. But was it the right thing to do in that particular moment? No. Not saying Cuonzo is a bad coach, but he sure was unlucky that time. And I sure hope he find a way to turn this team around, because they are better than this.

If that was the play, why was it the 3rd or 4th option. If it's the play, make it the first option. The inbounder looked everywhere and Stokes made his post late. Actually a defensive lapse not to front him. Good job by Stokes seeing an opportunity and posting his man. I'd bet my mortgage CM didn't call that last play for a post under the rim from the side.

Kind of what I was getting at. The play definitely looked like it was initially designed to start on the perimeter. If that was the designed ending we got lucky it didn't result in a 5 sec call because it sure developed slowly.

just look at the inbounder and where he is looking. Then late with maybe 4 seconds counted by the ref, Stokes posts late and we get him the ball. Good play.
Not drawn up to almost get a 5 second call and throw it under the rim. That pass isn't expected to be there in that situation. Think about how many times you see a bounce pass from the side out of bounds to under the basket.
Not very often. Breakdown by the Aggies and good play by Stokes to post his man when he saw the options weren't working.

I didn't say it wasn't the first option, Martin actually said that was the first option. The passer looking elsewhere were look offs I would presume.

He said there's multiple options for what they need in that spot, in that spot a 2 was needed so option 1 was stokes.

I've watched the count, he just started 4 when josh passed. I'm guessing they've practiced the play and timed it before.

good gracious, you think CM called a play with intentional lookoffs? And planned on the D playing behind Stokes in the paint?

No way did CCM call for that play to initially go to Stokes. Also no way he has 'timed' it in practice. Watching his teams play the last few years leads one to believe there's not quite that attention to detail.

Reality is that Stokes & Richardson made something out of nothing.

exactly right. Only thing is that only a bad coach would assume the D would play behind Stokes, that the on ball defender would allow that pass, and that a lane would be open from there, and call that play to him just prior to a 5 second whistle, so it's possible

So if it didn't open up after 4 what's the next option since that's option #1? No way you call a play that's that slow developing when you have no more TO's. I'd sure hope our coaches aren't coaching a player to wait 4 seconds before looking at option #2.

What's even more laughable about timing the play, is the week before our inbounds play resulted in just throwing it in to avoid a 5 sec call once again and it ended up in the Mizzou's hands. There was no option #2 or Mizzou managed to defend everyone perfectly. Which I highly doubt it since Maymon never looked anywhere but at McRae.
