Having Sufficiently Gloated, Some Serious Thoughts.

Perception wise, yes. But to say we are upholding integrity and honor because we are firing a coach is borderline goofy.

Turning a blind eye to it because it's not in the public eye is not upholding the ideas of honor and integrity.

I believe you just made Big Papa's point...good try.

Hat seems to know what's up. Here's the scenario I cooked up on the plane this morning.

Hamilton is in the hot seat as well. Knowing that he might be out right after Pearl, he runs his mouth in a bid to gain some quick approval. He may be doing this solely to save his own neck, knowing that by staying silent he's not helping his stock.

Of course a major flaw with this hypothesis is that the boosters and insiders really aren't moved by public actions like this, and might be even more pissed at him for going public at this time. Where would you rate the plausibility of all this, hat?

A few are celebrating but mostly I think you are just seeing nods of approval by people that understand that there's really no other option.

Sadly, I guess I must nod in approval to Bruce leaving. Sorta feels like throwing a successful captain overboard as a sacrifice to the gods of the sea (NCAA). To be clear, I am a huge Bruce Pearl fan. If there is one thing that has proven to be a truism, East Tennessee is not enough of a basketball haven to put butts in seats or high-level talent on the court unless there is a 'show' to match. Bruce brought the showmanship that enabled the university to stop putting out the embarrassing black curtains to hide the empty seats. He also had the guts to bring top opponents and beat them. This also put us on the national radar for TV time and McDonald's All-American Team talent. More importantly, we expected to challenge for titles and NCAA berths. For that, I may always be grateful to CBP.

But in the end, which we are rapidly nearing, keeping Bruce may just be too much risk compared with throwing him overboard. What I fear (as do many others) is that the program will return to the doldrums of being an also-ran in CBB that just happens to get a decent NCAA tournament team once in a while instead of expecting to get in every single year. (see South Carolina, Georgia (lately), Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU.) Time will tell.

It's odd that anyone would have to explain this. It's not really very nuanced.
At all. People like the guy whining about it seem to think I'm more concerned about breaking news on a free website than I with having the ability to pick up the phone and get tickets anytime I want at a number of programs and get information that often affects some of my business. They would be mistaken.

It's not the orange jacket that is silly or not, it is the man wearing it that makes it so or not.

I see nothing about the jacket that is silly. I like the throwback and hope it stays.

Bruce's greatest strength is his PR. He showed that again today in his press conference.

I don't agree with this, but it never crossed my mind about the orange jacket.

I hope the next guy carries that foreward.

I grew up in Hendersonville. :hi:

Yeah, I dig the orange jacket too. I also think Pearl had more going on than just charisma, but it was probably his biggest asset.

Hendersonville>everywhere else. My wife grew up here.

Agree about the charisma. He obviously had more than just PR, but I'm not sure there was a better PR coach in the country.

If Hamilton didn't have the blessing of the major boosters and the trustees to say what he did yesterday, he'd have been fired this morning.

Hat, I'm glad at least you and others can gloat today. I'm not a fan of Hamilton for reasons that have little to do with who or who is not the basketball coach. I think Cam Tatum having to stand before the press today and answer questions about the future of his coach says all that needs to be said about the AD and to those he answers. Enjoy! GBO.

I agree. I've felt from the beginning that that was a calculated move.

It certainly seems that way. I really hope that this fires the team up or whatever but I doubt it. I had to change my pick this morning. Very painful.

Of course in my homer bracket I still have us in the final four... :eek:lol:

Ever the optimist, IPO. Even in correcting yourself.

You know what's funny? I said that hatvol calls people stupid in 200 different ways.

You try to make a joke saying that you aren't surprised that ive heard of 200 different types of dumb.

That's sidesplitting stuff. How will I ever recover?

It apparently got to you, otherwise you wouldn't have acknowledged it.

OB, don't help him - we were having fun with the mental equivalent of a little boy who thinks that he turns invisible when covering his eyes.

But, if I've read the last several pages correctly, there is little chance that he understood what you were saying. So, hope endures.

The record isn't even broken. It just keeps repeating itself.

Don't be mad because you are naive.
