Having Sufficiently Gloated, Some Serious Thoughts.

people regularly say that around here and it is still entirely nonsensical. It's a clever quip to tell the kids so they won't call their peers names, but it still makes no sense whatsoever.

Well, OK BigPapa.. that was not really my intent, I just prefer to argue... discuss.. these issues with adults, but perhaps that is not possible here. But if affecting kids were my intent, I am at a loss as to why that would make no sense..

it makes no sense because there is absolutely no correlation between namecalling and quality of argument. None. None at all.

My golf group argues over everything and the namecalling is brutal, but it's a very bright group and generally littered with well thought out and very valid arguments. The namecalling is just how we roll and it's rarely personal, much like that on this board.

I can't really argue this because in an all male group like a cockpit where I work (well.. mostly all male anyway) the language usually devalues to a pretty base level.. and that's OK I guess... I personally see it as a loss of quality toward the argument when it goes there.. if it started there, that's one thing, but if it digresses to that point, I think it is because (like some one else has said) you have run out of ways to call someone dumb... Sorry, I was not trying to be the language police or anything like that.. I just thought there was more intelligence here. I'll hang up and listen.

Or babble about idiocy regarding "modern society" and laughably accuse people of racism. If anyone would know about not having an argument, you'd be the guy. You've been exposed as just another starry eyed University of Pearl sycophant. Hopefully, we won't seeing your ilk around here once Pearl is rightly shown the door for good.

How? What? When? Where?

I was a fan of my university's hoops before and will be after cbp.

I just want the insults to make me laugh.

It is borderline unethical to reveal whats going on with a coaching search, but not unethical to call cbp "the tanned man"?

Interesting choice of when to use ethical conduct.

Not interesting at all.

When someone tells you something in confidence, it is ethical to keep it confidential.

It's odd that anyone would have to explain this. It's not really very nuanced.

1. Bruce Pearl's tenure at UT will be a net gain for the Tennessee Basketball brand. That's why he should get a check on his way out the door.
2. While I admit I enjoy seeing Pearl publicly eviscerated, Hamilton could have handled this better. The players deserved to play the season out without further distractions.
3. People who think Tennessee can't hire someone capable of sustaining Pearl's success and building on it are out of touch with reality. Find me a program with Tennessee's facilities and a 2.5 mil per coach that isn't winning.
4. UT has done a good job working the back channels already in the search for Pearl's replacement. This process is much further down the road than it appears outwardly.

Only thing that may impact #3 is what our sanctions actually are and the fact that we will be hiring someone without knowing what the sanctions are. We definately won't be getting a "name" coach. Which may be ok.

The big outcry from many fans, is that Mike Hamilton made this statement two days before the Vols play in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. They believe that Hammy sabotaged the team by making the announcement when he did. My feelings are that this was a well thought out and planned statement from Hammy.

Mike Hamilton has a brand to protect, first and foremost. Bruce Pearl has harmed the program's image and the networks have not been shy about telling the world as loud and as often as they can. Hamilton was not ready to blow up the program in preseason, as the team was about to start practice and play. However, the season has progressed and in light of the NCAA's letter of charges, a new charge against Bruce Pearl, came to light. Hammy is making it clear that Pearl's conduct was not acceptable and a fireable offense. He is also making it clear that Bruce Pearl's refusal to sign the new contract is an openly rebellious offense against the UTAD, in light of the NCAA charges and potential punishment facing the coach and school. A move to break ties with Bruce Pearl is likely to help absolve the UTAD and bring a much lighter penalty against UT in the punishment phase of the NCAA's handling of this matter.

Secondly, the statement was made, as an announcement that the back channels of communication between the UTAD and potential coaches is open. The NCAA tournament is the best place to find your best coaches. Mike Hamilton is making sure that aspiring candidates have time to think about the UT basketball job and what it offers. Coaches will not be shy to have their attorneys and agents go through the back channels ask about the UT hoops job and have UT gauge their interest in their candidates.

In hindsight, Mike Hamilton is doing what is right for UT and protecting the long term interests of the UT basketball program.

Interesting perspective. You should share this with Basillio who's wetting his pants over this.

The sanctions will be much worse if Pearl is still here.

those great facilty weren't able to get a high profile football coach. so why would it get us a good BB coach. we're back to buzz ball.

if they let BP go, i hope everyone transfers.

I never have caught your answer to where you went to college. Maybe I should be asking whether you got a GED.

I like scoundrels, so I like Pearl. That said, he's proving to be a dumb scoundrel, and he has lost his principal asset (charisma) in this mess. If Pearl had been smart enough to actually straighten up and stop committing additional violations, I'd be for keeping him because it would piss everyone off. As it is, keeping him looks like a net loser; his mojo's gone, and he's too likely to sink the ship with additional violations.

Just please god, don't let us go get a square to replace him.

Dead on. I see it and hear it in his interviews. His charisma papered over his shortcomings. Now he's just an average coach who sometimes wears a silly orange jacket who looks puffy and sweaty. He's lost his leadership of his team as well.

Thanks for the good times Bruce, best of luck in your new career whatever that might be!

I don't agree with this, but it never crossed my mind about the orange jacket.

I hope the next guy carries that foreward.
