Having watched Vandy/UK, there's no excuse next week

The next two games are must win for CBJ. That's not to say that he should be fired if he looses. Far from it. But missing a bowl after losing the Vandy or UK is going to mean that Butch has to come out like a house of fire next year in order to keep the fans from going ballistic. Missing a bowl means a very long off season and an up hill battle on the recruiting trail. Those of us with reasonable expectations wanted a bowl and to beat someone we were not supposed to this season. Step one has been achieved and now it's time to finish the job. At this point I think they will get it done. We'll see. Go Vols.

I think we'll curb stomp Vandy and pull away from Kentucky in the second half. Bowl game, baby - book it.

Part of vandy's problem today was the timing between the qb and receivers was way off. That'll be corrected before next Saturday. I hope not though. I'm taking my daughter to her first UT game. I sure don't want her to witness a loss to vandy, especially first time out.
Go Vols

After watching this gm we should be able to win these gms handly. If we don't were in a lot worse shape than I thought.

So you believe the talent level is similar as I did not get a reasoning why UT is superior in talent. Javon will be back, Azubukie, looked like an ankle. Will need him back.

You are confusing talent and potential. There is no way to argue that Tennessee is behind Vandy on raw talent recruited. No way, whatsoever.

If you want to argue that Vandy's lessor talented players are playing above their potential, have at it.

The former statement can be tested, and proven, by looking at recruiting ranking sites for the years 2010-2013. (Here is a link to a list of the latent talent on each SEC roster after the spring game: https://db.tt/qdLrps4e)

Regardless of how much potential you believe you see there is one cold fact remaining: talent predicts outcome over 80% of the time in the SEC.

You might be right, Vandy might win, but you're betting on 20% odds.

No excuse not to beat Vandy. They don't have our talent, and what few decent players they have are banged up.

We are playing at home with a bye week to get healthy.

It's time for us to do we have done almost every game for 50 years, and that's beat little brother down into the ground.

Coming back from the Dooley fiasco means taking it one step at a time, and here's another one - so let's beat the in-state rival and keep our bowl hopes alive!!!

GO VOLS!!!!!!!

we have played the last 3 games very, very bad. our execution has been horrid. think that will make a difference??

If we contain matthewes and if Carta-Samuels plays we can win. If Robinette plays I am worried. I am also worried about their wildcat package. Our LB's and ends will have to play under control and take better angles. GBO!!!

I agree we should beat Vandy and I think we will beat Vandy, but make no mistake about it, people on here will come up with plenty of excuses if we don't.

You're absolutely correct, and it's because UT is playing like a juggernaut at this point of the season.

I know things will get rough around here if we lose but I still think the game is 50/50 depends on who turns it over.

Im all VOL, but beating vandy will be hard they got a good football team, but JF will bail for the green then it will get back to like it was the past 100 years, them the punch line for the jokes instead of us, but in a way I like this game meaning something, but I would take a good old fashion 40 point blow out win.:)

You got that right the team that does not turn the ball over will win plain and simple, I think we should just line up behind the big OL and run and run then in the 4th quarter we will take charge of the game, but coach has not called me yet to help on the game plan.:)

I have seen this quote "we have more talent" many times on the message board but I have yet for someone to explain where this much more talent is.

I believe both teams are about equally talented on both sides:

QB - Even, though I would say Robbinette and Dobbs are about equal but would take a healthy ACS over Worley all day long. ACS did not look mobile today and KY stacked the box because they knew he could not run. If he can't run this weekend, then I would go with Robinette because of his ability to tuck and UT's inability to cover at the linebacker position.

RB- Advantage UT
.
WR - No contest, especially if Krause is back

TE- even, both teams have done a sad job of recruiting tight ends for this class. The one VU signee JUCO was the one that caused this years current mess.

O-Line - Advantage UT. Not as good as everyone expected but better than Vandys

K - Toss Up, both Palardy and Spears are top in SEC

P- Advantage UT, Palardy has been $ and Vanderbilt misses Richard Kent of last year

DL- Advantage Vanderbilt - Young and aggressive, have wreaked HAVOC the last 2 weeks.

LBackers - EVEN - Both teams have serviceable LB with Vanderbilt injured on that front and starting youth

Secondary - Vanderbilt. All Seniors that are starting to gel at end of year.

Coaching - Advantage Vanderbilt. Franklin gets his guys up and even though the KY game was a trap game, the team found a way to win.

Intangibles - Advantage UT. The bye week is huge and the home field crowd with a chance to go to a bowl will be a lot to overcome.

Great game to be at...

Would like feedback because to me these teams are very comparable.

Pretty accurate post. I like Franklin's in-game coaching better than Butch's so far. Both are great motivators. I think it comes down to Dobbs. He may have to win this one on his own--if he's capable. Will be a close game. If it comes down to the 4th quarter, advantage Vanderbilt.

Everyone seems focused on the defense and they haven't had a great 4 games. But the offense has to score points or it really doesn't matter. Vols offense has scored 2 touchdowns in last three games. If they can't get at least 3 against Vandy it will be a sad night on old rocky top.

Vandy looked so bad today it wouldn't surprise me to see Robinette starting against us. I had a great time laughing as they struggled with KY.

Franklin should have started Robinette against UK. He's a much better qb than Samuels.

Jordan Matthews is a perfect example of how rating recruits out of high school isn't very cut and dry. He was a 2 star and will leave Vandy as the SEC all time leader in receptions an receiving yards! Coaching makes players better and wins u games. Many 4 and 5 star guys have been busts! Tennessee has had more talent than a lot of teams they've played the last few years and still lost to them. Kentucky in 11 , Vandy and MSU in 12 come to mine.
