Having watched Vandy/UK, there's no excuse next week

Jordan Matthews is a perfect example of how rating recruits out of high school isn't very cut and dry. He was a 2 star and will leave Vandy as the SEC all time leader in receptions an receiving yards! Coaching makes players better and wins u games. Many 4 and 5 star guys have been busts! Tennessee has had more talent than a lot of teams they've played the last few years and still lost to them. Kentucky in 11 , Vandy and MSU in 12 come to mine.

Again, and I don't know how else to explain this, what you are citing are exceptions to a well defined rule. There are always exceptions. I will take the rule that works 80% of the time, over the exception, any day.

Let's look at this from a perspective of reality...
Tennessee is at it's lowest of lows. Vandy is at it's highest of highs. Vegas calls it pretty much even.

we have played the last 3 games very, very bad. our execution has been horrid. think that will make a difference??

Yes because Vandy is it Alabama, Missouri and Auburn. How so you think Vandy would so against those teams? We already know that Mizzou blew them out.

Don't take your foot off their throat Butch. If you're winning by 40 in the 4th, throw it. If you score, go for 2. Embarrass them. Make them realize, they are still Vandy.

I have no qualms about blowing them out, but at least stay above their low level. Don't descend to being @$$holes just because the opposing coach is one.

Not really. Matthews' ranking was hurt by something that plagued him early and still causes him issues. He drops passes.

He has played well within the system and was at times the only real option Vandy had for anything like a "big play".

AJ finished as the SEC's top tackler in '12. UT's D was dead last in the SEC. Sometimes an individual's stats are enhanced by playing on a bad team.

Sorry to answer for Larry but the answer is simply this. UT did not execute. The D was out of position. Critical passes were dropped. The OL failed at critical times repeatedly. The QB could not finish drives. The RB play was not "great". DB's missed assignments. Tacklers were CONSTANTLY out of position. DL's are being driven off the LOS. No penetration from the DL or pressure on the passer. LB's alternately over/under ran plays. NO ONE was good at gap and lane discipline on D. D playcalling and schemes were questionable at best.

Those things have very, very little to do with who you are playing. A team can execute and still just get physically beaten. This team has not executed well in the last 3 games.

I'm posting my first time - Vol fan since 1972 (watching Condredge Holloway). Born and raised in North Alabama in the Heart of RTR.
So after all of the above discussion - 50% chance of a wet field - does that favor either team?

welcome to VN! remember condredge's 2 point conversion against clemson?

as to the OP ......

this is a crucial point in the CBJ era. his system is no longer "new" to the team, the best option at QB is in place, he has what has been dubbed the best O line in the conference/country (take your pick), he has more talent and speed than the next two opponents, and he has had two weeks to prepare.

it is time to wax Candy and Kensucky, win a bowl game, sign a top 5 recruiting class, and keep building momentum.

alternatively, a loss to Candy could segue into a loss to Kensucky and the first 4 win season in history, begetting a further decline in season ticket renewals (already at an all time low for 2013), decommits and loss of top 10 ranking for the recruiting class, and ...... well, that's enough. let's just pull for option #1.
