Spread does not mean 4 wideouts. Rich Rod is a master of the spread and he rarely uses 4 wideouts. Hawaii runs a fun and gun type offense where they "spread" it out and in their case use 4 wide. Ole Miss didn't run 4 wide out there and he couldn't stop that either. Considering I lived my entire life 2 hrs from Tampa I've seen plenty of Monte and he has struggled at times. His last game against Carolina, TB was embarrassed! And please tell me who runs a spread in the NFL? I'd say NOLA is close and maybe Indy lately since their run game is pitiful.

Point being, anything that is unconventional Monte struggles...I.e. Auburn, Ole Miss, Hawaii compared to Bama, UCLA, UGA.

The Spread is the most generic term in the world.

Half the NFL runs the same combination of plays with different terminology and eye candy. Look around the NFL and all you see is coaching incest -- 95% of the teams run Erhardt-Perkins, Coryell digit, or WCO.

You occasionally get differences, but not many.

Fun N Gun doesn't count as the Run N Shoot -- these same plays were ran in Houston and Atlanta nearly 20 years ago. JJ stopped using all of the motioning that Mouse did and changed the blocking scheme. Run N Shoot has always been a tough offense to stop, but came up short because the blocking schemes were so bad, and a good amount of the shoot teams had notoriously bad defenses.

The Monte anger @ the USC camp is not surprising, but only a hand full of teams run the shoot period, so I wouldn't doubt Monte.

USC just better be glad that they didn't schedule SMU.

USC will have to improve alot to finish in the Pac 10 top 3. That isn't the best O they will face and not everyone they play will completely lack a defense.

Considering the personality and style differences between him and Carroll, he could have more difficulty getting USC's players to buy into his system than he did UT's.

All the ESPN headlines on ESPN.com are saying how USC ripped Hawaii and Kiffin in debut triumph...the team gave up 36 points to Hawaii! Plus Hawaii had 588 total yards over USC's 524...plus like you guys are saying, USC didn't cover the spread. Tell me how that was a TRIUMPH other than that USC won the damn game.

I guess "triumph" can mean "win"...but I think it's a too strong of a word to use there.

"It's huge for our whole team, for coach Kiffin, for the program, for all of the guys, it's big time," Barkley said. "It's awesome, but it's just a start."

big time win where you gave up over a third of a mile to Hawaii's offense? Yep we're all impressed.

And ESPN's headline for the recap is a little ridiculous

Yall knew that the Media was going to stroke that SC ego. We all saw what the old man can do. If the Pistol screws your universe that badly, there is something to be concerned about. However, I still think they'll be good.

Lane being Lane in his postgame comments were priceless btw.

They could lose to any of the following based on their performance tonight:

Washington
Oregon
Cal
Stanford
Notre Dame
Oregon State
UCLA

Lane will leave the entire sports world double face palming him after this season when he becomes the first person to fire his father! lol

So we have an announcement tac board in our break room at work...here's what we think of ole Kiff...
