Figured that out. He's not the Childress they were talking about though. That was a sheriff. Did we ever see Sheriff Childress?
Technically in the story there are two Sheriff Childress', one was the sheriff of Rust and Marty's department BEFORE 1995, and then his relative, the new Sheriff Childress that they took hostage on the boat. I believe we saw him before earlier in the season when he hadn't been promoted yet. Another childress you might have missed was one of the officers on duty the night the tweaker killed himself in jail, no doubt another family member doing the Tuttle's bidding.
I don't think the guy on the boats name was Childress.
The yellow king will end up being a character we haven't seen on the show before. The lawnmower man could be in with the bad guys but I'm thinking he's just the creepy dude the audience is supposed to be suspicious of.

Also didn't we see the Sheriff Childress that we are all talking about in a flashback in episode 1 or 2. It was when they first talked about the Marie Fontenot disappearance.
They said before the show started that none of the actors would be back in season 2. It would be like American Horror Story, but without the actors returning. Not sure why Rolling Stone acting like that is news now (well trying to get more press out of their Oscar coverage).
Great article that tells you where the idea of the story came from (based on a true story), and it seems like a lot of the series was meta-fiction
How True Detective Will End
MM has always been a great actor (see him in early roles like Lone Star and Contact). He just made some really stupid choices in picking movies over the years (anything that was a romantic comedy). That said I had given up on him until the Dallas Buyers Club.
Where did you find that?
I went to dinner last night with a friend and his girlfriend. Here is part of our conversation.
Me: Are you guys caught up on True Detective? Sucks that the last show is Sunday.
My Friend: I think we are a couple shows behind. But honestly I think the show is boring as sh!t so far. Very slow and hard to get into.
I was speechless. Questioning whether we can remain friends after such mindless blabber.

In defense of those people that find the show boring/slow, I can see where they are coming from. If you take an audience that normally watches shows like Breaking Bad, Justified, Banshee, The Walking Dead, hell even some of the network shows like Castle, The Blacklist and sit them in front of True Detective it's just a different type of show. It's a great show but even I'll admit some of the earlier episodes were just slow. This type of show is very heavy on writing, story line, character development and just fantastic acting.
This format(spending an entire season of a show on one case) was also done on the AMC show The Killing.
I would say fans of Mad Men, The Wire, The Sopranos, Carnivale, Deadwood, and Treme have the perfect temperament for True Detective. That said someone who thinks shows like Walking Dead, Dexter, and Sons of Anarchy (I would also include some House of Cards fans in this group too) are the best on TV not so much. I do disagree with you about Breaking Bad viewers. Maybe the ones that came on late just for the hype, but the real Breaking Bad fans (who been there since day 1) should enjoy this.
Still despite having issues with getting my friends into shows like Mad Men or The Wire all of them are into True Detective. So I think True Detective might be a show like Breaking Bad that can cross over to different groups.
You have to watch it with focus and attention. That's what makes it fun. If you are on your phone or whatever and half ass watching, it wouldn't be fun.
