Head to head , I am taking Bama against Georgia

I hate Georgia more than any other team, but this is one of the best defenses in college football history. I don't see anyone beating Georgia right now. And even if Bama can pull it off in the SECCG, they will likely have to pull it off twice to stop Georgia from winning the national title.
Couldn't agree more. All those stock piled recruiting classes. And whats lost is the strength coach for Saban was so loyal and yet he finally jumped ship to UGA and now the Georgia roster is the one that looks like full of NFL players.

One of the other will win it all. They probably will play for the national Championship
Bama might have to beat UGA in the SEC Championship for that to happen. A 2-loss Bama probably doesn’t make it, although a little more chaos and they easily could.

Like the late Rush Limbaugh used to say, I try to live in Realville, and the fact is, in getting ready to play UGA I thought it best to try and look at their strengths and weaknesses honestly so I'd know what to expect. I prefer to try to look at things honestly so I'm not surprised, for example last week a bunch of people were saying Stetson Bennett was slow and would not be a threat to run on us. Having seen him move pretty quickly in the pocket before I did some internet research and found some pretty convincing documentation that he runs a 4.5. Therefore, I was not caught off guard by what he did yesterday with his feet (and I was more impressed by Byron Young corraling him than l otherwise would have been). While we are talking emotion though, I can't believe the number of Vol fans looking to Bama to grant them revenge, I was raised to hate them first and foremost. I guess it's a generational thing though since I'm probably older than most on here.
Anyone who thought Bennett was slow hasn’t watched him play. No one will mistake him for Michael Vick running around but Bennett is a quick little booger.

Let’s see.....hmmmm.....considers......ponders.......

Nope. Honestly don’t GAF. I tried.

The fact that uga fans post here desperately seeking affirmation and praise merely confirms my opinion.

I respect Bama and UF because the programs have a culture. They have a tradition, especially Bama. And by and large their fans aren’t like freaking labradors always wanting praise and attention.

uga has none of the tradition and culture, and nothing but labradors for fans. Here you are, seeking acceptance and praise.

My view is confirmed with every uga fan post.

“Tradition”

UGA is UF’s daddy. They were better than us for 20 years but we have owned them head to head from day one.

“Culture”

(Insert eye roll here)

Yeah, Gainesville aka Hog Town is a cultural mecca.

I expected better from you.

Yes, Gators do have a MASSIVE inferiority complex.

Enjoy your Goff years.

Wow. Every post just proves my point.

uga fans desperately shout: "NOTICE ME!! PRAISE UGA!!!"

Bama fans and Gator fans, as obnoxious as they can be at times, don't do that. That is a big difference.

Sad, really.

UGA is UF's daddy? UGA has only a 9 or 10 game lead (depending on whose count you pick) in a matchup that has been played 100 times, and in the modern era of the sport (post-integration) UF has the upper hand. Even when you include Dooley's dominance in the series in the 70s and 80s. Post-integration, UF is the better program, and especially since 1990 UF is the better program.

I certainly wouldn't say that UGA has no tradition or culture (especially culture; Athens is about as culturally-rich of a little town you'll see). I would say that for a program of its caliber, UGA is kind of lacking in terms of hardware, particularly in terms of national titles and conference titles.

UGA should probably have more hardware than a program like Tennessee, but for whatever reason you don't, and that's with Tennessee being a black hole of suck for the last decade plus.

That’s what happens when every single rival you have, yes even Georgia Tech, has a National Title more recently than you. Auburn X2, Florida x3, Vols X1, GT x1, Clemson 2 I think. Not to mention schools in bordering states, Bama, FSU and Miami.
It's actually crazy to think Tech has a National Championship more recently than Georgia, but it's true...There are probably kids in high school right now who call members of Georgia's one and only National Championship team "Paw Paw".

Not just Georgia Tech, but BYU, Colorado, and Washington.

Unfortunately it might end this year, but for a program like them to have a drought for that long is amazing. If you look at things like demographics, location, etc. UGA really should be the most successful football program in the SEC, not Alabama or someone else. They should have dominant basketball and baseball programs as well, but they've never been great at those sports.

I think Kirby has the same complex around his daddy Nick that Phil had with Spurrier. If he has to play Nick twice he won’t win both. But UGA does have a better roster this year.

Maybe if you’re going off of recency bias. It’s not like Atlanta was always what it is today. Ignoring that, if you look at win loss records for SEC teams since 2000, where do you think UGA would rank?

Atlanta and the Metro Atlanta area has always been a bigger deal than Tuscaloosa/Birmingham area, I know that.

Since 2000, I'd imagine UGA is right up there with the best of the SEC in terms of win/loss record, perhaps the best.

EDIT: It looks like you're 3rd, behind Alabama and LSU.

Multiple SEC schools are in talent rich states though. UF has Florida and LSU has Louisiana. Honestly, location probably mattered more in the past. With technology as it is, kids can stay connected with friends and family easier than ever.

I agree that it’s odd UGA doesn’t have more championships from 2000 on, 90’s UGA was awful. Still, they’ve been one of the more consistent programs in the nation from the Richt era to now.

UF has to fight with 2 other in-state schools who have also been good at football for those recruits.

The most comparable situation to UGA's is LSU's (UGA's talent pool is even bigger though), and LSU has won 3 national titles and played for another since 2000.

GT is a bigger school than any LSU has to compete with in Louisiana. Auburn is also just as far from Atlanta as UGA is if we’re still going with location as the main factor. Anyway, I don’t think recruiting has been the main obstacle for UGA. The main road block for UGA has been Saban. The main years UGA would’ve competed, Saban’s had the better team. Whether it was 2012 in what was essentially a play in game in the SECC or the actual NC in 2017. Unfortunately for UGA, they decided to try and be good when the GOAT was in the middle of his dynasty.

UGA and GT are recruiting the same players? Come on man. Neither UGA or LSU have any in-state competition for the players they want.

I’m sure GT would love to get the recruits UGA is after and they at least try. GT got Calvin Johnson who UGA was after. I also think you’re discounting how close the other SEC schools are to Atlanta. Auburn is the same distance from Atlanta as UGA is. Bama is only a 3 hour drive away. Tennessee is 3 and a half hours. The Florida schools are actually closer to recruits in South Georgia than UGA.

Like I said, I’m sure location was an issue in the past, but I just don’t think a player is gonna turn down a school these days because it’s an hour and half longer of a drive than the in state school.

There is still a lot of value that people assign to staying within the same state. The only reason UT has a shot at Memphis kids is because Memphis is in Tennessee. If the border of Tennessee was further north and Memphis was in Mississippi, that probably wouldn't even be seen as a territory for UT to even come in there and recruit. UGA still gets a lot of south Georgia kids, more than UF and FSU get, because they live in, well, Georgia.

Athens is only 45 minutes away from the eastern part of Metro Atlanta, which is full of talent. Those kids grow up living and playing in the State of Georgia, with the major state university less than an hour away. No, Auburn is not far away, but those kids don't grow up exposed to Auburn like they are exposed to UGA.

Atlanta is a transplant city. I’d agree about recruits from Athens being inundated with Georgia fans, but not Atlanta. Atlanta is pretty varied when it comes to fanbases. You’ll find tons of auburn, Bama, Tennessee, Clemson, and UF fans.
