Heisman Trophy

Caleb Williams had 400 passing yards and 5 touchdowns with 0 interceptions and 50 rushing yards in the loss to Utah.

Hooker laid an egg and didn’t throw a single touchdown in the loss to Georgia.
Fair enough answer, and at least it's an answer. The other guy was just saying if you lose you're out, and that's incorrect.

Others have added to their stats, their wins and everything in between.

Hooker went down. His team was losing badly and lost badly. He has no chance to add anything to his resume, while others did and some will continue next week and even into the bowl.

While voting will end, those players will still be guiding their teams.

Hooker might get an invite however he won’t win. If he were miles ahead when he went down and Tennessee has beaten SC maybe…….but that wasn’t the case. In fact at the time he was 2nd in the odds.

Not going to go from 2nd in the odds to winning with no chance of playing further.

Two reasons OP. 1.He's a Vol 2.There is no award for potential

That said, the sooner you learn that it is a corrupt media popularity award, the better. The only reason I wanted HH to win was for the $$$ that would come his way. There is almost nothing objective about it . Nearly pure hype.

Your point? One player had extraordinary numbers in a 1 point loss whereas the other player **** the bed in what was essentially a blowout.

Utah doesn’t play defense, Georgia has the best defense in the country, but yeah, act like those are the same thing.

USC played 0 good defenses this year.

Yeah I wouldn’t say that, but in the playoff format era you pretty much have to play on a team that makes the cut. Tennessee getting that second loss to South Carolina essentially sealed the deal, regardless if Hooker had gotten hurt or not.

Both losses and one was to the top team in the county. The other blew chunks against sun belt Billy. Stroud put up lots of numbers against subpar teams as well. HH didn't get those

So you’re essentially saying that any players outside of the SEC shouldn’t get the award because they don’t play elite defenses on a weekly basis?

That's a fair point as well, heck, Florida beat Utah. I sincerely don't think the voters look at body of work, as much as it's a popularity contest. A few weeks ago all the commentators were talking Stroud and Hooker, that was the two guys everyone said were going to win. Now that USC is in the playoff mix, and an old media darling, their QB suddenly is the favorite.

Williams is the favorite because Stroud had two interceptions in a game in which his team got destroyed over the weekend. The voters don’t care that he went up against a great defense, only that a) they lost and b) he didn’t have a clean game. Same as with Hooker after the losses to Georgia and SC.

When did the Heisman become a single elimination award?
I guess when Peyton didn't win it as a Jr. when we were told it was a career achievement award. Then his Sr loss happened and the media said it was awarded based only on winning the big games, with losing to UF being a disqualifier.

Both Blake Corum and Hendon Hooker should be in the Top 3!

My best guess is that the USCe game probably singlehandedly cost Hooker the ESPN Hypesman Award.

Explain "keeping it real". Because he lost two games? Seems like rg3 had 3 losses when he won the Heisman. Plenty of other winners where their team had losses. So why should Hooker be punished for a loss, and not then, when it's an award for individuals.

Because the Heisman is now a ESPN Popularity contest now. Once you fall out favor, you are done. Kinda like McCaffrey should've won over Henry. Alabama more popular than Stanford. If McCaffrey would've played for USC or UCLA that year. He easily wins the trophy

Someone recommended Kirby Smart....................what a joke. He inherited on of the most prolific teams in America. A state where he does not have to leave his backyard to recruit ! No thanks, I consider this recommend as bull shitzz !

Don't they typically invite four?
If so, it'll be Hooker, Corum, Williams, and either Stroud or Maye.
Williams will win.

Someone needs to explain to me why a guy who was among the 2-3 favorites all season, put up ridiculous numbers, was instrumental in resurrecting a football program, and missed only one game is now eliminated from consideration because he suffered an injury. If Hendon Hooker doesn't at the very least get an invite to NYC the whole thing is a complete joke.

Who gets to go to New York? Caleb Williams, okay, he's your winner at this point. But who beyond that? The kid from North Carolina? The TCU QB? I mean, seriously, is there anyone that would have touched Hooker had he not gotten hurt? And yet I keep reading that he 'lost his Heisman chance' with the injury. Ridiculous.

I agree wholeheartedly but if you didn't know they Heisman was a complete joke after Manning was snubbed for Woodson then I don't know what to tell you.

That would make sense if it wasn't for what I stated in my post. Just trying to understand the logic, how come it only applies to Hooker, or Stroud, but nobody else in the history of the Heisman?
I’d say because every Heisman race is unique. Don’t think trying to compare RG3 or Johnny Manziel to Hooker is quite apples to apples, though everyone loves to cherry-pick anomalies to bolster arguments. Take off the orange glasses and it’s fair to say Hooker was 80% done after the Georgia game. Had he beaten USC and not gotten hurt, all things stay the same with Stroud and OSU, and Caleb Williams not beat UCLA the way he did he likely pulls it off.

I think he’ll get an invite. It’s clear Williams that will win though.
I’d be really surprised if he got an invite. It’d be great and he deserves it but everyone outside of UT fans have basically forgotten him already. Stroud and Williams take two spots. The other two likely to be Duggan and Stetson Bennett 🤢🤮. And I’d expect them to rush Bryce Young into the race before inviting an injured Hendon coming off USC and not far removed from UGA.

So to use your own stupid logic, Shroud is automatically out as well correct? Caleb Williams is out too, right? Only players from undefeated teams are allowed to win the trophy, correct?
Just because you start arguing sarcastically in black and white doesn’t mean he ever made the argument “any loss disqualifies you from winning a Heisman trophy. “ He said Hooker had mostly lost his shot at the trophy with the UGA game. He’s right. Just how the cookie crumbled this year. He had no big games left to make a climb back to number one and stroud seemed in control. Turns out OSU chokes but Caleb Williams is on fire. If UT had been looking ahead to a conference championship game then the outlook may have been better after the UGA game.
