Hendon Hooker is the best Tennessee quarterback since …

I agree . I think Hooker is a much more polished thrower than Dobbs. He definitely throws a prettier ball. One thing that Dobbs definitely did/does better is avoiding the big hit. I don’t recall Dobbs ever taking a big shot, while I can think multiple big hits that HH has taken that were avoidable.
Shot to the ribs vs appy state was a rough one🤣 but yes you're right he found a way where the hits wasn't that bad atleast from our view

Thanks for clarifying your subjective opinion and countering something no one said.
Just saying that we’re not ignoring him. He made some key plays, but statistically or otherwise, he’s probably down the list as far as all time QBs. Probably had one of the top 2 or 3 arms we’ve ever had and was as tough as they come though.

Hooker is probably going finish with around 2,000 more yards than Tee Martin. That’s not a shot at Tee. That’s just illustrating how crazy good Hooker is.

It’s the “otherwise” part I disagree with. He called and made several plays that won games. His 4th quarter performances at Syracuse and against Florida won the games, and his TD run and pass to PP were crucial vs Arkansas. Look at the rankings of the teams we played that year, and the rankings of the defenses. It was a real gauntlet. Cutcliffe used to say Tee was great because he didn’t know what he didn’t know. He made mistakes, bounced back won games, and never doubted himself. A qb who doesn’t know how to lose is a thing I’ll take over a stat line anytime.

I’d disagree. I think there have been guys with more pure talent whom Hooker surpasses because his mental game is so strong. He’s a good runner, but Bray, Peyton, and possibly Ainge were more gifted arm wise, and Dobbs was a better athlete. Not saying he surpasses Peyton, just that as an example.
Hook, like Condredge was, is a real threat. His level of play is rarely seen. And to mention Ainge? That guy was almost as bad at reading his secondary as Shuler.

Dobbs was simply faster and more fluid and elusive in the open field than Hooker. Maybe this is just my perception but I feel like Hooker is a bit less agile and as a result defenders have been able to square him up for big hits a few times. He’s definitely a step slower at 4.96 in the 40 vs Dobbs’ 4.64.

I don’t mean to say he doesn’t add a ton of value as a runner, I just think Dobbs was an exceptionally good running quarterback. Hooker still has great instincts to feel and escape pressure in the pocket and he has above average straight line speed and acceleration.
he definitely has better than a 4.9 40

That was the only one I could actually think of. Thank goodness we recovered tha fumble. Dobbs just had a way of contorting himself where he didn’t take the big hits. I feel like Hooker does the opposite too often. He has to protect himself in the open field .

Agree really it’s Hendon’s only “weakness”. When he gets hit hard especially from blind side he fumbles a lot

Pedestrian LMFAOO

Check his stats. Smh. And he set a school record for pass completions without a pick.

You have to be joking or too young to have watched him if you think he was pedestrian.

Check his stats? Ok.

Tee 1998

57% 2164 yards 8.1 Y/A 19 TDs 6 INTs 144.4 RTG

Just for reference let’s look at JGs best year 2019.

59% 2158 yards 8.4 Y/A 16 TDs 8 INTs 144 RTG

Sorry but the actual stats say that Tee was a below average QB.

Josh had to deal with alot of $hit he shouldnt have due to BJ's insecure personality disorders. He, Barnett, Kamara, etc held that team together thru that mess. Tennessee should have fired Jones after the bowl game due to coaching malpractice......
Players mean so much, but coaches are fallible roo

Tee Martin is special in peoples mind but he was average at Qb to good at times. Go back and watch the games. We ran the ball a lot and relied on defense. He could throw a deep ball and had some good games but we didn’t rely on airing it out. Maybe he could have been better if so.

On to second the "ever."

But not likely to have the pro chops of manning, but who knows.
Im serious about it too. Hooker is almost undoubtedly unlikely to have half the pro career manning had, but Manning does not win a game like this. Hooker has just enough legs to make him impossible to stop in college.

There is no “since” anymore. Hendon Hooker is the best QB we’ve ever had. We have no defense. He has to do it all himself with the WRs. We’ve never had better. This team should be nowhere near this good. These guys have done it without our #1 All American WR. Anything that happens next is a bonus to enhance his legacy.

Build him a statue.

Very few do. Manning is on a short list for best pro qbs ever. HH has the mental makeup and well balanced skill set to make it in the league imo though. He doesn’t really have a weakness.

Since PM.... Not even close. The ball placement is far superior to Dobbs. Runs as good or better than Dobbs or Tee. Dude is a beast. Now the system is very QB friendly but don't let that get in the way of how good Hendon is.

Fill in the blank.

I’m going to say Casey Clausen. Loved Josh Dobbs and frankly wished my daughter had married him instead of the guy she’s with now but Hooker is an elite passer and not far behind Dobbs in running ability. Iceman is still ahead though … at least for now.
Best QB since Manning.
