Well, some of us don't care if our coaches and their wives are orange, green, blue, yellow, red, black, or white as long as we win. We can't say that for everyone, and the fact that the only jobs many black coaches are getting are outcast graveyard schools I think it's pretty clear where the hiring preference lies. Sylvester Croom falls into the graveyard category because even though he took over an SEC team they were under sanctions, and I mean...it's Miss State.
So now the ante has been upped to where the black applicant must have a job at a top twenty program?

Try joining the real world.

Maybe you should. I dont think there are cases where a less qualified person is hired because of color. Maybe they are even, but there are no minorities there so he gets the nod. But a more qualified white candidates is not being overlooked in the sake of diversity. You need to get real.

You are wrong. Period. End of story.

Most every major corporation has diversity hiring quotas. They will and do (at times) hire and promote based on race over who is actually better qualified. That is wrong regardless of the race in question.

i go by the old quote "those who can't, coach." Think about it, you will get it.

Those that can play, play. Those that cannot play, coach.

Hence the reason I plan to launch my coaching career sometime after I graduate from college.

I guess you live in fantasy land with that drug addict Rush limbaugh because if you think MORE qualified white men are being passed over for minorities you are clueless. But im not going to go back and forth with an ignorant person so just believe what you believe.

I never quantified anything. I said it happens.

You on the other hand said you didn't believe there were "cases" of it happening.

Any way, I think just based on the numbers of black coaches in D-1 as compared to every other coach, and the number of black players, that as far as the NCAA and football are concerned there isn't a quota. I'm a best man for the job kind of person, but it isn't hard to see that most black coaches are shunned to poor situations or lesser colleges.

then i'm ignorant too cause i've seen it happen a bunch - not just race based, but gender based also. now does it rise to the level of the systematic and historic discrimination in the other direction? i don't think so and i don't think your sparring partner claimed this either.

Unfortunately, this has merit. There's a lot of old money boosters at southern schools that are pale that might tolerate a black HC, but when the press conference airs, and the black HC stands there with a white woman, and God forbid gives her a kiss...

Why do people call southern schools racist when Michigan, Minnesota, Cincinnati, West Virginia, UCLA, Washington all hired coaches in the last couple of years and none of them hired an African American with a white spouse?

The race card only applies to the south and not in the racial north and west.

I know for an absolute fact it happens at medical schools all over the nation right now.

For instance a particular top tier medical school had a minimum MCAT requirement for an AA female of 8's, but a white male had to have 15's (perfect score), white female was around 12's.

It was straight quota so that white males with 14's (total score of 42) were rejected so that they could accept AA females with 8's (total of 24).

So yes, plenty of times more qualified white males are passed over in order to promote less qualified AA applicants, and that's for medical school where you would think you would want the best and brightest regardless of color, but obviously not.

Of course this just breeds resentment for the smart AA's that got in on merit instead of a quota, they get pissed because it is assumed that they need extra help etc. But that's the double edged sword that is Affirmative Action.

I love how this is Rush Limbaugh's fault or that he had something to do with Charlie Strong not getting a job.

He will get a shot but from what I hear he is wanting the best job to start and not a job that might not be the top teir...You have to start somewhere and if HC is what you want then you need to put your name out there everywhere and not just at a top teir program...He is a hell of a coach and would love to have him here but we have Kiff now
You mean like how Richt and Bob Stoopes started out? :ermm:

I saw this article too. It makes me sad to think that he would be passed over because his wife is white. However, has he applied to any jobs up North or out West if he feels he will not get a fair shot at Southern schools?

I thought the same thing when I read the article. I might see that happening in the south but no one from the west coast nor the mid west has knocked on his door. It will continue to be an issue that won't go away.

I don't think race has anything to do with the HC hires in college football. If anything a black person may have a better chance because of race.
If this talk keeps up the gov't will end up getting involved and force schools to at least interview someone from every racial group and maybe even women.

What is the breakdown of black players in the NFL? My guess is 60% or more.
If we continue this ridiculous talk then the NFL may be a social experiment and you will see 75% white players.

Does anyone think that would be right?
I don't.

Face it the south is notorious for the good ole boy racist network that some tend to either turn a deaf ear to or wave their rebel flag to and say that is not true. If you think that statement is wrong I challenge to go out on the town with a woman that is african american and see how you feel afterwards. I will assure you will come away with a new respect for the challenge african americans go thru each day.

Yeah, obviously, because the number of black head coaches has been cut in half the last ten years.

Its amazing how people just want to disregard the facts.

Do that in Atlanta and no head will turn. Then do the same in Boston or Philly or any number of northern cities that I can name you. I am sure you will be embraced.
