A coach's quality is best exhibited in times of adversity. It's easy to look smart when everything is going your way. Charlotte isn't anything special. If you can't rally the remaining roster and beat them, you shouldn't be making more than Jim Calhoun.

In the category of "blessing in disguise": Pearl's going to play a lot of Kenny Hall, whether he likes it or not. And I imagine Josh Bone will get 10-15 minutes, as well. We need to see what we have with those two, anyway.

Bone wasn't good enough to take minutes from Goins. That should tell you something.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but interesting post from Scotty Hopson..... Will be interesting to see if he steps up against Kansas!

"This is a chance for me to step up and lead this team like people have been wanting me to do."

And Bobby Maze also added this:

"We've played a lot of good teams that only rotated 6 or 7 guys. If we do our jobs, we'll be fine."

Oh, don't be such a nattering nabob of negativity. Give Pearl and the Vols a chance before projecting doom and gloom. Nothing is a forgone conclusion. I'll view the proverbial glass as half full until I have reason to believe otherwise. Go Vols!

No, I'm concerned about results. A Big Mac is fine, unless you pay Smith & Wollensky prices for it.

He has produced, not to your standards though...I do understand where you are coming from though...but you are very biased in your opinions.

He is being paid quite a bit more than JGreen, for JGreen results.

I didn't know we got to 2 Sweet 16's and a number 1 ranking ( brief I know ). Making it to the conference championship game( not something to really brag about but when your UT, it kinda is ).

Better than Green, the comparison isn't fair.

You're right. It's terribly negative to expect someone to perform at a level commensurate with their pay. Great point.

He's being paid what the market felt he can be paid. He's being paid what the administration felt he deserved based on prior performance. Heaven forbid he accept what is offered to him.

The Univ of Iowa has the 8th highest paid football coach in America and up until recently he was paid higher than Mack Brown at Texas and up until very recently was about the 4th highest paid in the country. He's paid that amount because that's what the administration felt he deserved. It's not because he was finishing in the top 4 every year. He is paid what the Univ of Iowa felt they should pay him to retain him. They feel (as do almost all of the fans, myself included) he deserves every penny. The majority of Tennessee fans who don't have blind hatred understand this is how it works as well.

You can't just compare someone's pay to another coach at another institution, it's not as simple as that. Of course this is always the first thing message board folk throw out there when times get a little tough.

Pearl leveraged a fake offer from Memphis, don't act like he's doing us a favor by taking whatever we gave him.

He's being paid what the University felt he should be paid at the time and were willing to play.

I'm not sure what you're saying here.

Hat said, "Here's Where You Earn Your $2 Mil Plus. A coach's quality is best exhibited in times of adversity….".

You took exception to that. What should our expectations be?

My apologies, wasn't sure what you were referring to when you wrote that.

I agree that this is one of those times where a coach earns his money, no doubt about that. I take exception to individuals who throw out a coach's salary, how it ranks nationally, and where they think their win total should be based on that amount. It's far from that simple.
