I keep posting this . . . The GOP is in the exact same situation that the Democrats were in back in 1991. People always want the "savior" candidate but there really hasn't been one since Reagan.
Two problems with that.
One, the GOP is itself divided over what its savior would look like -- strictly fiscal conservative or social policy agenda. Not that they are mutually exclusive, but the fiscal conservatives would happily sacrifice the values platform for more votes from the independents and sort of view the moral majority crowd as a bit of an anchor on achieving what to them is a much more significant priority.
Second, the GOP hasn't offered up anyone really even just basically charismatic besides maybe Palin and she's a train wreck.
values platform is far more back burner than you like to believe. Values is much more prevalent on the left, where the politics of individuality can be dominant.
It is for you because you are in the fiscal conservative camp.
Go talk to standard GOP voters in Alabama, Utah, Iowa, and may other places and see if you don't find a bit more emphasis on things like abortion, homosexuals' rights, and that kind of stuff than maybe you would place on them.

On point one - are you completely devoid of Dem history? The same type division has always existed when the Dems are trying to displace an R incumbent
