[ ] Cain is a legitimate contender who has a real shot to win the GOP nomination

[X] The Republican POTUS field is so weak and boring this year that this guy is getting lots of attention which will quickly fade when its time to start counting actual primary votes

Obama now has roughly 2 years of experience at the helm and the Dem ticket is still extraordinarily weak.

If Paul weren't a moonbat or if Cain could temper the theatrics, this could be a cakewalk. It's high time for an outsider or third party to change the dick dance.

I keep posting this . . . The GOP is in the exact same situation that the Democrats were in back in 1991. People always want the "savior" candidate but there really hasn't been one since Reagan.

Two problems with that.

One, the GOP is itself divided over what its savior would look like -- strictly fiscal conservative or social policy agenda. Not that they are mutually exclusive, but the fiscal conservatives would happily sacrifice the values platform for more votes from the independents and sort of view the moral majority crowd as a bit of an anchor on achieving what to them is a much more significant priority.

Second, the GOP hasn't offered up anyone really even just basically charismatic besides maybe Palin and she's a train wreck.

values platform is far more back burner than you like to believe. Values is much more prevalent on the left, where the politics of individuality can be dominant.

i agree teh GOP has problems finding charismatic candidates, but who doesn't? in my lifetime i can count 3 charismatic presidents: reagan, clinton, and obama. also zero who didn't win the nomination (mccain, kerry, gore, all duds).

It is for you because you are in the fiscal conservative camp.

Go talk to standard GOP voters in Alabama, Utah, Iowa, and may other places and see if you don't find a bit more emphasis on things like abortion, homosexuals' rights, and that kind of stuff than maybe you would place on them.

Anyway we can put more emphasis on reducing the rights of African-Americans?

On point one - are you completely devoid of Dem history? The same type division has always existed when the Dems are trying to displace an R incumbent

Good point. But as it stands, its the best thing to talk about for the left, the fact that history is repeating itself is worth being called out for considering the alternative.

Obama is on the other side of the fence now. Campaign slogans are cool when there is nothing to gauge them by.

Refusing to talk about security and foreign policy is not going to cut it.....especially when Obama has the Bin Laden trump card.

I think I know what he's saying but you can't say that.

He's doing what he always does...telling the truth. But I agree that he needs to articulate his general philosophy while acknowledging how completely pie in the sky it is to play armchair CIC.

being new and shiny is a great way to get elected. see obama.

Obama gave a great speech at the 2004 convention. He was on the radar as a possible candidate immediately after the 04 convention. Still relatively new, but not nearly as new as Cain
