Starting Early?
Worst defense performance since 1893. Playoffs gone. NY6 bowl probably gone. Loss to a clearly inferior team, coach, and program to an extent that it’s not simply having a bad game. What am I missing there?

His team had a playoff berth on the line and they played not only the worst they’ve played all year but the worst any defense has played since 1893. Part of that is coaching and having your guys ready.
I'm not arguing that. To claim he's lost the team, and we're going to suck forever now is a bit silly though. I get it, I'm mad. Heck, I'm freaking sick about it sadly, cause I'm surrounded by freaking Georgia fans who have messaged me all night with overrated, and you can't defend that loss. That said, I don't think the coach has "lost" the team. Win Saturday, and we're at 10-2, and I'd guarantee you didn't predict that preseason.

Since 2005 this series is tied at 9 wins a piece for South Carolina and Tennessee so this has been a dead even series going back and forth with no team having more than a 3 game win streak so I guess the lost last night shouldn’t be too surprising but it was the way we lost that was concerning.

I agree the schemes we tried didn’t work and the defense wasn't ready to play, but for the first time since CJH has been coaching here, this team, particularly the defense, quit. SC hit us in the mouth and we didn’t want any part of it. I’m not sure we wanted it even before they hit us in the mouth. And Hadden needs to grow a pair, cover and tackle someone, and shut his mouth.

Again, every knowledgeable Tennessee fan knew the defense was going to be weak the last 2 years. We knew this going into his first year. They had their hands tied recruiting last yr due to the limitations on scholly #s.

The defense struggled to stop Mizzou last week until the crowd got into it in the 3rd Qtr. and forced some false start penalties. Didn’t have that luxury this week.

The recruiting class coming is full of outstanding defensive players. I think “that boy” knows about defense.
Dude STFU, we just gave up 63 to one of the 3-4 worst offenses in the league. The defense was never supposed to be that bad. SCar couldn’t score 63 on air up until last night.

I guess Saban is worse than Heupel then. So is Kelly. Come on, I get that it stings but this is a stupid take.
Which team had the worst defensive performance put on them in school history? No excuses for being that unprepared and dropping the ball when a playoff berth is on the line. He’s now 1-1 vs what we believe is a lesser coach. Is he on the same level as Beamer? Probably not, but USC has much worse talent, history, and resources but has managed to pull together back to back bowl berths with this year including a top 5 win as an unranked in a program worst beatdown and both guys shared Coach of the Year last year. Heupel doesn’t have a win that significant as an unranked vs a ranked. His win likely cost our guy that title this year. Either we have to move Beamer out of the garbage coach category or admit our guy has a huge red flag in that he laid one of the worst performances all time in a lay up game with everything on the line. Neither scenario is pretty.

Thank you for being the voice of reason.

You just need to stop posting with the emotion of a teenage girl. You’re completely overreacting. We knew our D talent was crap. We’ve way over performed this year. The Vegas o/u was what, about 7 wins? Yes, we had a terrible game. When you have a super weak secondary like we have, add a QB playing the game of his life (some of his throws were absolutely ridiculous), go in the road in the SEC and it can certainly happen. This is year 2 and we are still way ahead of schedule. A lot of people actually predicted we would lose this game before the year started. Granted, at this point I don’t think anyone saw it coming based on how the year has played out but 21-pt upsets happen all the time in college football. The wheels aren’t falling off and the sky isn’t falling. Let’s just beat Vandy, hopefully get Milton ready for next year and maybe we can finish with 11 wins still. This staff has still done a great job overall this year. Last night doesn’t change that.

I dont think they quit, defense got frustrated and righfully so, they couldnt stop anything and that wasnt from not trying they just got outplayed and out coached and at some point it sets in that there is nothing you can do to stop it, thats not giving up thats just accepting the inevitable, Hooker getting hurt was probably the icing on the cake altho it was already in the bag at that point. Defensive playcalling at its worst in this game, who wouldnt get frustrated.

You can be mad at me, but I’m not being paid millions to not drop these games. How badly did Florida beat this team? What was on the line? And our coach can’t get his team up for that and the opportunity to play in a playoff? It’s not just bad players when you get beat that badly and reverse 180 from the success we’ve had in previous games vs much better opponents and coaches. We’ve actually had some decent defensive games with Pitt, LSU, and UK so it’s clear something is wrong beyond subpar talent at secondary and LB. That’s a coaching issue. I’m not saying they haven’t put together a great year, they have. Need to close it out and not have losses like this game under any circumstance.

It’s insane that you are having to tell morons that we need to give a coach who beat Florida, LSWho, and Bama in the same year some time. He had a bad loss. Bad loses happen to every coach.
I really don’t want to go back to a Dooley, Butch or Pruitt.
I can live with this guy.
Amen brother..

We have some really stupid fans who act like spoiled children when things don’t go their way. Fortunately, they’re not leading this program.

I could understand being a little bit off and getting upset by a last second field goal. However getting 63 points scored on you by one of the worst offenses in the country does not add up to me at all. It seemed like the defense could care less to be there. Something seems really odd and the fact that J banks was just unavailable makes you wonder what’s really going on.

The “lost the team “ crowd are the same who were crying we would only win 7 if we were lucky.

Why in the world would I be mad at you? I’m not mad at you, I just think you’re going too far. You’re still mad because they fell way short of what you expected. I get that. We have had stretches of good play from our D but, for the most part, they’ve been wildly inconsistent. Unfortunately, last night they were very consistent. It’s hard to evaluate the defensive coaches because of the lack of talent. Most of the year it’s seemed like more of a player issue as players either busted assignments or were there and simply didn’t make the play. Last night, it felt like scheme issues but SC also knew what to do against our D. We’re a very aggressive defense when it comes to blitzing to help mask our coverage deficiencies but if you’re spread out it’s a lot harder to disguise blitzes. That’s what SC did. Their RBs being hurt actually hurt us as it completely changed their offensive identity. Literally none of the film we had from this year was worth a crap. And you have to give Rattler credit. He was better than I’ve ever seen him. That TD throw to go up 42-31 was ridiculous. He took one step, threw it and it was perfect even though his WR hadn’t even started his break yet. Anyway, let’s just beat Vandy and go from there.

I used to be one of them.
Then about 15 years ago life got real, really fast.
I love my university and watch every sport we play but it no longer ruins my week.
I watched every second last night and did have trouble sleeping a little. Not because of the loss. I love a comeback story and people who overcome. Even now I’m somewhat sick over what last night might have cost Hooker.
I hope he’s not seriously injured. He has a future beyond our university

Like you told me slice.. I can live with this coach cause I know he’s gonna win Tennessee games and make Tennessee competitive.. I’m ok with this and his system is proven to win games..
