A. Technically hasn't been 2 years yet.

B. The point (which is kinda obvious) was comparing the phenomenal results by CJH in just year 2 to the most Karenest of the Karen Negavol hot take reactions immediately at the time of the hire. "literally Butch Jones 2.0 - @ButchPlz " "foot in the door early; Fire Josh Heupel, - @FLVOL_79 " "at least fall Saturdays have opened up - @VolInNW " or @vegasvolfan declaring Butch Jones had a better resume and only good thing was it wasn't Sonny Dyes (2fer Win) Or their Queen @volgr with one fabulous take after another like "We tried to do worse with Dykes. Danny White is a clown. This is a dead hire. It has zero juice. Neyland will be lucky to ne half full. " & "This is as bad a hire as it gets. "

P.S. I really just started this as a quick chuckle at their expense and expected to move on, but their meltdown has been kind of Uh-Mazing. From the fragile soul who's written paragraphs to me at 4 am two days in a row now to the one who started a whole new thread dedicated to Don't Read It, Think Of The Children!! that's just blow it up so much more. #RentFree

Yup. I was underwhelmed that after the buildup White gave us, he turned around and hired a G5 coach who just so happened to coach at the school White came from. After 15-20 years of absolute incompetence in the AD, I believe my skepticism had a solid basis.

As it turns out, he had an amazing 2nd season, helped by his ability to grow quarterbacks and the very quiet (at the time) arrival of Hendon Hooker. Hooker, I believe, was a Slingblade McGump 'recruit', so at least that idiot did something right.

Heupel took what he had and made an amazing run in 2022. I definitely see the 'kids will run through walls' aspect of his style and culture. He has a LOT of promise. What will happen in the years to come? I have no idea, but at least he has made Tennessee football fun again.

Somehow, I consider myself a 'real' Tennessee fan. What I don't do is dig up old posts by people expressing their honest appraisal of a situation at the time, with no future knowledge, and then proceed to label them as not 'real' Tennessee fans. That is infantile. But, again, if it makes you happy, go for it.

I never labeled you that. Nice strawman though.

I also never called you a "nasty little %#$#" because that wouldn't be nice now would it? I mean, what kind of person does that over getting their feelinz hurtz.

Kinda a nasty little %#$#, aren't you? You do nothing but attack others.

But, you be you. ''Kay?

Not particularly nice, but given your overall tone and demeanor, probably pretty accurate.

Why is it hilarious? No one saw him succeeding at this level after the state the program was in at the time he was hired.
Because as a college football fan I saw the coach we were getting and was quite happy about it although I had questions about him getting a good DC...I also remember him lighting us up when he was OC at Mizzou...I knew he was a good coach but watching some of you freaking out and the sky is falling stuff was hilarious...And reliving it, It's still HILARIOUS!

Maybe he was just trying to incentivize folks to exercise cautious constraint instead of what we saw on 1/27. You could prove him wrong with an array of your posts along the way acknowledging the strides Coach provided along the way. That should git'er done.

You are on the clock.

Didn't check the link first, huh? Wasn't directed at me or my overall tone and demeanor. Oops.

Seems like maybe you have a pattern.

Yeah, I see I screwed up the original quote insertion, but trust me, I intended that post to be directed at you.

There is a search function on this site. Just type "Heupel" in the word search field and my username in the username field, and I believe you will find numerous posts where I praise Heupel.

Glad to help.

I still do not get your STAND against the revival of facts, not an interpretation, but replying to A fact to bring it back into view, to hopefully get ALL posters to avoid these evidently EMBARRASING displays. Yours, may have been an isolated incident, but there are other instances of folks with a more consistent snarky bent to their body of work. But it is a cautionary tale and equally covered by the free speech rights folks used to put their messages out there. What is the value add to the program or the board for not putting lesson's learned out there.

My recent stated preference going in to the bowls for GA to help UT by pummeling both OSU and MICH to logically elevate UT in the final polls, first did not happen at all, they squeaked by OSU, did not get to face MICH, and evidently would not have worked anyway with groups of poll voters willing to elevate a team that lost two of it's last three games big, the last one by FIDDY, from #3 to #2. But at least there are general attacks on some of the voters for their PUBLISHED WORK for a seeming use of bias and backroom politics over logic. But my posts are out there and subject to review and I won't whine if they are reintroduced. Mine was a best case hope, never a projection and it was for UT to gain ground in the polls not plummet due to failure of our staff.

Yours is a very reasonable post.

My irritation stemmed from the practice on this board of digging up posts where folks voiced displeasure and negative predictions about a new coach, and then more or less rubbing it in the face of those posters with the advantage of perfect hindsight. Especially given our recent history.

Two years ago, we were coming off 4 consecutive disaster hires at HC. We had just hired an AD who promised the moon. I believe he informally offered several “big” names, was turned down flat, and ended up hiring a G5 coach from the school he just left. In that context, I grant a lot of leeway and grace to those who were negative about the hire. If folks are still negative on Heupel after what he has done with a demoralized program and depleted roster, well then they deserve ridicule.

My only remaining reservation (and I chose that word carefully) about Heupel is, surprisingly, his recruiting on the offense. I know he can make potato salad out of potatoes, but I figured he would have offense skill players crawling to Knoxville to play, and might struggle to recruit defense. For some reason, the opposite has happened.

Time will tell, but I’m very pleased with our coach so far, and as I said before, at the very least it is again fun to watch games. Go Vols!!

The explosion on the day of CJH's hire was reminiscent of the outburst when Kiffin went out the door. Mattress burning and embarrassing displays of FANDOM provided really bad impressions of our fanbase i.e. Trailer Trash references for weeks. And that was based on a hard fact he had jobbed us in the eye with his departure. On the day in question the impact on the program had to be speculation. Did not expect jubilation, but could not justify taking shots at our brand new AD and Coach without some basis. So I guess the thought process for those of us tagging those posts is that maybe SOME folks will have fear of having reponses to new posts before they put out new unfounded declarative attacks, BVS not withstanding.

It's bizarre that you continually post on a sports message board and expect there to be zero emotion and unreasonableness. And then continually defend yourself as if you're teaching anyone a lesson, doubling down on how right you are for poking at people for their past posts.

You're pissing into the wind at best. It's kind of funny.

On the other hand I bet no one is surprised that you want to justify bad acts as ACCEPTABLE and NORMAL fan behavior. There is such a thing as reasonable negative discourse on any subject by a fan. For sure there is usually a force out there and I guess you could characterize the output of a blowhard as a wind. When outbursts on a message board by folks identifying as fans provides zero value add to the discussion, or especially to the program itself, it is belief that there is value add to having it called out for the rest of the free world to see that it is not universally accepted as rational fandom. To say nothing can be viewed as being complicit or worse in agreement. Response is the nature of dialog, not your preferred protected monologue. Emotion does not have to result in caustic outbursts. Accepting that unreasonableness exists does not mean it is reasonable by definition. Illegal acts will always exist too... you want to categorically justify those as well?

My man, being irritable on a message board after a decade and a half of being awful is absolutely normal. You can't complain about "value" then rant like you continue to do. What "value" does that bring? Do you think you're teaching someone a lesson? Because you're not- you're coming across as the mouthbreathing guy that thinks he's changing the world from the comfort of his trailer park seat.

My memory isn’t what it used to be, but, I don’t recall Heupel’s hiring being anywhere close to the reaction of Kiffin leaving. Like I said, I could totally be wrong and if I am I’ll accept it, but I don’t remember it being that bad except for a few posters. Even then, if people were still saying “Heupel isn’t the one” then by all means tar and feather them. But, for once we have a coach that seems to have united the fanbase so I’m of the opinion to just collectively cheer on the Vols and enjoy our success.

I think those that feel the most TARGETED by these bumps were amongst the most vicious at bumping their own predictions of inevitable failure with previous HC's. Always preceded by "We'll never be relevant until we hire a PROVEN HOME-RUN HC!" Which meant Urban, Saban, CHIP KELLY and JIMBO FISHER and not Kirby Smart, Lincoln Riley...scrubs like that. There was no self-restraint with those "I told you so"s...so them's the breaks. Resume crying rivers.

I don't think I have ever posted an "I told you so" about a coach, so your strawman is busted right out of the gate.

If I cited YOU? THEN you'd have a GOTCHA moment. But I didn't...so you don't. ;) Paranoid on, Tin Man.

NO, I fear that MANY of those that want to justify unnecessary unsavory posting are above education, but ONCE AGAIN the rest of the free world that might read a board can identify it is not universally accepted by our entire fanbase who in fact recognize that EVERY FANBASE HAS THEM. However a few borderline folks might think twice before pulling the trigger and therefore make the world a better place with addition by subtraction.

I suspicion our interaction has identified the existence of both camps to any drive by readers. Remember now, this whole discussion is about the practice of responding to gnarly posts of the past to put them back in view for accountability and whether or not that is reasonable practice. I obviously vote yes. For the record VOLINNW's post was reintroduced by someone else, not me. There should be inherent risk assumed every time you hit the post button from where I sit. Way more risk than reward potential. Too many times the reward sought is personal relief through venting. Better off going outside and kicking a tree.
