Heupel's Monday Presser

So you think just every guy in the portal is a bike run guy that can just instantly make you better? That’s BS. Are you insinuating Heupels seat is even remotely warm?

Project what you saw the last two weeks to the remaining games (The toughest part of the schedule) and extrapolate how many wins you see (I see 3 for sure) and Then you will have to agree the seat will be more than warm. 5-7, 6-6? Hot seat, IMO. From 11 to 6 wins? Mismanagement; especially when some teams added 20 or more players through JC and the Portal. If you are a top CFB Coach these days, you should have no down years. You determine your needs and address accordingly. No more "It takes time" excuses . The smartest hardest working coaches will be the ones on top. The Oline should have been addressed, and the secondary. They weren't.

Okay, Slice...I finally had time to go back to Square 1 and start over, and here's what happened: For some reason (remember, you are not dealing with the sharpest knife in the drawer here), I got sidetracked into thinking that you were talking about "Type A" athletes, not the head coach. So my (intended) point from the get-go was that Heupel had underlying issues on the staff that prevented him from getting the best out of his team. And I'll stick with that. If it's up to me, Martinez was gone yesterday; Banks is on notice; and I make sure Halzle has Golesh's cell # and uses it.

I also think he might have a chemistry issue with a couple or few players who are...in the immortal words of Will Rogers (?)...all hat and no cattle. I've always been a proponent of letting the scoreboard make the statement. Again, if it's up to me Hadden is going to get sores on his butt from riding the pine the rest of the way.

So, you were both correct and right, and I ended up getting all riled up about the Germans attacking Pearl Harbor.

All you need to do to make things right with me is send me a mint condition GI 1911A1 and we'll call it good.

 (put a cowboy hat on it and it's Coach Prime...lol)

Go Vols.

If people don’t realize that after the last 20 years of misery I don’t know what else they need to see.
CJH may not have us in contention every year but he will make runs at it.
Not with a bad year and then recruits get poached. Guess who was at Boulder last week, making his 3rd visit there? "Committed" BOO Carter.

BTW - I realize it’s a sponsor, but the 2 bottles of Coke on the podium looks ridiculous and annoying
A smart marketing person would have only one bottle there that the coach would take a drink from. That wouldn’t look so staged and still get the money

I noticed in Heupel’s interviews during fall camp, he just didn’t seem the same as last year. Seemed uneasy and short as opposed to the laid back, cool demeanor he showed last season. I think it’s pretty obvious as to why…

Y’all say that every year and the recruitment never gets poached. You reference a kid who has been to how many high schools and been in trouble how many times?
I would not base anything on him. I’m not sure he can stay out of trouble long enough to see the field if he makes it to signing day

I agree, and they would instruct him to take a big swig and say “Ahhh” afterwards, and look at the bottle lovingly before resuming the presser

"Every Year"? I've never said anything of the sort. However with the new system; (NIL & Transfer Portal) we will see plenty of poaching. Guys are going where they can win & get paid. And where the excitement is. That was us last year, this year? You do the Science.

Got news for you.
That’s us this year. I was in Neyland for the Pees. The place was rocking. We have deep pockets. We will be able to sell last year in spite of this year.

I understand your viewpoint...however, this is year #3...His "Jimmys and Joes" should be making up at least 1/2 of not more of that roster now....and in another year, a minimum of 75% of that roster (most likely around 90% due to the initial 16 scholarships we limited ourselves) should be his players.

I agree he is not getting a boot after this year or next year....but if he does not show a strong upward trajectory in the next 12 months, he will be feeling the hot seat for the remainder of 2024.

I just do not agree that this is a "Jimmy and Joe" issue....we were not that far off from where UF is on players...and last year we did a lot with a lot less....I need to see that this was not catching lightening in a bottle with H. Hooker being the true catalyst and what last year was is repeatable with different personnel.
You say that you do not agree with my point about Jimmys and Joes, yet you discuss one of our key players from last year being responsible for our success. That SUPPORTS my statement about us not having the right Jimmys and Joes in '23.

We had major talent loss at nearly every position group except RB on offense from '22 to '23. People who expected Joe Milton to be on par with HH were sniffing gas during the off season. The sad truth is that Milton does not have the cognitive ability to run this offense or make good decisions in high pressure situations. We are sorely missing Darnell Wright on the OL. These major key players are difficult to replace, and we lack suitable replacements this year. Temper your expectations; it will spare you the misery.

The good news: if our class of '24 holds up, we should see many additions to the team in key positions that we need. We also have some heavy hitters that can elevate our level of talent on our roster for the class of '25. Let Heupel get his pieces. We have the right man at the helm of the program.

Yeah…sometimes I talk in circles…especially when overly emotional about the 💩💩💩 I saw Saturday night.

So did Brian Kelly in year one. Sark would be 2-0 if the refs didn’t screw them over. Bama almost also lost to Ole Miss and ATM last year. They also struggled to beat South Florida this year. While it was a huge win for this program and possibly the best non-championship UT game I’ve seen, beating Bama isn’t the same win it was the last decade. I think he’s the right guy but he’s also about to be 1-2 vs Beamer and is 1-1 vs Napier. He’s got a lot of development to do and probably needs to move on from Martinez, Ekeler and maybe Banks.
It was last year my friend. Bryce at qb made them way better. They were a playoff potential team last year. Not this year though.

You may not like it, but he is 3-0
I’m not saying he isn’t 3-0. What he’s done thus far has been very impressive with a program that went 1-11 last season. He has brought some talented guys with him, but he also has 1 decent win. The TCU win was unexpected, but the other 2 were expected. And he was lucky Saturday night. My problem isn’t with Deion, it’s been the amount of times I’ve heard his name being thrown around here like he’s done something better than Heupel, like beating a Nick Saban or Dabo or Brian Kelly. I’m not pointing my finger at you here. Let’s wait and see what happens the next 2 weeks when Colorado plays teams of real substance before we decide our coach is old news.

Is this Carter you're talking about? If so, do not want.

Yes-it was a tremendous coaching effort and the best year since probably 2003. Of course there would be a step-down this year, but you don’t lose the game in UF if you hit the portal and recruit more diligently for the pieces you lost on the oline/LB/secondary and address the staff problems. Losing to UF isn’t going to help sustain that level of success. I hope the freshman and sophomore classes have some guys that can, but we’ll see those same struggles next year if they can’t establish the run and pass protect for Nico. And blaming the fans isn’t going to fix it because they can’t do that for the coaching staff. They did their job by showing up and supporting the team. The coach needs to do his job and address the issues or that season we all enjoyed is the best you’re getting. Pointing these problems out doesn’t mean you’re not appreciative. Championship programs aren’t built in memorializing one great season and then getting complacent. That’s why Fulmer only got one trophy.
Well maybe they should hire you since you have all the answers.

Maybe our schedule needs to include at least somewhat of a challenge before playing UF away. Just a thought.

It wouldnt be such a bad idea to open the season against North Carolina, NC State or App State to help toughened them up for SEC play.

Thanks for posting. Excellent interview. The team has time to overcome an early road loss and be formidable.

Wow, just ludicrous. If a coach has to beat Alabama to keep his job, we are going to be hiring and firing a coach every 1-2 years.
I’m sure Heupel is safe for at least 2, if not 3 years unless the wheels fall off. He’s probably under some pressure from the AD and boosters after the crap show this past Saturday but I’m sure it’s not any more pressure than he’s already applied to himself considering his competitiveness. Heupel is likely getting a ton of grief over DC Banks and DB coach Martinez. I’d bet they’re both on the hot seat from either Heupel, Danny White, or the boosters. If they aren’t, there is a complacency problem within the staff that needs to be addressed.
