Hey cuonzo

Well, you did get one out of three right. Congrats
Just having a little fun with you as I am Christian and a conservative. I do agree with you about Cuonzo. When he took the job, I was thinking we were going to get a coach who knew his beans. In reality, he came across as a mean-spirited, grumpy old guy who was not a very good coach and his team played a boring style of game that always seem to pluck defeat from the jaws of victory. I was glad to see him go and it had nothing to do with the fact that he was a black man. If he had won
as Bruce did I would have been rooting for UT to build a statute to him. He did not and I was glad to see him leave town. Of course, we got a loser to follow him. I was glad to see him go too.
And I believe he was a white man.

Really. Since Tennessee' first appearance NCAA tournament in 1967, only 2 Tennessee Men's Basketball teams have won 3 games within the same NCAA tournament. Martin's 2014 team was 1 of the 2.

Were you one of the 10,000 racist idiots?
Why r u playing the race card? I really like Martin as a person, but he’s a lousy game day coach. He can’t make in-game or halftime adjustments. The 2014 team had sweet 16 if not elite 8 talent and “earned” the “play-in” game. One of the absolute worst coaching jobs in Vol BB history! He left before he got fired.

There was no racism. Stop

I see three arguments in this thread.

1. Cuonzo was mistreated because he was not a very good coach. His teams tended to choke away games late and as the past several years have taught us, he is not a very good head coach.

2. Cuonzo was mistreated because he was not Bruce Pearl. That is true as well. He didn't have the flair, he wasn't in public as much, he didn't run the same type of offense.

3. Cuonzo was mistreated by a portion of the fan base because of his skin color. Let's not have revisionist history here. A portion of the fan and booster base mistreated him for that reason. Those closest and playing within the program have said the same thing. After 3 years, Coach A was 57-44 with 1 tourney win and 1 postseason appearance. Coach B was 63-41 with 3 NCAA wins and 3 postseason appearances (NIT and NCAA). Coach A was Rick Barnes, Coach B was Cuonzo Martin. Look at how they were treated by the fanbase after Year 3. This isn't a a UT issue but it's an issue in all leagues today. It's how guys like Jim Caldwell and Tony Dungy get fired after 1 bad season but guys like Jeff Fisher can sputter around for a decade after their peak.
No he wasn’t. Jesus

Times have changed (THANK GOODNESS!) I can remember about that many fans in TBA when I was a student 1997-1999. About 5 minutes into the game they would announce over the load-speaker: "We invite all fans in the upper deck to come on down and get a better seat"......

Course, the LADY VOL games were always SOLD-OUT!
Because the lady vols gave away free tickets to everyone

Josh Richardson has publicly said he heard it. So did Jarnell Stokes. His wife had documented reports and had to hire extra security. I even told you the date and time I heard it.

But yeah, we should believe you. We had a segment of our fanbase that didn't like him for that reason. I'd like to think it's a super small segment but to say it didn't happen ignores reality. And yes, every fanbase has that segment.

I don't know how the seats were assigned, season tickets vs single game, etc., but I would have been chapped if I had to fork out some big bucks for seats in the lower level and a single game ticket holder for $13 came on down to the lower level and sat next to me.
Don't want to eat with the help, we see.

When the media reported it , KPD sent a detective to their house and she denied it happened and said there was no evidence of it. Don’t believe everything you hear in media or third hand accounts

Defending Cuonzo is the head scratcher. Using LoM doesn't make sense.
The difference is he is not here anymore. Cuonzo’s tenure ended in what 2010? Why are folks still hanging on to all that ire? If he still coached here, I would probably have no comment. He’s probably out of a job after the season. People can still be ticked off about his time here if they want. Maybe was fired, maybe he resigned. What I recall was a shameless petition to replace him with Bruce Pearl during his final year. I know fans want to win but that petition was below the belt and embarrassing. No wonder guys like Pete Thamel have so much fun jumping on our fan base

You don’t remember what the petition said. There was nothing in it about removing Cuonzo.

The petition no longer exists to my knowledge, so proof is difficult to manufacture, but I believe TGO is correct that it stated something to the effect of "if an opening presents itself" rather than explicitly stating, "Fire Zo! BBB!".

To that point, though, there is a certainly a level of implicity when someone is currently the coach and a petition surfaces to bring back a former coach "if an opening presents itself". It's not difficult to read between the lines, there.

I didn’t “slam others’ memory”. The petition was to bring back Bruce IF THERE WERE TO BE AN OPENING.
Isn't it comical to see folks spin history to fit their agendas?

Petition was the BBB, if it was open. Why is that so hard for these guys to understand?

Coach Martin was already planning his Exodus out of Knoxville anyways, just no one knew it. Tucked his tail , took advantage of TNs resources, and left.
