Hiking Thread

Here is a video shot from the Beartooth Highway just two days prior to the storm that you referenced on the 18th that closed the highway: Driving Montana and Wyoming's Beartooth Pass June, 16, 2011 - YouTube. Again, these points underscore the importance of seizing the advantage of good weather if, and when, the Creator chooses to bless you in this way.

I actually just watched that video the night before last. I couldn't remember the exact dates for sure, I just remembered that we were in Custer SD on the morning of the 19th which is my daughter's birthday. That means we left Mammoth Cabins on the morning of the 18th which is the day they shut down the Beartooth. They said the plateau had received 8-10 inches of snow overnight. I was so upset at the time, but there was so much snow up there at that time, that it wouldn't have really been the experience that I want from the Beartooth. I'm actually more bummed out that we got snowed out this past September. It was completely clear just a few days before.

One good thing is that the Cheif Joseph hwy was so spectacular in 11 that it almost made up for missing the BTH.

Chief Joseph Hwy is a great drive.

I would welcome you guys to see my pics on FB, but there are some hyenas on VN that hate me and would love to drag me and my work through the mud. Therefore I value my privacy.

By the way, for anyone interested in visiting Glacier National Park, there is a really good messageboard dedicated exclusively to that park. See Glacier National Park Chat • Index page. Strangely, I ran across a couple of fellow Glacier aficionados there who live only a couple of miles from me in west Nashville.

It will say something like Loading files-please wait above the Attachments Key black line. Wait. Then look beside the Choose File button and you will see 1photo. You can repeat four times for a maximum of five pictures in a post.

I don't have internet at home so I am always on mobile version. When I get a new laptop, I will figure this out. Many thanks for the help.

On mobile I follow all the instructions right, but it always says my pic files are too big.

Have you tried going to pc mode on your phone and then following smallvols's directions?

I have and got aggravated at trying to work with it. Next time I am going to be somewhere for a while that has WiFi, I will down load some from my Kindle or my laptop. I literally have hundreds if not thousands of great pictures. I am a shutterbug.

There is some way to decrease the file size; I have no idea how to do that though.

I took my 3yr old on Laurel Falls. I had to carry him about 75% of the way. Hopefully I can convince him to start walking these trails instead of me carrying him. On a side note, my arms are getting ripped. We also saw a bear!!

Backpack carriers are a life saver if you hike regularly.

Alright dudes... Machu Picchu.

Anyone finished it? Slated for 6/31.

Ciudad de Perdida was definitely all I could handle but I finished at the head of the pack. I understand altitude prep is a bigger factor in Peru.

Anyone have a good company through which to go?

I've read it's a lot easier to get to now than it was say 10 years ago. Just what I've read. Definitely one of my bucket list items

Whoops, I had been drinking hahaha.

I land in Cusco on the 29th and start the hike two days later.

Glad to know that. Or you were definitely planning very far ahead and very optimistic as to physical condition 13 years from now.

Good hiking. Post pics on your return.👍

Found a good company that'll do a 5 day for 600.

From all accounts it's not as physically taxing as what I did in Colombia, but only if I acclimate myself. I'm thinking about buying one of those stupid training masks.

Don't forget you will be there in the dead of winter
