I went to the Max Patch today, WOW. Unreal views & tough to get there. The leaves almost at peak. Some spots had great color, others still had a lot of green. It was VERY CROWDED!!! At least 40 cars & 100 people while we were there!!! I missed my turn on the way home. I had to go to I40 then to Asheville, then JC. ugh. It took the same amount of time on the way there but more turns & slower driving.

I want to go back for a camping sunset / sunrise!!!

If I knew how to upload pic on page I would. I can only get them loaded on my profile/ album page.

Glad you enjoyed your hike! We went hiking in NC today, leaves were just starting to change, a little disappointing because it was fully done this time last year. At least we had some great views and great photos!

Went to Mt Mitchell today, seems like next weekend the mountains will be on fire. I will do a 20 mile hike next weekend.

I'm jealous that you guys have the Smokies down there. I'll be up at the most beautiful place in the area this coming weekend. Hopefully I get there with some daylight left or I can hike on Sunday morning.

Well we did bike the Creeper trail. It was awesome. Great color. I would say its at or just past peak. Lots of bare trees. We actually camped at the campground up there. It was fun. It got cold & started raining around 12:30am. Of course I got a little wet. (Horrible design flaw in my tent) The wife slept great.

Since we were so close we headed to Grayson Highlands Park, 16 miles from campground East on 58. It had scenic trails & overlook areas. The weather was getting bad while we were there, wind, sleet/rain, so I got some pics & we left. It reminded us of Carvers Gap but more things to do, camping, horses, etc

We were hoping to see more this weekend, instead many leaves had fallen and there was snow!

I went to Linn Cove Viaduct today. It is a .25 mile section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Pretty cool to see the road float along the mountain side. It is held up by 7 pillars. Minimal effect on the landscape. Pretty easy to find, well marked trail. Find the visitor center at MM 304. follow the trail. I got some good pics but missed peak for the leaves. Still decent colors, mostly orange & reds.

I figured I would give this thread a bump since I'm going to climb some Mountains in the Dominican Republic next week!!! Cant Wait!!

Good luck man, the island heat is gonna be rude compared to what we have had lately. I am going to Springer on Mon for 3 days.

Its gonna be a high of 84. Yes it is going to be a welcomed change!! Im looking forward to it!! Prolly going to Zipline. Great views & way to see the countryside. They have 1 run that is over 800 meters. Its from the base of 1 mountain to the base of another. They tell you not to brake or you get stuck.

This past Saturday we went to one of my favorite falls, Twin Falls, before hiking to Raven Cliff Falls where we got engaged a year ago.

that looks like a big/fast waterfall.. Is that in Western NC?? There are a lot of falls that I need to hit in Western NC..

It is actually NW SC in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness area, three great state parks there with lots of good hiking.
