HOLLY could be the worst coach....

The only constant is Holly. The players have changed somewhat as now instead of Deshields turning it over it is Westbrook. Instead of Reynolds it is Hayes. Instead of Middleton it is Davis. Some people want to blame the turnovers on being freshmen but we were around 20 turnovers a game last season too and they were from juniors and seniors.
The only constant is Holly she has been there with every group.

Last season we had 429 TOs in 32 games. That's 13.4 per game.

At one point, I never missed watching a game.
I then lapsed into just the big games.
Now, I barely watch at all.
Under Holly (who I really like personally and appreciate so much for everything she’s done for Pat and our program),
I just don’t enjoy watching them.
They are not fundamentally sound.
Our freshman leave Holly’s program worse players than when they came to campus. Truly sad.

No terrible shot selection and giving up offensive rebound baskets don't count as turnovers or we'd have 30 a game. The point still is we lost 12 games and to some terrible teams making it totally true that Holly is in over her head no matter how many McDonald's All Americans are on the team.

This is a classic example of moving the goalposts. Your post was about turnovers and saying that last year with more experienced players we were having just as many turnovers so this year it can't be the freshman, it must be Holly. I point out that last year the turnovers were lower. So NOW it's about shot selection and offensive rebounds and IF those counted as turnovers we'd be really bad and last year wasn't very good anyway so it STILL must be Holly! Umm, yeah, that's it.

In the end all that matters is bad coaching and bad play and terrible losses so if that stat is your only concern guess you are a happy camper. Evidently you are one that thinks Holly is a wonderful coach.

I checked those stats, and they're accurate.
The LV's averaged only 13.4 turnovers per game last year.
This year we're up to 17.1 to's per game.
(444 in 26 games)
That amounts to a 27.6% increase in turnovers per game over last year's rate. Maybe it wasn't all DD's fault ?

Nonsense. Diamond was the root of all evil for the last two years. Clearly, this year's team has shown the ability to play hard for all 40 minutes of the game, have tight cohesion and communication on the court, are assertive, play with pride and intensity, and are greater than the sum of their collective parts.

Evina was a fighter early in the season. Lately she has struggled in a variety of ways.
The only consistent fighter we have is Meme. But the problem is that she has off nights scoring like any player, but, she can’t affect a game offensively like Nared can.
Even nared doesn’t fight sometimes, especially on defense. I don’t think rennia likes playing defense that much either. There’s a reason we have to play zone a lot; players don’t want to put in the effort to get down in a stance and guard someone. It will hurt their games at the next level. Say what you want about shekinna Strickland/glory Johnson years; those players play in the WNBA because they can guard somebody.
Our real problem is that we have lacked a good point guard since Shannon bobbit. Our offensive style demands someone who can run the offense with confidence and poise. Holly has her faults, but I think her biggest is that seemingly she cannot coach or demand excellence from a point guard after having been one herself. This year it’s the worst it’s ever been because we have two top ten guards who, though freshmen, can’t get it together to produce at least a 2:1 turnover ratio. Evina certainly has the abilities, but she isn’t getting coached to do better! It will be CHW’s failure if evina leaves or doesn’t become the player she’s capable of being. Annie suffers from a lack of confidence and a weak jump shot. We must demand leadership and excellence at the point guard position if we are going to do better.

Yes, Evina was a fighter early in the season. She was playing with poise and confidence and she gave the offense a boost. If she were still playing like that, this would be a different team. But she isn't the same confident player and her biggest contribution now is assists. It doesn't look like we're going to fix our PG issues this year. We're going to have to find ways to win with the PGs we have and the TOs they generate.

They mentioned her knee injury, and she seems uncomfortable on the court. She's not playing with the same confidence or aggression. Annie will need to play more minutes for the rest of the season and needs to be productive. She's been very inconsistent, but she's needed because of Evina's injury.

Wow, I got killed on another thread for suggesting Evina's injury has been underplayed.... and here we are weeks later and I'm still amazed how few fans seem to realize she's even injured, and fewer still seem to realize just how limited she is right now....

You were castigated for your earlier post. I think some fans still don't realize how "limited she is", is because there hasn't been an official word of it's seriousness. Maybe Evina wants it that way, or maybe not.

Based on the number of posts I've seen about how Evina isn't fighting/hustling/confident I don't think a lot of fans even realize she's injured at all. I was afraid this would be a completely different team when it became clear she was impaired and sadly that has been the case....

"I have a question to anyone. I notice many head coaches use that board that looks like a small basketball court during breaks to have 'little' teachable moments. Does Tenn. head coach do this? I am asking because I don't ever see her doing it during breaks. I don't see her doing anything but standing there. I am not trying to be mean by saying that. (There may be times she uses it and I don't see it. That is why I am asking. As a retired teacher, I know using visual aids are better for some students.) I see her talking to her players individually. But I don't see her actually helping and guiding them as a group during the time outs. I just see her standing around. I hope it is not all of the time she does this."

That QUOTE was taken from the comment sec. of the espn Tn v Mo board. The insightfulness of an English teacher. Spot on! It's time for a new coach y'all. Lets all thank Holly then say our goodbyes.

Of course people realize she's limited. Holly has said so in multiple interviews and it's hard to miss the brace. Westbrook's minutes have been only slightly reduced, but she is less effective and that has affected her confidence. That's what people are commenting on.

One of the big problems is Holly has a massive inferiority complex. Today's presser after yet ANOTHER loss to a lesser team she says "They fought hard"..and that's "All I can ask".

Isn't that something the coach at West Montana State says after they lose to Duke? Not what a coach of a higher ranked team says about losing to a lower ranked team?

She doesn't even expect to win. Everybody.... to Holly...is better than she or her team is. She's just happy her team "fought hard". Winning? Ehhh....she doesn't expect that. After all she's who she is...and the Lady Vols aren't the type of team in her mind that should win anyway. Forget winning. She feels like she doesn't even deserve to win, and that attitude gets passed to her team. She doesn't think highly of herself that she SHOULD win. In her mind she SHOULD lose....which is why "fighting hard" is good enough in her mind. Losing is expected...cuz deep down that's what she feels she and her team deserve.

How can u keep trotting out a coach like that? My gawd. It's beyond pathetic. Let her go get counseling for whatever deep seated self value issues she obviously has...but it's just criminal to allow this program destroyer to continue to lay her deep seated issues on this basketball program and those otherwise talented girls.

The only thing she instills in this team is to make them feel like they are undeserving of success...and any success they DO have is by luck or chance. It's borderline criminal what this psychotic wreck of a coach has done/is doing to a once proud program.

In the top 25 coaching group. Ive seen this before, I've coached sports for twenty years. The assistant coach is the friend, the go between from the head coach that makes you cry with the rigors of performance and being fit and the arse chewings that ensue. It's a difficult transition to go from friend to head coach. Holly was a great player, and a great assistant. The head coach has to be the disciplinarian, the guy that the players respect and sometimes hates. But the success that the team gains from that makes the players love them. Holly is not that and can never be that. I use to cuss my greatest head coach under my breath during practice. I never really felt comfortable during my playing career around him, but I realized later that he was just pushing all the buttons to make us all better. The Lady Vols discipline and conditioning is so lacking. We should not be brought down to the wire by a .500 team, and never give up double digit leads to any team with the talent we have. We are soft and it is the reflection of the coach or should I say friend.

Time to change the thread title to "HOLLY IS DEFINITELY THE WORST COACH..."

She has to go. Sooner rather than later.

I didn't watch that crapfest yesterday and I'm the better for it.

I guess the only part I missed was measuring the other coach versus CHW, but even that gets old. The outcome is always the same.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I agree that freshmen make mistakes. The difference between Duke's men's program and our women's program is that our 2 best players are seniors (who are also 2 of the top 4 seniors in the sec). Because of the way men's college basketball is structured, that will never happen at Duke. I brought up the fact that coach K has won NCAA championships to illustrate that he's earned some latitude when his team doesn't perform up to standards. Something that Holly has not done to date. I posted at the start of the season that I didn't think the LV"s would make the final four either this year or next because of their over dependence on underclassmen.
At which point a few posters said there would be no excuses this year because of our level of talent.
I'm not a huge fan of Holly as a head coach. But, I didn't expect them to have a better record than they do, at this point in the season. The question is, are they getting better or not ?
Before all the one and "donners" how long did coach K coach before winning his first Natty? Plus duke has the great Grayson Allen to lead them. My point is AA freshmen make mistakes male or female. Even at this stage of the season!! They like us started out like gangbusters and have tapered off. Them with what is considered one of the best coaches in college basketball. Just saying stuff happens.

Speaking of her inferiority complex, I knew the program would have trouble being elite even for one season under her when she was calling her team "great" one year and they had 3 or 4 losses at the time. Like many others, that comment was a real head scratcher.
