Holly says the team quit

And that's still better than the rest of the guards, most of whom can't even say they played well in a handful of games in their career, let alone this season.

has been somewhere between mediocre and bad all year, you are right. But nobody on the team has DD's talent. You need her to play well AND be a positive force on the team--and she's been the opposite from the first game. She chronically dour--or seems so. Don't know why--maturity issue, maybe. Something is off-kilter.

In strictly practical terms, and coaching aside (for a moment), we have a bunch of bad shooters. Fans talk about all our All American prospects. Let's face it--they were all overrated. We are an offensively challenged team. Cooper can take the rock to the basket but has an old-fashioned push shot that's not effective--and so does Reynolds. Russell is Ok but hardly the caliber of the country's no. 1 prospect--too old-school deliberate. Neither she nor Graves, who deserves better than this given her admirable work ethic for four years, can be called a true scorer--not at all. They are big and can each score 10 a game, and rebound, but they can't--and don't--win games for us. Nared has potential but has struggled this year too, like everybody. As bad as our offense is, as much as I complain about our system, whatever it is, our players miss a TON of open shots. They just miss. You can't win games if you can't shoot the basketball. Last year Burdick and Harrison and Massenale made shots. This group could not get the ball in the ocean if they were standing in the surf.

I hate to bring up the obvious but who was the reporter? MATT SLOVIN of the Tennessean.
-3 jobs since 2012
-Involved in all negative articles in the Tennessean about UT for the last couple of months
-got fired in Michigan and got his newspaper sued for false reporting in 2012

Yes there is disappointment in the results of the team this year but I have serious doubts about the "reporter's" integrity and credibility and you should too.

Check out muckrack.com and search his name. It's an article writers resume. He rarely reports anything other than speculation and his former employer was forced to fire him because of his behavior or face paying a 1,000,000 dollar libel suit.

Are you kidding me? Our best overall player on this team needs to leave? Well, you're probably gonna get that wish because she will most likely be transferring after this season to another school. I don't blame her one bit either. Diamond is not this teams problem. It's mostly the coaching & not the players. We have a bunch of high school All Americans on this roster. What does that tell you? It's not Diamond's fault! She's by far the best overall player that we have.

She's aggressive & makes some mistakes. That's true but no more than Carter & some others on this team. How many easy baskets has Mercedes missed? How many times has she missed critical FT's? Don't try to blame this team chemistry problem on our best player. That's just not right! Diamond is a rare talent! We just don't have a coach that knows how to handle her.

Define best!
She leads the team in PPG, but has taken more shots than anyone else and has the FIFTH best shooting percentage and has taken 200 more shots than the best shooter and 150 more than the second best shooter while shooting .150 worse.
She takes by far the most three pointers while shooting worse than everyone but Meme who has taken only 14 three point shots.
She has the third most assist on the team while leading by a wide margin in TOs for an assist/TO of a dreadful 0.59

Between her and Cooper, they are taking 41% of the TN shots and 47% of the three pointers while hitting a combined .364/.242 while the rest of the team is shooting .430/.286 not stellar but significantly better. They are responsible for 37% of the turnovers while contributing only 33% of the assist for an A/TO of 0.67 - the rest of the team has an A/TO of 0.84.

Well to the posters here..... yes DD is our most talented player perhaps..... she is spectacular in the definition of the word and can do things no other player can do.... b ut what about the shooting percentage? What about the turnovers? If you net out all the bad stuff, is she helping us? and with the attitude, which i have no firsthand knowledge of, but can readily see..... what are the prospects that we can convince her to be coached....?? She seems to have the attitude of "I am your best player .. your best chance of success (seconded by her father).... you need to put up with my turnovers and low shooting percentage and the other stuff" ..... we knew this might happen when she came here.... so now what?

That's what I'm questioning. Did Matt Slovin make up the "headline" or was there video and audio to support it? The reason I'm asking is because it isn't in the utsports.com presser and Slovin got fired from a previous job for false reporting. Can anyone post a link to the soundbite?

I second your skepticism. In the press conference video, Holly complained that the team missed lots of shots at the rim and further noted that they got worn down from having to press so much in 2nd half. Those comments are not consistent with this purported quote. And I have not seen any other independent reference to this quote, outside of those linking to this one Slovin tweet, in other game reports.

If this had been said, it would have been more of a lead.
So, the BS alarm should be sounding.

Slovin is a fraud. This whole thread is based on his headline. Read my previous posts. There is proof to my statements. If anyone has the video and audio proving Slovin's headlines are correct then post them. I will retract my statement.

This is good news! Holly publicly stating that the team quit on her. That's the best outcome after last nights debacle against Bama. More to come I'm sure.

I too think it's time to move on from Holly. But bad coaching is no excuse to quit as a team. If they have indeed thrown in the towel, that's embarrassing for the university they represent and the fans that support them

And what would you suggest they do specifically the returning players? It would be very unbecoming if they verbally stated they hated Holly and didn't want her to coach them.

It's obvious that they are miserable and playing as such. The problem lays squarely on the coaches shoulders.

Holly is the problem. The LVs are playing awful one only has to see it to believe. No direction on or off the court.

Get rid of Holly and I bet the wins start to mount.

Besides the win against Oregon State I don't see how Tennessee makes the tourney if they do it's just to save face... This is a not a NCAA or WNIT team they play more like a NAIA school...

Everybody on the team was bad tonight and almost every night. Team shot 26 percent who you going to beat shooting 26 percent? Holly ball has been bad in the past but team won a lot of games on talent alone. This team is not showing much talent and I think they want Holly gone as much as the majority of the fans.

Would be a perfect example of this if DD leaves...

If there are players who are planning on leaving, they should feign injuries and sit out the reaming games so those players who are committed to playing next year can get as much game time as possible.

I'll have to admit I quit wasting time watching these games a while ago, but I'm still stunned that they lost these last two games. This is sub-Dooley level coaching. Perhaps HW graduated from that place advertised on the Rock a few years back, "The Derek Dooley School for Coaches Who Can't Coach Good"...

Before his descent into the frigid depths of the north Atlantic, Captain John Smith was heard to utter the words, "The ship gave up on me", ignoring the fact that the collision with the iceberg was ultimately his responsibility. A ship does not steer itself.
