Holly says the team quit

Can not fire Holly right now!!!!!!!! If you fire her she would join the law suit. They would say more proof that women are not treated equally. She also could prove more insider info that could damage the program.

That's what I'm questioning. Did Matt Slovin make up the "headline" or was there video and audio to support it? The reason I'm asking is because it isn't in the utsports.com presser and Slovin got fired from a previous job for false reporting. Can anyone post a link to the soundbite?

According to Slovin it was said in the postgame show, I'm assuming with Dearstone. If that's the case the audio must be available somewhere. And if Holly was misquoted or taken out of context, I can't believe she wouldn't be speaking out about such a potentially damaging comment....

It was in the post game interview with Doc. It wasn't made up. If the Sportsanimal has it up on site, people can go listen to the interview. The players have no idea what's wrong and the coaches have no idea what's wrong. I have never seen a situation like this and see no hope in it improving anytime soon. I was really looking forward to going to the SEC tourney this year and I've been going longer than some on here have been alive. This is one year I wished I didn't have tickets. I expect attendance to be pretty low. The tourney is always mostly orange but I think many of those will stay home this year. I will be there pulling for the team but it appears that most fans care more about the program than the players do.

I usually don't listen to Dearstone's show in the morning, but had to tune in today on the drive in to the office and could not believe how he was throwing the players under the bus left and right, and defending Holly with almost every sentence. Same for Jeff and Heather. They are putting it 100% on the players, and wow do they hate Deshields...wow.

Maybe everyone else already knows all this, but this is the first I've listened to them this year after a loss.

has been somewhere between mediocre and bad all year, you are right. But nobody on the team has DD's talent. You need her to play well AND be a positive force on the team--and she's been the opposite from the first game. She chronically dour--or seems so. Don't know why--maturity issue, maybe. Something is off-kilter.

In strictly practical terms, and coaching aside (for a moment), we have a bunch of bad shooters. Fans talk about all our All American prospects. Let's face it--they were all overrated. We are an offensively challenged team. Cooper can take the rock to the basket but has an old-fashioned push shot that's not effective--and so does Reynolds. Russell is Ok but hardly the caliber of the country's no. 1 prospect--too old-school deliberate. Neither she nor Graves, who deserves better than this given her admirable work ethic for four years, can be called a true scorer--not at all. They are big and can each score 10 a game, and rebound, but they can't--and don't--win games for us. Nared has potential but has struggled this year too, like everybody. As bad as our offense is, as much as I complain about our system, whatever it is, our players miss a TON of open shots. They just miss. You can't win games if you can't shoot the basketball. Last year Burdick and Harrison and Massenale made shots. This group could not get the ball in the ocean if they were standing in the surf.

This is true.... My daughter went to the lady vol camp and deshields seemed very distant from the rest of the team.

Holly is a vol..... She wouldn't want to hurt her rep or the universities

Unlikely she transfers and loses another year of eligibiity; if she has aspirations of a pro-career sitting out another year would not help; she could leave school and play in Europe but I am betting that she stays.

what have you seen to make anyone think she can even play well enough to play in Europe, much less the wnba. :loco: she has some talent, that's is obvious, but has not shown it most of the time. maybe with some decent coaching she can improve. who knows.

If there are players who are planning on leaving, they should feign injuries and sit out the reaming games so those players who are committed to playing next year can get as much game time as possible.

:lolabove:

Truthly name me one player on the team that seems to be playing like they are committed. This staff has lost this entire team. Holly is coaching the Titanic of basketball. It has hit the iceberg and has sunk. Based upon your ideaology, from what I saw on the floor last night, we would have to play the remaining game with maybe two or three players. Where would the players come from to fill out next year's lineup and bench, pixie dust?

"Doc" can be out there sometimes ... I see this in all media's. No one will take Holly to task until she reaches her full spiral... Diamond was, is and if she leaves this program, all will see... the real deal....

It is the staff that has fallen short. I am a diamond fan because i know her history and have known of her since 11 years old... Put a stallions have to be trained differently than quarter-horses. You realease a QH and constantly push it into performance, the stallion, you reign in until you need its power.

This staff doesn't know how to reign their stallions. All it takes is one Alpha coach. it doesn't even have to be the head coach... one two-hour session with DD is all i would need to turn her around. Make it happen and i will make it happen. All DD needs is a new jockey. Not a new race, not a new track... just a rider that demands she honor their commands.

So we allow inept female coaches and other inept women employees to do whatever they want so the University can be held hostage? What about the other women that are excellent employees. This program is already damaged, period. How does bad coaching and lack of recruiting allow one to become part of a sexual harassment complaint? That makes Holly and the administration look worse if they (The administration or both) Holly cannot be fired because of potential blackmail? In other words allow the program to be destroyed because of one selfish employee that does not have respect for the LV program and most of all, herself. If what you say is true, we have a sad situation.

I know everyone is laying this carp on Holly... but man that DD just had a miserable look about her tonight. I think a roster shuffle may be what this team needs. Does not appear that Holly can motivate this bunch... sad to watch. Hell a high school team could hang with this team.

Definitely coaching is part of the problem, but to repeat that old saying, there's no "I" in team-- there seems to quite a few "I's" and not enough playing together as a unit.

Tennessee is 49-2 all-time against the Crimson Tide and are riding a 42-game win streak dating back to 1984. The Lady Vols are 18-0 on AlabamaÂ’s home floor. Not anymore

It is past time to find a coach that can coach the I's because many good I players have to be coached into joining the team or shown the door. One of the announcers made a valid point last night when he said, when well coached teams have players not playing as if they want to be there, coaches can tell them to play like team players or hit the road. He then added where would Holly get the players to replace the players leaving since th LV's do not have a 2016 recruiting class? In addition, Holly has been unable to recruit a top post player since Russell. Holly has painted herself in a corner, which looks like the LVs and she cannot recover from unless there are major changes. Again, if this was the collapse of a storied men's program, Holly would be coaching, or an assistant would be, out the schedule while searching through the want ads.

If DD is killing team chemistry, why is she playing? Holly's decision - nobody else makes that decision.

If your offense can only score 46 points against an 11 losses in the SEC Bama team that your team beat by 28 points at home earlier in the season; there may be a systemic offense issue. Especially since it is a recurring issue in most games in the second half of the season. The offense utilized is a Holly decision. Again - she has them in a double post with Russell and Graves in at the same time. Neither of which can shoot well outside of 5 feet from the basket. Wrong offense for the roster. They have next to no offense from the perimeter and other teams know it, so they zone and/or pack into the lane. This is not nuclear science except to Holly apparently. She should use a transition offense with a motion in the half court, along with full court pressure for 40 minutes on D. That fits her roster and will get more open looks for Dunbar on the outside, if she decides to play her. Period.

Which leads to player usage changes. Holly has proven particularly clueless on who to play when.

If there is poor communication internally on the team and in the media - that is a Holly issue as the HC is a leader in all respects when it come to communication.

If the team has quit on the HC, which it has and I did not need a inept Slovin to tell me that, then the HC obviously has issues. It's not all on the players. They obviously do not believe in the HC, staff, system - or all three. Whose job is it to make sure they do and give their best each and every game? Holly.

Holly is sounding exactly like Dooley in his final days, throwing everyone else under the bus and not taking any responsibility....

Deshields needs to leave, she is killing team chemistry, and plays only for herself.

You are relentless ....I have to give you that but if she leaves there is no scoring opportunities on this team against a zone defense with the offense ( or lack thereof ) that Holly runs.
The team quit last nite ...not DD the whole damn team. One could say this team quit in the middle of the season .....whose fault is that.My goodness fella take off those glasses that you have been wearing and focus on the real issue with this team because it goes across the entire spectrum of both players and coaches. That being the case whose fault is that .....the players or the Head Coach.I will leave it at that ,
hang up and listen for you relentless refrain on DD,

Now Charlie Creme says a 16-14 UT team will miss tournament.

Tennessee Lady Vols in jeopardy of missing NCAA tournament

I hope they do miss the tourney....they do not deserve to be there and they would be a complete embarrassment the way they and their coach has thrown in the towel.Fact is it would be a good idea to forfeit the game against Georgia and not attend the SEC tourney ,wrap up the season today and start over with a new coach because that is the only choice they have to change the environment.....there are no new players coming in and the roster is set unless one wants to release all current players and ask for some walkons.Heck maybe that is the best idea yet ....have a student tryout for both coaches and players....just like Coach Summitt did in 1977.

I think most of the team finally figured out that this crap Holly is feeding them will not work for wins so they are just going through the motions. I am sure every player on the team will be very happy when this season is over.

The negatives are enormous. First team to ever lose to Mississippi State. First team to lose to Bama since 1984. First team to lose more than 11 games in a season. First team to have a under .500 record in the SEC. May be the first team to not make the NCAA tourney and will certainly be the lowest seeded team if they do. The negatives keep coming with every game.

Not a smart thing to say.... but then again, Holly always has said the incorrect thing to deflect away from herself

I did look like they quit. If she said anything else we would be saying that she is in denial.

I love the fact that half of the fans say that it is the coaches and the other half blame the players. They allL suck right now !!!
