Conference championships simply aren't that big a deal. It's not like most leagues are stacked with really good teams--they aren't. Look at the SEC: you'd think it would be stout given that the SEC is stout in just about every sport, but basketball is the exception. And appearing in the NCAA tournament is also no major achievement. Hell, the Vols made it to the Sweet 16 almost every year for 25+ years without breaking a sweat. The Sweet 16 game is really when the season began.

The SEC Is a tough league physically and defensively no matter how one tries to slice it....I'd say it's pretty tough to win the SEC, as well as the tournament. It used to hold more weight back when there were TWO FF mainstays from the SEC...us and LSU. While USC is at the top right now, I'd love for us to join them.

Hey! I'm not going back and forth on anything (whatever). Dawn has proven she can build up a team. She has yet to prove she can consistently take that team to the Final Four and win.

Neither statement has a thing to do with UT, Holly, or the price of tea in China. Don't be so sensitive and/or paranoid. No way I was taking any shots at Dawn.

Hello all. I am a long time reader but 1st time poster. THIS post is just laughable. How did the conversation with cocky (who I don't know) get to living in the shadow of Clemson? That makes absolutely no sense. & now some of you vol fans are now saying SEC championships don't matter? How ridiculous a statement is that!

I was born & raised in SC but when it came to women's bball I ALWAYS loved the lady vols. Pat was the woman & her teams always played hard. I know that many of you have been spoiled with winning 17+ SEC tournament titles but please don't claim that they don't matter, especially for us up-and-comers who are just now enjoying some conference success. Whether some of you are willing to admit it or not Dawn Staley has risen to the top of the SEC & unless there is major injury next season she & the Lady G's will likely sweep the conference again.

Don't you all realize that this woman has won 30+ games the past 2 years with average guards & great post play? Other than Tiffany Mitchell, who wasn't even a McDonald's AA out of high school, what other guard could she turn to that could create their own shot or for someone else? It never happened. Imagine what Dawn could do with that lady vol roster. 7 McDonald's AA's? Crazy. If Dawn had a guard/small forward like Deshields our offense would've been so much better. If she could help turn Tiffany Mitchell into a 2 time SEC player of the year she will do even more for better ranked players.

'Some' of you should really be careful about how you criticize a woman who took a SC program from doormats to a top 5 team in just 8 years. I follow both programs (lady vols/lady gamecocks) & I appreciate the competitive nature for wanting to be top dogs in the conference.

You can tell it's offseason! In one thread we have two South Carolina fans taking shots at our program and in another thread there's about 73852869 UCONN posters jumping down our throat! I love visitors but d**n....some of these people are no older than 20 post and have already worn out their welcome!

I've been nothing but respectful to this board by the way.. I've probably said nothing negative about the LVs here at all.. I usually just post to correct incorrect information about the Gamecocks.

But I will cease and desist if my presence here irritates the majority! This is your board after all. :)

Ditto.. I couldn't care less. The only reason I joined in the first place, was to hopefully hear about WCBB from a team and fanbase who's been there before. But, I don't feel like I'm gaining anything TBH.

That's a shame armchair. You, govermentmule & teacherdean are three posters that I've come to like & who actually have meaningful things to say. I wasn't trying to come off as an as*hole, was just defending my coach just as you all defend your lady vols. I'm not young nor immature. Have a blessed night
