Holy Crap -- basketball penalties

I really don't care whom we hire as coach. I certainly don't detest Pearl; I thought he did a great job last year and said so many times. But this is unacceptable.

I'm disgusted at what's happened to my alma mater's athletic department. Violations in basketball; still waiting on the other shoe to drop in football. It's time to clean house.

Give Pat a baseball bat?:pat:

You people are blind!,These self imposed sanctions are like air bags, trying to soften the blow. To think that UT is fining him millions of dollars, not allowing recruiting.. etc etc because of EXCESSIVE TEXTING then you are blind. Something big happened and it'll eventually come out... Sad day for UT sports.

U guys that are sayin Fire Pearl are not thinking clearly. He would b hired in two seconds flat. We need to stand with him as true Vol fans. He told a lie but repented and told the truth without being caught. If my kid does that, the punishment is far less bc he admitted his mistake without me catching him. I am gonna use this as a lesson for my sons on how to do the right thing, whether u got scared and lied or not.

He might hav been protecting his asst's by lying, we don't know. Still wrong but at least he decided to be a man about it. And these punishments are harder than the NCAA would give IMO. Plus a few schollies maybe.

I am mad that it happened but I can let it go. I am not gonna let a 5 yr relationship go over one lie. He obviously cares about UT or he would have excepted the Memphis buyout last year. Let's move on Vol fans, Go VOLS!

That post is awesome on so, so many levels....it may be a top 10 for the day.

People seem to think that Hamilton called Pearl into his office and read this punishment off to him like a schoolmaster. But this is what Hamilton and Pearl agreed to, together, in an effort to stave off something even worse. Whatever it is, Pearl willingly gave up a million and a half dollars just for a shot at mitigating it. No muy bueno.

Y no me gusto.

Sometimes the role of UT-Knoxville alumnus puts you in conflict with the role as Tennessee sports fan, and this is decidedly one of those times. I really could not give a crap what the effects would be on the field and court; I want this shat cleaned up.

Unfortunately there's nobody in the entire UT system with the authority and stature to do a damn thing about it.

Help me out here. Jimmy Cheek doesn't have that authority?

I saw a few posts about anti-Semitism. For those of you who don't know what that means, it it when you disparage or hate a person simply because he is Semitistic.

I kid.

I've been Jewish all my life. :shades: I've been a Vol since 17 years of age. It can truthfully be said that I know a lot about each.

There exists a thin undercurrent of anti-Semitism about Pearl being a Jew and that undercurrent is energized more than usual because he talks about it, his adherence to the principles of Judaism.

The same kind of undercurrent can be observed - whites who think of black players in less favorably humane terms than themselves. The same could be said about many blacks who think of white players in less favorably humane terms than themselves. And on and on and on.

What I can say is these discriminations absolutely exist, their volume is muted, more private than public but they are still there. I suggest they always will be.

You and I are going to hear things said, in whispers, among "friends" "I told you you can't trust a Jew" and several variations of this theme. Just move on. Things will quiet down in time and the undercurrent will slow to its normal pace.

For what it's worth, in a totally bassackward way, that dumb Jew Pearl did us a favor. His actions remind us that things aren't perfect among men and women and a reality check from time to time can be a positive thing.

Now, if you don't mind, I will stand down from the binah, walk slowly away from this post (since Jews can't run worth a sh** anyway), put on my horned skullcap and devour the next roasted pig I see.

:salute:

well atleast pearl admitted he was wrong and ut put self imposed sanctions just like usc west basketball team did so it would be wrong to get ncaa sanctions.i would bet my life that every team in country makes more calls than they supposed they just havent been reported, plus i heard it was the josh selby deal plus ncaa was watching uk and kansas too.and calipari is making too many calls plus he is more likely paying all those top 20 recruits, with help from boosters i cant wait till uk gets nailed for excessive calls and improper benefits, cause very few of those guys were planing on playing at uk ,but cal with his almost 5million has paid well but uk is between the hammer (ncaa) amd the anvil(calipari) and they will be smashed sooner or later.its like enos kanter who cal swore he never got paid for playing professionally in europe until they found where he was paid since he was 14 and his family was bought a house so kanter wont be playing, plus ut lost a scolly before cause of some players did not graduate a rule which came in effect a few years ago,so why has ky not lost scolerships for all the players who didnt graduate because calipari kicked several off to make room for new recruits who most went to nba after one year.its a farce the way the ncaa lets some scools get by then go after other teams .

If HAmilton did know about this and let Pearl get way with it, then yes I do think we should fire him.

I don't like HAmilton, I think he is more worried about money than UT.

I do give him credit for the Dooley hire. But he is responsible for the Kiffin debacle with such an easy buyout clause and finding the nutcase to coach us in the first place. I think he got lucky with Dooley, nothing else.

While Pearl has done some good things for UT, that does NOT mean that I'll condone him for this. This will set our basketball team back and that is NOT good. It begs the question, was Pearl a good hire or not?

Maybe revenue on sports has gone up for UT, but that is because he is raising ticket prices for students and making the Tennessee Terace, while that gives more money in the long run it also reduces the amount of butts in seats at NEyland Stadium. You call that good?

Good?? Our ticket prices are almost the same as the national average. It's not like they are the highest in the nation. And this may come as a suprise, but as the years go on they will continue to increase, just like food, just like minimum wage, just like everything in history. I'm sure alot of people here can remember when cokes were an nickel and hamburgers were a quarter, but it's just the way it is.

Baseball is irrelevant when it comes to money in the AD. Raleigh should be let go, but Mh shouldn't lose his job because we can't be in the top 10 in every sport in college sports. If you are gonna' say Fire MH cause of BB then I'm gonna say keep him because of men's swimming! Or keep him because of our golf program.
:hi:
