Holy Crap -- basketball penalties

Pearl and staff made "Less than 100 impermissive phone calls in a two year period"

Connecticut had over 1,565 impermissive texts and phone calls from 2006 to 2008!

Tennesee's "violations" pale in comparison!

The self-imposed recruiting limitations could seriously hamstring UT.

Soooo, why did Hammy (et.al.) decide to lay the wood to Pearl....if he could have gone easier and then take his chances with the NCAA?

Seems the BB program was indeed Hammied.

Basketball recruiting is fraught with unscrupulous AAU coaches and shoe manufacturers who dictate where top-level players go to college - see Selby. The NCAA is a joke.

Out of curiosity, I looked into this. It doesn't actually specify whether all of these were illegal contact.

The UConn basketball staff was in constant contact with Nochimson during a nearly two-year period up to and after Miles’ recruitment. Five different UConn coaches traded at least 1,565 phone and text communications with Nochimson, including 16 from head coach Jim Calhoun. Yahoo! Sports obtained the records through the Freedom of Information Act. The documents were requested in October and received two weeks ago. Many of UConn’s communications with Nochimson were clustered with calls and texts to Miles or his inner circle.

pearl and staff made a few extra calls.it sucks but pearl did step up a little late and admitted it.and put self imposed sanctions.including a one and a half million paycut.calipari would have quit cause only way he gives up money is to help pay his top twenty recruits or to buy their books or to pay for someone to take players test ala vargas act or sat .and i would bet ever coach makes extra calls.you think calipari made more than the alloted calls he was allowed in his short time he had before nsd.and josh pastner had very little time but landed a top five class while memphis was on probation.pearl made extra calls and lied at first but i believe he is still the most honest coach in sec and all the big conferences. because they all do it .just a rival of pearls like calipari or pastner or a coach who is recruiting against pearl for thomas or the guy from mississippi or another.REMEMBER PEARL GAVE BACK 1.5 MILLION FOR A MISTAKE WHEN OTHERS WOULD HAVE gave it to get adonis and cal would have paid gilchrest and others

It's funny. I don't recall Calhoun lying to the NCAA investigators to try to cover up their violations.

The amazing thing here is that so few of you seem to be grasping the fact that, as it stand right now, the excessive contact with recruits isn't what is going to come back to bite UT. It's Pearl's stupidity in lying to the NCAA investigators that is going to cause UT's program to be burned at the stake. I also seriously doubt that the excessive phone calls will be the only violations that the NCAA finds.

 Well, that is quite a bit of $'s that the AD doesn't have to pay now. Just thinking outloud lol.
