There seems to be one item in the report that most folks either didn't see, or are simply ignoring. Pearl didn't have a sudden bout of conscience and come forward immediately to admit he had lied earlier. It took him 3 WEEKS to come and admit he'd lied before.

Another poster mentioned that he may have only admitted the truth when he recognized he was about to be caught; and whether that poster realized it or not, he may have been closer to the truth than he knows.

Hamilton had this to say:

"I hope part of what you get out of this today is this is a person that stood up and did the right thing in the end by coming back forward and saying, 'I want to correct this.'

What he also said was this:

Hamilton said Friday that Pearl provided the information while being interviewed in June about allegations of excessive phone calls made to recruits. Pearl notified officials three weeks later that he had provided the NCAA incorrect information.

I'm not sure if MH noticed, but that sounds an awful lot like talking out both sides of your mouth. If you were truly upset about lying, and were seeking only to do the right thing and rectify that situation, why did it take 3 weeks to do it?

Too bad they don't hand out rings for that... Eddie still sports a pair. Besides, unless I'm mistaken, I think Eddie and the rest of the Munsters won the last game between UT and UF by 13.

come on troll , eddie has a losing record against BP and Im sure you would give your right nut to have him at fla. eddie might have 2 rings but since he lost that group what has he done ? nothing.BP took less talent and beat that NC team.

wow, had my nose in a book studying all day and looked up to find this. its strange that pearl would have cheated with the way he's presented himself in the past, its stranger that he admitted it if he didn't have too. not right to drag his assistants into this just to relieve his conscious(if that's what really happened) i say wait and see what the ncaa does. if its best for us to get rid of him to curry favor with the ncaa, then we should. if not, we should keep him and let him redeem himself......on a good note it seems football is off the hook!!! GBO

Weld his assistants were the main ones doing it, in fact I am almost certain Bruce Pearl knew about but never used the burner phones.

We took the hit today...it is a big hit. Better news from here on out NCAA wise. Especially when you start to see how many schools have been "excessively contacting" recruits.

UConn has much more serious violations than ours,
UNC as well.

The phone contact issue? Who was calling and texting Selby? He may go straight to the NBA if he cannot get into a school because of NCAA shenanigans.

Weld it was just funny to hear how hard he praised Hamilton. Hamilton is definitely taking some heat for this, but I think he has handled it well.

Football rules UT. There was a Fulmer camp who were mad at Hamilton and want him gone (and some are retarded enough to want Phil as AD). There was a group after Kiffin who were angry at Hamilton.

He brought in the best basketball coach in the history of our program, and when Bruce screwed up, Mike had the counsel he needed to hammer him hard enough to save the school. Not a bad job IMO.

Word, lyls... This whole debacle will affect the program for years to come. I'm anxious to see how the next week plays out. I think this is far from over and if changes need to be made, so be it...

At least we have some talent coming in this year. Adonis and others will avoid this plague almost assuredly. Bruce and the assistants not having the ability to recruit off campus is the bombshell of this unfortunate development...

i hear you, will take a wait and see approach. realize not all of this was in MH control. i am very disappointed in Pearl but nobody died and it would be great to see him redeem himself.

U guys that are sayin Fire Pearl are not thinking clearly. He would b hired in two seconds flat. We need to stand with him as true Vol fans. He told a lie but repented and told the truth without being caught. If my kid does that, the punishment is far less bc he admitted his mistake without me catching him. I am gonna use this as a lesson for my sons on how to do the right thing, whether u got scared and lied or not.

He might hav been protecting his asst's by lying, we don't know. Still wrong but at least he decided to be a man about it. And these punishments are harder than the NCAA would give IMO. Plus a few schollies maybe.

I am mad that it happened but I can let it go. I am not gonna let a 5 yr relationship go over one lie. He obviously cares about UT or he would have excepted the Memphis buyout last year. Let's move on Vol fans, Go VOLS!
