Home run - Terrible hire

If any of the #4 guys were hired, I would consider being a silent fan. I would still love my Vols, but the horrible seasons with those guys would be too much to take.

Keeping this realistic...

1. Gruden
2. Strong
3. Fedora (although this is more of a 2b than a solid 3)
4. Petrino/Smart

#1- 'Nuff said.

#2- Solid recruiter, so I think he would upgrade the talent level on the team. Coaching may be suspect, but those same charges have been levied at Les Miles in the past. I think most any Vol fan would take Les Miles.

#3- A better coach and recruiter than he's getting credit for. Say what you want about Temple, but he either brought in talent there far above anything the Owls had in the past, or he coached the hell out of the players he did get there. Or maybe both.

#4- I can't believe I'm about to type this, but when it gets this far down the list, every candidate is going to have warts and blemishes. He would need strong "encouragement" to bring in a young, up-and-comer that could take over the helm in 3-4 years....

If I'm Dave Hart, he's honestly in my top 6-7...and it's absolutely a hard pill to swallow.

Home-run? Woooah there....pump the brakes. It would be a solid hire but under no circumstances would it be considered a home-run.

A home-run hire would unite the fanbase and create an excitement that hasn't existed in quite some time but hiring Franklin would only further divide the fanbase, IMO...at least until we began playing again.

He might "win the press conference" and excite a few fans but you're kidding yourself if you think he'd fit the criteria of a "home-run" like Stoops or Gruden.

I'm truly amazed why anyone would consider Jimbo Fisher a good hire much less a home run. He'll be fired by FSU in not to many more years. 5 max

I agree, I think we are making a HUGE mistake if we don't put Petrino in the top 5 of our realistic lists.

He can't win the ACC with the most talent of any team in the ACC by a very large margin. Gets dominated by any descent team he faces and always loses to at least one horrible ACC team per year just like he did this year to NC State.
You busted on Butch Jones for losing to a Dooley coached UT team when UT most definitely had the more talented team at pretty much every position yet praise Jimbo Fisher who lost to the same NC State team Dooley's UT team BLEW OUT!
