Homelessness, begging, and what to do about it

I have some rules I follow. Most of it is to avoid violence. Never give to one homeless person if there are multiple around, and never give on the train or bus or otherwise confined space. There can be a lot of tension and the only two fights I have seen up close with homeless have been in those situations, so I try to avoid. Also learn to recognize the pushers, again it's not just drugs, and avoid giving with them around.

But even working in midtown atlanta and walking past homeless at least once a day I rarely get asked, so it's not much of a drain as some would assume.

If there is more than one around I throw a couple sawbucks in the middle of them and yell 2 more to the one that comes out with both.

He is just trolling or is this real?

Why are you such a jerk? You did not use to be this way....

Literally there is no reason for it.

I'm talking about how to combat homelessness- and btw this is something I have already tested.
Yes, I have employed people that were homeless and they are now no longer homeless. So laugh all the hell you want..

All you want to talk about it Reagan and who was responsible for what, THAT NOT THE POINT that Lawgator was bringing up. You don't want entertain what solution I have, then WHY waste time demeaning someone on the one issue you care to elaborate on?? So many of you people do that stupid crap all day.

Stop wasting your life on such things it's too damn short...

You should look into O’Connor v Donaldson 1975 and the mental health act under Kennedy. Those were the major reasons (granted I support both).

What specific 1981 bill are you talking about from Reagan?

I didn’t mention your “solution” for obvious reasons. It’s not even worthy of discussion

No reason for this...
WHY??

How can you sit here and just crap on peoples opinions about how to improve a big problem?
And yes I am responding to it, because you do this ALL THE TIME. For no reason.

I don't know you. Just like I don't know half the millions of people that are homeless. That doesn't mean I wouldn't care if you were out on the streets, trying to survive. I would be proactive about helping you if were trying to get out of the bad spot.

You do "you" man. But please just don't respond to anything I write if you're just going to continue with the unnecessary attacks.

Just about everyone is hiring, heck fast food places are paying upwards of $15 hr so what makes you think the homeless would take farm labor jobs?

Gives them exercise and a sense of accomplishment.
Oh you mean like working out in nature??.
Perhaps, work them hard and have incentives for them to elevate their life?

So why did you laugh at my recommendation to only GENERICALLY offer the same thing?

I feel you wasted a lot of your time in this response. The Reagan point is important because it’s a common myth. Similar to the myth that Americans were better off in decade x than today.

And no, I don’t believe a government sponsored farming program will make any significant impact on the number of homeless on the streets. We all know how that ended up for Lenny (hope I didn’t ruin the book for you).

You need to learn how to distinguish between smartass and serious.

I answered your other question is a previous post.

Because they would come with a place to stay (temporary).
That's why I mentioned LAND. And at worst they stay farmers and just live that simple existence while not being a dog on the street. Many slaves stayed on plantation after slavery ended because they still had some place to live and eat and work...all right there.

The point you are missing is most of them do not want to work. There are 1000s of open farm laborer jobs that come with housing, can't fill them.

Now this is a more respectable response.

You didn't ruin anything for me. Your opinion is yours, and I won't crap on it despite my own experiences...

It was humor. It was even absurd humor.

How can you not comprehend?

There is that... People just not wanting to work.
- and this begins to fall in the category of "necessary evil". Speaking for myself...I see thousands of homeless everyday in LA area. It's a grim reminder that people just like myself can fall on hard times quick...It gives me more motivation. I don;t need anymore, but I do believe it is allowed in some cities as a mechanism to remind people to shut up and work. Or there is hiring more security to get them off the streets...

And here in California, a great deal of those positions are filled with illegals- the farming with housing.

So I am proposing MORE farms be made, and even have a rotation systems where people can farm in other areas of the country for different seasons.
I'm a believer that humans need to have a more nomadic lifestyle by design. At least have the option of being to move around for work.
More projects that make America self sustaining...
We need to stop giving all our damn money away to other economies...

So you're proposing something like collective farms where people are sent to labor in exchange for food and a bed?

I think this has been tried somewhere else.

What would be your solution? Specifically. Because you are right. Exercise and sense of accomplishment changes a person's life...

Food, bed, and REHAB, and career path options if they want that.
But honestly the working and being able to migrate and have a place to work, eat, sleep remedy many of the issues I believe.

For the mentally ill, it would also help keep them busy at low risk. You would also need security to watch them (jobs).

I told my own father that it was okay for him to pass on, as he was in pain dying of cancer.

Hows that for you?

Weird timing. Any other strange traumatic events you’d like to add to the conversation for no apparent reason?
